Too many blocks in the perimeter, not enough blocks in the paint...

I think there are too many blocks in the perimeter in 2k13, probably due to the slower shot releases and some kind of over-powered jumping animations, however in the paint I feel just the opposite, there are not enough blocks down there, especially when some guards slash to the rim...

    What do you guys think?

Blocking in 2k13 is actually better than in 2k12 IMO, that's for sure, but it is far from perfect in my view as it is not properly balanced outside (in the real NBA there are not so many blocks) and inside (tons of blocks usually in the real world).

    Cheers! ;-)

So no one see this as something to be better balanced... Really?

I hope devs will take it into account for the patch.

    Cheers! ;-)

and me as well. shot releases are too slow. players in the paint are too unaffected by defense, and often players move out of the way while a player is driving instead of giving the driver contact lol

im still fine tuning my slider set, but right now im getting good results with block 100, vert 20, contest 15

Yep. Interior shot-blockers should be feared, but they aren't because so many shots magically avoid them.

Agree with this to an extent. Dunk animations are almost impossible to block, even with perfect timing and a premier shot blocker. Layups are the only thing you can realistically block, but half the time you get pushed out of the way by mid-air collisions and other times your guy magically jumps half as high as he normally does. Or even worse, you time it perfectly and the ball literally just goes through your arm, which happens to me way too often for my liking. Most of my blocks in the paint are chase down blocks or help defense blocks on someone caught in a long layup animation.

As for jump shots, if the player you use has high defensive awareness and on-ball defense, you can literally get some blocks by just holding LT (intense D) while in the guy's face. Your guy will just automatically jump sometimes and get it.

This is funny because this is almost the opposite of real life. People rarely get blocked on jump shots, whereas you can't just recklessly go up for dunks and layups in a crowded paint. My problem with the game is that I don't notice THAT much of a difference when i use elite shot blockers as opposed to average players with speed and quickness. I get as many blocks with shooting guards than Dwight, Mcgee, Ibaka, etc just because many times the SGs are fast enough and jump just high enough to get blocks. If you try to get blocks in the paint, even with Ibaka, you'll find it tough because of the animations and the way your guy behaves sometimes on a block attempt.

That is because you have auto shot contest set to Intense D in the controller's configuration menu.

the problem is that the the block slider governs both hand tracking and vertical to a degree. so by default hum controled defenders act like they have no hand eye coordination, raising blocking slightly, boosts the vert considerably and hand tracking minimally, but maxing the blocking and lowering the vert seems to be getting me great results sans the "hand -through-ball" situations.

Yeah, I've noticed this too. I can get like 3-4 blocks with Westbrook and Sefolosha due to their athleticism and defensive ratings, but I am LUCKY to get one block with Serge Ibaka or Greg Oden (yes, Greg Oden).

Yeah, blocking is horrible in 2k13. Can't ever get them when I time it absolutely perfectly. Must be worked on extensively for 2k14, seriously. The game would be 10x more fun if you could actually time shots perfectly and get the block with premier defenders, instead of just getting dunked on with no power to change the outcome of the play.

You know that quick flick shot u shoot with when the clock is running down? it needs to be added when u have a defender closing in on you and u release it early..

The dunking animations shouldn't be negating the contact/collision physics in the game like they are this year. When someones dunking, the defender literally gets moved/pushed out of the way or the ball goes through the defenders hand. Inside the paint the contact/collision physics needs to work much better also on post moves and combo layup moves in general where there is no contact with the defender.
