I was just about to comment on this. Lol @ "THIS year you'll be able to block dunks!!!" How in the hell do you justify last year's game NOT being able to do so??? And people are all getting excited Lol. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're back in but it's something that should never have been left out in the first place.

Re: NBA 2K14 Features New Blocking System, Includes the Ability to Block Dunks
an important key to this new system working is that they have to add "smarter" dunk animations. It's really going to get annoying if i get my dunk blocked because my player attempted some flashy windmill animation in which he brought the ball down low and "exposed" it to being blocked....whereas if he had just done a simple dunk animation and kept the ball up above his head, it would not have been "blockable." in that case, it would not be my fault for getting it blocked, it would be the game's fault for giving me a crazy dunk animation that was too easy to block. players should always do simpler dunks and keep the ball above their head to avoid getting it blocked as much as possible.
players shouldn't be doing crazy windmills in traffic and exposing the ball to getting blocked. windmills and other "easily blockable" dunks should only be attempted on fast breaks with no defender around.
That said, I still think there's a time and a place for flashy dunks in the half court, just not if they're obviously going to lead to an easy block. For instance, if a prime Vince ever made a video game appearance, I wouldn't want to be unable to pull this off just because there's defenders waiting:

Re: NBA 2K14 Features New Blocking System, Includes the Ability to Block Dunks
hopefully this means the removal of Left Trigger blocking!!!!! leave it to the users skill to successfully block dunks not some CPU shot contest from holding a trigger#SIMNATION

Re: NBA 2K14 Features New Blocking System, Includes the Ability to Block Dunks
Personally, when people start gloating over mess like this it only persuades them to continue ignoring the wonky gameplay. Now the CPU will be overkill and blocking multiple dunks per game. When in reality, it is RARE when a dunk gets blocked in the NBA. Which is why it's a beautiful thing when it does happen. I just don't see it playing out on this game. Too often in the past dunks were getting blocked in the most wonky and stupid ways.
2K needs to concern themselves strictly with the gameplay, and suction animations, and canned animations. Not interested in dunks being blocked.#SIMNATION

Re: NBA 2K14 Blocking Dunks
Yeah, it would be nice if they added back the controls for dunking like they used to have in 2k11 were you could choose what kind of dunk you wanted to perform based on the direction of the right stick. In 2k13 it looks like the only one you can manually control yourself is the reverse dunk (down on RS).Comment

Re: NBA 2K14 Features New Blocking System, Includes the Ability to Block Dunks
Cool story bro...but um, I'm all about those Leaderboards. My main concern is this:
What Happens when and if there is crew, or myplayer pickup games, or blacktop games, and everyone eventually reaches an overall 99 & everyone becomes maxed out in their respective blocked shots attributes and their maxed out dunking abilities, Does it then become a mini-game of rock paper scissors? What will be the deciding factor of what dunks get blocked and what dunks don't when everyone can block shots? This needs to be addressed. I will not fall for the okie doke. 2K sports I'm all in for the "New blocking system" but please be more transparent as far as the attributes, or tendencies or whatever the deciding factor will be online when it comes to blocking players shots are concerned. Also, explain will there be 3 times within a dunk sequence where there will be an open window to block shots.
Example:Early,Perfect, Late block animations. Will Blocking in any of these sequences result in greater or less than looking block animations? Example:
Early:basic block animation
Perfect:Javale McGee/Lebron James Animations
Late:Tipped Block aimations
Any Information on this would be much appreciated.
By the way, I'm officially switching over to PS4#PSNation....so i feel sorry for you boys over on playstation who say everyone plays legit and theres no way that what goes on over on Xbox would happen on PS. Say hello to my little friend!!!!!!!!!!!!Comment

Re: NBA 2K14 Features New Blocking System, Includes the Ability to Block Dunks
What you guys are missing is what 2k does a terrible job at that EA does too good of a job with. This is basically BlockTech. LOL You see what I am saying. This was not just click and button and now you can block dunks.
A new block system was put in. This is new "engine" stuff you guys been crying for. They just suck at the cool names. This is bigger than just dunks it's the whole shot block "system" or "engine".
I mean you could block dunks prior to 2k13. 2k13 for whatever reason had that missing so since every thread for the last few months has been we better be able to block dunks they announced... wait for it... you can block dunks. ROTFLOL.
DISCLAIMER. This is no way means there will never be a time when something other than the hand blocks the shot dunk layup etc. The build I played can and possibly has changed a great amount since my experience. I can not guarantee that your definition of engine and mine are the same same. It was me and not 2k sports that made the comparison of system and engine. blah blah blah. up = flashy
back = reverse
forward = straight dunk (regular)
down = power
spinning the stick will yield a 360 dunk
Am I right on this? To this day I still press it accordingly and I don't know why because the dunks are pretty much context now.
With the new block dunk system in place that useless from dunk to layup move will finally be useful.Comment

Re: NBA 2K14 Blocking Dunks
Oh, please. We're about to enter the eighth generation of video game consoles. We've got MF-in games that you can play using your body as the controller, 3D televisions and 4K ultra high-definition resolution (both of which are supported on the PS4/Xbox One), and 2K's like "WE ADDED AN UNJUSTLY REMOVED FEATURE GIVE US MONEYS"Comment
