Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
I like what you said BUT there are people like me that watch basketball and play 2kNba every year. And your right it is unrealistic BUT there are people like me that don't really play online and just Career and if I do play online it's with friends. My point is that Leave it post patch for ONLINE and ONLINE only not for career I mean come on I don't even spam just because a bunch of other people do doesn't mean you should punish the rest.Comment

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
The problem i see here is many will say it stops online spamming of the steal button followed by concluding the foul rate must be ok because it fixes this one problem. A very flawed way of thinking.
Going from one extreme to the next isn't the way to solve the problem. 2k patch has made pickpocket, active hands useless which is proof they created another problem.
As i stated before, a balance needs to be found. 2k should turn down the foul rate and give the player reaching a big penalty on defense meaning the ball handler can easily drive pass any defender who is spamming the steal.
It creates risk reward for both side.Comment

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
i really think that there needs to be a distinction between online play and mycareer w/this poll.
it's not even that i want to steal the ball a ton but the cpu is just swatting at everything and getting into the penalty within the first couple of minutes of the 1st quarter. that's not very fun or realistic. also, if you don't have a super high steal rating forget about even pressing that button in mycareer, instafoul. even with a 99 rating you're still going to get 45 foul calls out of 50 grab attempts. i can't tell if it's just the steal animation (sometimes it's an ugly full body swipe when you should just be poking the ball) or what, but i'm not looking for 2k12 ease where i was getting 10+ steals a game.|| rv motion graphics. ||Comment

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
They don't call reach in fouls on the perimeter because players don't REACH in real life like these sorry kids that play this game.. I use to play organized ball and coaching basketball 101 is "Play defense with you feet , Not with your hands". I seriously believe a lot of people that play this game have never played real ball in there lives to even complain about reach in fouls. #Sadness.THANK YOU.
You should have to pick your spots very carefully to get a rip, these clowns online think you should be able to just swipe away with no consequence.
If the reaches get toned down again, we'll know 2K has lost sight of what has made their franchise great: real basketball.Currently Playing:

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
While I believe something needed to be done to lessen the attempts made to steal, I feel the current approach was not the right one.
I would have liked the same solution you made for the blocking attempts that was made in 2k11; make it so that the button was "dead" for a bit after the initial attempt.
If for some reason this was not available, then what was done to increase frequency is an acceptable alternative - I just feel it is much more draconian in the enforcement area.
Trouble is: in a typical 2k13 game, at least offline, there is no losing control of the ball as a result of overdribbling... I can not remember a 2k game in 4 years where a player lost control due to overdribbling.Last edited by Taer; 12-01-2012, 11:32 AM.Comment

Reaching, lol come on. How many times you see a player reaching on the perimeter per game?Comment

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
Yes lower the stupid reach in fouls its pathetic. If im 99 steal rating and have active hands i get called for a reach in when i only swipe ONCE. its stupid because i picked up 2 quick fouls in the 1st quarter only reaching in ONCE each foul. Its ridiculous. Change it back.Comment

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
I like it the way it is now but it could be lowered JUST A LITTLE. Always seems like whenever 2k makes a change, they go from one extreme to the other. Before reach in fouls weren't be called at all and now they are being called every swipe. It does make the game flow a little more realistically if you aren't reaching so i see what they were trying to do. Since the patch I haven't even been trying to get steals because they will be called fouls.
I also don't see the point of doing this if 2K was going to add the bump feature where it makes the ball handler switch hands or focus on his dribble. YOu can't do that anymore because of foul calls.
I don't see why they are putting so much emphasis on this when there are other, more important things(contact on dunks, 3 point shooting) that still need to be addressed.Comment

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
Reach in fouls aren't called as much in the NBA because they are not steal spamming like people do in online games. Its fine the way it is. Stop reaching every possession down the court, they barely reach in the NBA.It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.Comment

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
It's fine. It baffles me when I play quick match team up and my teammates spam steal all the time. They typically foul out two players in one game. I don't get it but I like that they are penalized for trying to cheese.Comment

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
I made an account with OS just to vote on this issue, only to find that I am not able to vote for a week. Of course.
So... I have played about 14 My Career games (10 minute quarters) since downloading the patch, and it has changed the games markedly. Here's what I've noticed:
I play only My Career (thus I can't speak to the patch's impact on other game modes), but the patch has definitely increased reach-in fouls to a ridiculous level in My Career games. I will admit that before the patch it was easy to rack up steals without getting a foul call (I think my PG was averaging about 11 per game between on-ball steals and intercepting passes while only getting 1-3 fouls/game), so a patch WAS necessary.
Despite that, I think the patch has made it nearly impossible to perform an on ball steal since the patch (my PG is averaging about 3 steals per game since the patch, but I have had about 4 on ball steals over the past 12 games - most come from intercepting/tipping passes). At the same time, I will be battling ANY urge to press the steal button because I know it will result in a reach in foul (which then leads to foul trouble).
My PG has his Steal rating maxed out to 99 and I have maxed out his Pick Pocket signature skill, so I would at least expect a few loose balls being poked out, if not outright steal animations, when I play defense. As with other commenters, I have noticed that about 90% of my on ball steal attempts result in a reach-in. Those that do not result in a foul are usually unsuccessful or will result in a loose ball (that is usually recovered by the opposing team, but that's another post/gripe entirely). I have seen a grand total of TWO on ball steal animations that result in a steal for the defender in the 14 games I have played - and one was done on my PG by a defending SF when I was dribbling away from the SF (that reach around steal from behind animation).
(As as an aside - I noticed that reach in fouls by all computer players have also increased. I see about 4-8 reach in calls total during a game post-patch, compared to almost none pre-patch. So that's nice!)
I do seem to have a better chance of performing an on ball steal (either a loose ball that I recover or an animation) when I attempt it against a C or PF, but even those result in a reach-in foul more often than not. I have a pretty decent understanding of defensive positioning as well as when/where to attempt a steal, so I usually refrain from spamming the steal button. I do get carried away occasionally, usually when trying to unsuccessfully steal the ball from a player that I know has a low steal rating, and that does (as it should) end up in a reach in foul.
Still, when I press the steal button ONE TIME after obtaining solid defensive position/timing, I expect my PG to make a play on the ball that doesn't result in a foul. I understand the intent of nerfing the steal button, especially since it WAS easy to exploit before the patch, but now it is useless. I'm not asking that we return to pre-patch levels, but toning down the reach in fouls would help me enjoy this game again. I must admit that I enjoy more an arcade-style game (I can't do a 360 between the legs dunk in real life, so this is about as close as I'll get), so the increased steals/dunks/3 pt shot successes are okay by me, but I understand that many 2k13 players are looking more of a simulation style game.
I think there's opportunities for both sides (arcade/simulation gamers) to get what they want in 2k13. A few other commenters have mentioned that 2K make it possible to have separate sliders for each game mode, and I would like to support this ideas. I do not understand WHY there cannot be sliders in My Career when there seem to be for other modes (not sure about Online, but I know that Association/Quick Games allow slider changes), so if someone could clear that up I'd appreciate it. At the very least I think it would bring a level of customization to My Career that it sorely needs.
Anyways... NBA 2K13 is a hell of a game, but I feel this aspect of the patch made My Career a lot less enjoyable for me. Let's tone down the reach in calls to something a little more realistic in My Career and I'll be a happy man.Comment
