The post game feels so weak because there aren't any power moves, hooks don't work as well as they should with the right players, You can't back down a smaller weaker player half the time, too many stupid one hand floaters right at the rim.

That's not the point. And even then, Gasol is one of the best post players in the game. And sure, I'd drop step and layup as well. But the success of hook shots is hugely inconsistent. The other post shots are even worse.

when the hook shot has a higher % chance of going in. It's pretty frustrating that most bigs can only score when abusing the up & under move. I have a 7'1 center with good post-up game ability and he can't hit a hook shot to save his life.. he made byron frickin mullens look like a defensive stopper

They need to bring back fun gaming mechanics to the post game.

I think they need to slightly overrate the post fadeaway so it is a real threat and reduce the effectiveness of the right stick defense that will force the defense to make a decision. Would bring back logic to the up and under. You would do an up and under when you got the defender to bite not just as your goto move whatever the defense does. Add defensive counter animation to every up and under animation. If the defense stays on their feet there is a contact animation triggered everytime. Sometimes the offensive player depending on his low post offense rating looses the ball/travel when he forces. Maybe it could even shake in the pad to tell you that you should not force the under of the up and under move. Add a timing to the last move of the up and under. There is no reason that move is that easy to pull off.

Bring back the hook shot into the game. Also take off that standing floater big men do where they lean forward and morph into the D. That move is terrible and doesn't make sence. Replace it by a standing hook.

The post game used to be awesome in NBA2K. I've spent countless hours trying to master it back in 2K11. While there are even more moves in 2K13 the post game is poorly balanced. The right stick defense and the nerfed post fadeaway has lead the defenders to NEVER (if they know the game) jump on fakes.

To add to this I think that when defending the post fadeaways and right hook and left hooks the defense should have to put the left stick in the right direction as well as pressing Y and also with the right timing. It's just too easy/not fun enough of a mechanic to just have to press Y or just use the right stick defense. It would make the shimmy fakes more deadly as opposed to aesthetics only.

Playing with Dirk in the post is a joy.

He's got one of the few fallaway jump shots that go in a good amount of time.

All the options and set of moves you can do to make your opponent look flat out silly, that's worth trying to learn. Sure anybody can isomotion for days and dribble back and forth until they're open, my momma can do that. What m mom can't do is catch the ball in the post and have the defender sitting there wondering what you're going to do and when you use a variety of moves on them, it's a done deal. He's over here jumping on pass fakes... he's over here making steal attempts as his last name is looking at mine swoop past him... {swiper nooo swiping} he's over here calling for a double team and all I did was face up...

I only play with the Lakers online 1. Cause they're my favorite team and 2. To use Kobe in the post. If you want to really learn how to play in the post, is recommend playing with Kobe because of his post game and his mid-range. You can catch the ball in the post and face up and just take whatever the defender gives you, you can go around him, you can pull up, or you can make him give up. Many people just dont even give any thoughts about the post game until you play someone who has it. Generally you'll see alot of (Y, Y's) the quick spin and thats about the only move they'll use cause in most cases it works, but thats not post game, that's weak, that and the continued use of the up and under. The post game is definitely (in my opinion) the funnest part of offense. It's an entirely new world down there, but it's not something you can just pick up overnight.

And always remember knowledge is always worth learning.
just like you said that anybody can isomotion until they are open anyone can up an under untill you are open...

Lower the effectiveness of the up-and-under and quick spin since those are the only moves people know/do.

They've worked so much on the perimeter game with new signature shots and better isomotion and such but now it's time to do the same and really expand the post game.

                              Ksutton said it best;
Personally, I use the post game due to the team I use. Honestly, it feels that the post game is a dying art. Even when I play IRL, it seems that people rarely want to play in the post. Everyone wants to be guards. I love playing in the post, because you'll be surprised how many options become available.

The OP question could be asked for real life basketball could it not?
How can the NBA make the post game worth learning? Well sport is a game of imitation/replication, so they (NBA) need a superstar big man with post moves if there is gonna be any chance of a post game resurgence. Otherwise its gonna continue on the path it has been on.

Hopefully some of the rookie big men can establish some post moves and try and bring pack the post game of the past so that maybe the youth of today will embrace it going forward. B/c the way it is now... isn't gonna help peeps want to play in the post as they just don't see it in the League.

Al Jeff -Jazz/Bobcats = no tv time

Pau has a post game, Pringles wont let him use it, so again don't get to see it and if you can't see it, then 'out of sight out of mind' kicks in.

Who else has an established post game in the L? Bynum? Potential... whom else? Dwight? .

Hibbert (to me is the only true old school style Center). Scola has game, Gortat does too (uses too much face up in his game) but been playing for PHO = no tv time.

Post players still have their use in the NBA, but the league is becoming smaller and quicker, so you're less likely to see it.

As far as 2K is concerned, it's still worth learning, as most 2K players suck at defending the post, but the 3pt shot is so successful, perhaps the most efficient shot in the game (because of overrated 3pt ratings, and broken sig skills), regardless of whether you're being contested or not, it's better just to go with that then use a lot more of the shot clock to get two points.

If you played 2K11, you would know that 2K12 and 13's average quick rank scores are over-inflated. Usually you would end up with a score of 36-30 in a 5 minute quarter QR game in 2K11. Now you're getting 70-62 scores, scores double or more of 2K11.
