Note how I bolded the "underrated defender" part. In what way is Kobe an underrated defender? He's living off of a defensive reputation from 5 years ago, he hasn't been a defensive force in years.

He can be a great on-ball defender when he wants to be, the problem with him is he likes to take plays off.

Re: Best Starting Five to Fit Your Style?

      My ideal team would be:

PG; a pass first guard who can play offball, is good defender and an above average perimeter shooter. Someone who can get you 11, 3 and 6 while being able to lockdown other point guards.

SG; number one option on offense, and number two option in the post. Pretty much someone in the mold of Kobe.

SF; a solid two way player who can shoot from outside, defend, an make the occasional cut to the basket. Someone who can defend a star player and put up 12 and 6.

PF; stretch 4 who is a good offensive rebounder when he doesnt have the ball. Someone who can get you 14,8 and 3 assists. And can also facilitate at the top of the key.

C; defensive anchor who is also the number one low post option. Will get you 22 and 12 with 2.5 blocks.

So yeah I have pretty much described Kobe, howard and a more perimeter oriented gasol at the 2,4 and 5.

Yeah I get what your saying. And he definately isn't underrated, nor is he a great defender. But he also isn't as bad as some like to make him out to be, especially as an on ball defender.

ranked 180th in spot up defense, and in the 60-80's for iso/pick n roll

But you cannot go off of that because we know Kobe relaxes on defense most of the time. I think a more accurate statistic would be looking at his defense in the last 4 minutes of a clutch game. Kobe is old, he has to pick his spots when he exerts himself.

Also, what website are you using for your defensive stats?

Re: Best Starting Five to Fit Your Style?

I like a 3pt/mid range game myself. I don't like to drive with my players unless they're Kobe or LeBron because most of the players can't finish at the rim with the slightest contact. My starting five would be:

                    1. Steph Curry - great 3pt shoter, has mid range
                    2. Klay Thompson - for me the best 3pt shoter in the game, has mid range, sometimes can finish at the rim if necessary
                    3. Chandler Parsons - good 3pt shooter (in the game), has ability to drive and finish at the rim
                    4. David West - with him I perform the best with the back to the basket, has a great mid range, and great post moves, easy to finish at the rim
                    5. DeMarcus Cousins - has some mid range game if you can time the shot right, monster on the boards, can finish while driving to the rim

With this lineup you can dominate easily, I could've picked a "douchy" lineup of CP3. Kobe, Durant, LBJ , Howard but where's the fun in that.

Maybe if you're not planning on keeping the team intact a few years down the road. You need to make sure that you have enough cap room to resign Kanter, Rubio, and Hayward in a year or two. Not sure what Gallinari's contract is though. Besides, some of that cap can go towards putting together a very, very good bench.

Re: Best Starting Five to Fit Your Style?

PG- A guy who can shoot and finish around the rim, needs to be a solid passer as well. So guys like Parker, Conley, and Kyrie are guys I would prefer.

SG- Needs to be able to create, I like having two ball handlers in the backcourt. Athletic, decent 3 point shot, and solid defense are needed as well. Manu, Iggy and Johnson are a couple examples of players Id want at SG.

SF-Pretty much same as the SG, but if I have the SG who can handle, I like having a SF who can score and defend(vice versa if I have ball handling SF like LBJ). Deng, George, Leonard, and Batum are a few examples for a SF Id want.

PF-Usually like having my PF being a scoring threat as well as solid defensively. Aldridge would be the best fit, since he has the solid post game, a jumper, and solid defense. KG and West would fit here as well.

C-Pretty much the same as PF, I like having two scoring options at C and PF. Duncan, Hibbert, Dwight, and Bogut would be Cs Id want. They wouldnt need a jumper, just need to be a threat inside in the post.

                          PG-Kyrie, Parker, Conley
                          SG-Manu,Iggy, Johnson
                          SF-Deng, Leonard, George, Batum
                          PF-Aldridge, KG, West
                          C- TD, Hibbert, Dwight, Bogut

*Bold would be my starting 5, Not that realistic, but I have options to change it up.

I'm obviously a Lakerfan, and has played most of my 2K basketball as the Lakers in PJax triangle offense. I'm most used to playing with Derek Fisher as my point guard, and as you know, he wasn't the main guy in initiating the Laker offense, and the triangle offense doesn't have a point guard in the traditional sense. I think that's the reason for why I'm still struggle with regards to being effective with the premier point guards in the game. So basically, I'm not looking for a traditional point guard. I want a guy who is very capable of scoring three pointers, and that is quick enough to stay in front of point guards at the defensive end. I have scored by far the most of my 2K points with Kobe Bryant, so he's an easy choice at the shooting guard. What I like from my small forwards is that they are very athletic, especially now that Kobe's athleticism is diminishing, and I like them to be very good defensively and good three point shooters. I like them to either driving to the basket with force, or spotting up for a three pointer, as I'm filling the middle game with baskets from Kobe. I like to have my power forward as my main low post guy, and I am very effective with Pau Gasol. I could of course gone for Tim Duncan here as well, but I don't see that as a realistic choice. Pau Gasol does what a power forward is meant to do, score in the paint in a variety of ways, rebound, and he is a good passer as well. As a center I like to have a guy who is capable of being a defensive anchor. Pau Gasol is certainly not the best defensive big man, so at center I need a guy who can make up for his errors. My center doesn't have to be good offensively, as I rarely run plays for my center, he is mostly a player who sets picks for me offensively. But I need him to anchor my defense, and be a good rebounder, and I like them to be over seven feet tall, which removes both Howard and Sanders from contention, Roy Hibbert is my man.

I would also like to run the triangle offense with this team, and with such good passers, and shooters around I feel that this would be a very effective team.
