Re: Having Trouble With Defending the Paint
To me it's just a constant battle... That you can't ever stop thinking... I feel I can stop anyone from driving or taking a shot if that's what I set to do... But thats part of the battle... It's a mind game you have to guess a bit on what ur opponent is trying to do and what u plan on giving up... Offense has the advantage but you still must play every possession don't get lazy...
I'm the style player that will allow you to take midrange shots..but in the start of a game I will go atleast the first 10 defensive possessions playing off allowing you to shoot and no room to drive, until my opposition can prove to hit his shots...
But if he can shoot 3s consistently I will take the 3 away while allowing an easy mid range cus asoon as you get by me I go straight to the paint in the spot he wants to contest a drive... A simple drive and step back will kill me all game but he has to prove to me he can beat me with midrange shots...
That's my basic game plan goin in even against a Kobe player who should be happy to settle with a mid shot...
Yes I change all depending on how my rival counters and of course this is simply just for ISO moments ppl who run plays and have good ball movement are a total different story..
Thankfully most quick matches are ISO Guys with lebrick lol go pelicans babyComment

Re: Having Trouble With Defending the Paint
I'm simply saying that's my base defense when starting a quick match in the first quarter obviously I change my defense according to how my opponent reacts.. I can explain everything I do that's just the basics of it... Trust me if you hit them ill take them away and you will have to counter... That's what makes the chess match and the game funComment

Re: Having Trouble With Defending the Paint
The game's design flaws really show up most in team up. Passing into the paint is too easy and offensive 3 seconds in the key isn't called enough. Most offensive possessions consist of big men camping under the basket for 3 to 5 seconds at a time while the perimeter players attack the basket.Originally posted by Dogslax41Most people that are asking for a simulation game don’t really want a simulation game because its too hard.Comment

Re: Having Trouble With Defending the Paint
Personally, I found the best way to contest shots in the paint is to hold the right stick towards the basket when they are shooting. My defensive effectiveness went up by a tons after using this technique.
Anticipation also helps too, so you know when to go for the strip, block, double team or etc
If someone does that, you get a free offensive rebound dudeLast edited by rrr; 06-09-2013, 04:59 AM.Comment

Re: Having Trouble With Defending the Paint
One issue with this conversation about "paint defense" is defining what people mean when they say "the paint."
If they're talking about the lane as a whole, playing defense there is no different than playing defense anywhere else -- stay in front of your man and try not to bite on pump fakes.
But when people say "they can't guard the paint" they are usually saying they can't guard players who are right underneath the basket.
The truth is, 90 percent of guarding that area is keeping offensive players out of it in the first place. If a 7-footer gets the ball inside the charge circle, that is as high-percentage a shot as you can get in basketball -- there's not much the defense can do at that point.
The way you as the user can help to keep players out of there is by playing good fundmental defense everywhere else and limiting help situations as much as possible. Whenever you get a help defense situation, that leaves someone uncovered and the game is programmed to make uncovered players cut to the paint.
Keep a man in front of the ball as much as possible and that will allow everyone else on the defense to keep their bodies between their man and the basket area.

I'm tired of guys saying stopping points in the paint. No its not. Watch some real NBA footage learn defense schemes. Stop being lazy on D, play angles, beat ball handler to the spot, use hands up instead of leaving your feet for a full contest with Y and stop playing so damn close. Learn to give the ballhandler the jumpshot. Everybody that plays 2K and cries PiP is broken they play tight man to man defense, if you're playing close on the ballhandler he's going to blow right by you every time. Sag off and give him the jumper.Add me om PSN for a good game of basketball!

Re: Having Trouble With Defending the Paint
You know what you're going to get going into those games why play? Stop the quick matches and play some real ballers on 12 Min Hof sim.
It's like if you're a guy that's interested in skinny woman and your friend says don't go to the bar down the street, because it's usually nothing but fat sloppy chicks in there. Knowing you don't like fat sloppy chicks, you still go that bar hoping that you find a skinny girl. When the bar up the street has skinny girls but you're just to hard headed to go there instead.
If people are going to still play quick match after all these years yall have no right to consistently complain. Yes you can point out game flaws but if the solution is to play someone sim from OS and you still play quick matches you should STFU and not complain about what you see. Feel me bro?Add me om PSN for a good game of basketball!

Same thing with fast food. Most people would rather buy it and eat it than buy fresh ingredients from a market and cook themselves.
It all has to do with accessibility and availability.Originally posted by Dogslax41Most people that are asking for a simulation game don’t really want a simulation game because its too hard.Comment

Re: Having Trouble With Defending the Paint
While I agree hof sim or custom sliders 12min quarters are the best...
I still think quick match is fun however you have to have a different mind set..
If I could I'd play all my games hof however I don't always have the time and quick match is what it is quick..
But to me defense is really no different you just have to accept the offense has an advantage and just make ur offensive possession count
But I dislike complaining about quick match simply cus you should know what you are asking for.. Don't expect sim play.. Expect cheese here and there... But I find most players on quick match are casual players and usually have only a few go to moves or plays...
I learn from this cus it basicly gives me practice on specific moves and how to defend them
Many times in quick match I will keep it close while learning how to stop their go to moves and allowing this for the first 3 quarters them shut it down in the 4th and win the game... It gives the opponent a false sense of confidence and usually won't pick up that you learnt how to stop themComment
