Re: High powered teams.
This is pretty much exploiting players and getting easy buckets.
For example: Playing against Miami Heat, they will always pass it to Ray Allen and run left to right, then shoot the three.
Or run into the paint with LeBron/Wade, spin move, pump fake, easy layup.Comment

Re: High powered teams.
NBA 2k is not 100% realistic, obviously there are some issues with the game. That is not the point. We are all on an even playing field, the issues affect both you and your opponent equally. The only difference from one play to the next is what they're doing on this playing field. I guarantee you there are users online that are able to play above-average, to good, to great defense.
What are they doing that other people aren't? It's the easy way out to blame the game when your opponent has to deal with the same flaws you do.
People get too caught up with the idea of "sim" thinking that means the game is supposed to look exactly like an NBA game. That's only true if BOTH players are using strategies that are close to what NBA teams actually do. This is rarely going to happen in any sports game. Most people don't, can't, or won't. You have to account for the fact your opponents want to do things like run around in circles with LeBron all game.
The second your opponent deviates from what a normal NBA team does, you also have to. To adjust to whatever hair-brained strategy they are running. It doesn't matter if I try to play defense like the real-life Pacers if my opponent doesn't play offense like the real life Heat. Real NBA coaches would abandon their standard gameplay the second they ran into an opponent who used some "non sim" strategy.
But it crushes my soul. When I play with the Cs and do everything right, challenge every shot, it doesn't matter. Guys are shooting so many threes now it's stupid. Shoot with good shooters and they hit 30% minimum no matter how challenged they are. I put in lock down lineups and it doesn't matter. Offensive rebounds, challenged BS shots, sliding out of the way of LBJ on the drive,
it sucks.
And it really sucks for folks who like basketball strategy, because simply put good strategy and execution does not have rewards, and it should. This game rewards the people who find a few exploits and exploit them shamelessly.
it sucks. I feel you big time OP.Comment

Re: High powered teams.
They can be beaten if you stay patient & recognize what your opponent is doing. I'm not the best player in the world, but I know how to play the game. I play a Sim Style (control tempo, run plays & use strategy) to win games. I only use the Wizards, so I know my team very well from 1-12, shooting stroke, hot spots, tendencies..etc. So when I play online I have faith my team can go at anybody.
With that being said, I also know how my team can go on scoring droughts ( especially in the 4th), missing wide open shots, bobbling passes and letting players go right pass them to score. I call it the "clutch factor" unless your using the "High Power" teams you team will go through this as the engine is built on the better teams having an advantage or they wouldn't be considered a better team if they didn't. I've been up double digits for 3 quarters only to go cold in the 4th and barely hold on for a win or in some cases lose.
The ratings just don't make a team High Powered, the engine does. That's why a team can gain momentum if Melo/KD/LBJ gets a dunk or score & go on a huge run, while it doesn't happen for a person like Trevor Ariza the game is made for the superstar. So you have to counter any momentum change by using your superstar. Which make it hard for weaker teams when their superstar is in the low 80's while everyone else is using stars in the 90's.
To sum it up, learn a team & everything about them. Learn which stars will help your team gain momentum & use them to go on a run or stop one. The High Power teams can be beaten. The reason some can't beat them, cause they don't know how to play the game within the game. The reason newbies can beat you with the Heat or OKC & only use Wade/LBJ or Westbrook/KD cause they build momentum every time they make a good play. If you let them constantly score and gain momentum usually they will open the game up in a matter of seconds like playing the CPU on HOF. Once you get frustrated and can't stop their momentum the game is over.
Here is a pic of my QM stats (105-37). I don't play QM a lot because of the settings. But my record is good just using the Wizards. I've beaten teams without Wall, Beal, Nene, Ariza, Webster, Martin during these games as the Wiz stayed hurt all year and I never played with my whole cast till recently. The Key for me winning was running plays and slowing the game down when needed. I have Wall so if you think you can play an uptempo game against me your in for a disappointment as Wall, Beal & Ariza will beat you down the court on a fastbreak once you miss (no football passes) just outlet passing to my speedsters and letting them run the 3 on ? break. In the halfcourt I will slow it down run my sets & get Nene & the rest of my post players involved. Then in the the 4th I will slow the game down to a crawl, cause I know the engine will make my team falter down the stretch with turnovers, missed shots & lackadaisical defense. So i'll limit the possessions in the game as I fight to hold on to my lead or make a comeback. That's controlling the tempo of the game. If you can control the tempo of a game you will seldom lose.Attached FilesLast edited by capitolrf; 07-25-2013, 06:21 PM.Comment
