I have to play more games but I'll speak up with my first impression since I don't expect it'll be one you hear a lot of. IMO, the adjustment was over-done and wasn't really needed in the first place.
First, for a 48-minute game it's pretty onerous to basically not be able to hit the steal button at all. I don't use it a lot but it seems like it may as well be removed altogether if its most likely function is to produce fouls.
Second, I feel like the adjustment puts the game more on rails, so to speak, and gives the user less freedom and less control. I enjoyed the challenge of running an offense despite heavy ball pressure. I enjoyed baiting steal spammers and then crossing them over and beating them to the basket. Maybe I was the only one.
I feel like it's a change that caters to a specific subset of (very vocal) players who want to play a slower-paced game but who are unwilling or unable to learn the controls and the game well enough to counter the high-pressure, over-aggressive tactics they encounter online.
Instead of using the tools already in the game to defeat these tactics -- quick plays, the protect ball stance, the dribble controls, total control passing, etc., instead of making an appropriate adjustment to their own tactics, these players essentially want the game to protect ball for them while they do what they please.
I think it's an unfortunate reaction to a problem that didn't exist, and a devolution of the game (which was and still is the best sports game ever made, just for the record).
