It's not 2K's fault there was no competition, at least directly. There's been no competition because of the quality of 2K's game versus the competition. I'm not sure how reputable VGChartz is, but if their sales figures are to be believed 2K has grown the videogame basketball market. Not to go down any trash-EA route and with the caveat 2K released on more platforms, but NBA2K10 sold roughly more than 2 times what NBA Live 10 sold. And the next year NBA2K11 outsold them both combined:

    NBA Live 10 sales
VGChartz - extensive game chart coverage, including sales data, news, reviews, forums, & game database for PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch & PC

    NBA2K10 sales
VGChartz - extensive game chart coverage, including sales data, news, reviews, forums, & game database for PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch & PC

    NBA2K11 sales
VGChartz - extensive game chart coverage, including sales data, news, reviews, forums, & game database for PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch & PC

    NBA2K12
VGChartz - extensive game chart coverage, including sales data, news, reviews, forums, & game database for PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch & PC

That's sniffing NFL (Madden) numbers. So no, 2K definitely grew the basketball market on their own. Getting Michael Jordan and the legacy players + the overall quality of the game bumped subsequent NBA2Ks up WAY more than Live's absence has. There's a lot the game does wrong but there's also a lot it does right - that's the part that gets forgotten around here sometimes.

EDIT: apologies to the OP as this is a thread about what 2K is doing wrong

My bad, guess did a bad basic calulation, sincere smh at me, age must be doing its decay on me ... sorry about that. 2k has done a phenomenal job with that and deserves even more praising.

Having said that, my point (the one that pertaints to the thread and of what has they done wrong) remains tho and maybe more strongly so if the market has increased that much and if it still has potential to grow even more.

Recurring errors/bugs/omissions/miss directions should not be dismissed, having competition should not be either, even if it is one comming from a competitor that struggled to get a game out for 3 straight years.

Did anyone consider the fact that the leagues are the entities that control how sports games are released? And what company is able to survive without making money? Some of the crying here becomes borderline nonsense sometimes. For the record, it's odd how one person in one thread complains how the game doesn't change while this one has posts that say it changes too much. Funny.

I don't care how 2k gets it done (build off old, start with new), just get it done. Problems such as rebounding, passing, and spacing shouldn't be present in current or next gen hoop games. As far as online, it's online. Why else would you get online than to compete? I know the game won't run as fast as offline, and we may see lag, but that's a given. Who gives a damn about spammers and people trying to cheat their way to victory? A man named Simon Phoenix once said,"Hey, you can't take away people's rights to be *******S." I agree with him, you can't. Produce a "functional" basketball game. Bring lobbies back so that the game can be enjoyed by a wider audience. I know EA been down for a few years, but EA got money. I'm sure they trying to come wit it. 2k, don't get caught with your pants down.
