Its like an rpg where you can randomly get critical hits or misses. While we have a ton of control over shooting and dribbling, passing is more like a Final Fantasy battle. The computer decides whether you pass it fast or slow, if your man bobbles the ball or not, whether he cuts randomly or not, or if you do a wraparound or pass the ball off a defender's back.

How can this get better? By giving us more manual passing options. If we have a smidgen of the number of options that shooting and dribbling get, that we be enough. The ability to control pass animation speed, overhead lobs, and wraparounds or straight passes would make passing more skill based and more engaging. Also the passing button is still random and the directional passing has gotten less accurate this year for whatever reason.

I feel this should be the main thing that this game should focus on improving. If it comes out next year and passing is still a game of chance, but dribbling and shooting get the usual amount of attention, that would make it three years in a row of sub-par passing.
I totally agree. Good post. And the bolded is the reason I'm going to continue to complain about the passes every chance I get. It's been 3 years in a row that the passing has terrible. 2k needs to focus on this aspect of the game ASAP!!!

It's not the passing that is fixed with the bounce pass. It actually the user error. The way your holding the left stick is what messing up the type pass made. Add in the fact that you are most likely looking from a bad angle when passing and you have your own disaster.

I play with panoramic cam. I cant complain I know most steal/turnovers are a result me trying to complete passes in traffic or me trying to lob it down court.

If you space out the court you are good and issue should go away.

        Huge improvement from last year
I don't remember 2k12 being that bad in passing and I played it a great amount, that or I just don't remember but 2k13's passing in the paint is terrible.
        Say "Oooooh."

Yeah I know I have been playing 2k since Live retired. I remember the cheesy full court Wade-to-LeBron type passes. But I'm talking about legit passing opportunities, not just me getting a rebound dribble two steps and then throw a long pass to the guy who's down the court over 4 or 5 defenders' heads.

They addressed one issue by just tweaking another, not a true answer.

Slow the game down and make smarter decisions

Don't blame 2k for you in ability to make a clean pass. The passing mechanics are fine, I love passing in this game. I"m 2 months into my rookie season average 8.0 assist. I only get turnovers when stupid A.I cuts to the basket a millisecond after I pass the ball smh. Or when the opposing team completely, gets better position on my teammates.

so you say "oh, passing mechanics are fine." but then you say that your teammate makes a stupid decision while passing him the ball and gives you a turn over.

passes for the most part are OKAY on this game. what i can't stand is how bounce passing takes 2 seconds and the defense always intercepts the ball. even throwing a simple bounce pass into the post like is basketball 101. you pump fake to draw your defender and then make a safe bounce pass into the post. instead, you pump fake and the defender creeps to the ball instead of LUNGING to the ball like he's supposed to, either way, when i make sure he's RIGHT on me i try and pass the ball and it hits the defender's feet? come on now...

also, lob passes are supposed to be LOBS, not chest passes. and not everyone can jump 4 feet in the air to intercept a lob.

lastly, if i was an NBA player and my teammate threw me a lob pass and i went up in the air and let the ball hit my hands or just go straight to the backboard and fell down looking like a moron, i'd probably be sent to the bench. or i'd end up on sports center's NOT top 10. this isn't supposed to happen MORE than throwing a nice alley oop, EVEN WITH alley ooper as a sig skill.
