Re: The Tough Road of Being a Sports Developer, Featuring Mike Wang
i'd much rather pay for a game that was rock solid and had less fluff than to keep paying for a bug filled 2k13 again. i can't even count the amount of times i've lost mycareers due to inexplicable game freezes when trying to play the next game. rookie contract extension freezing the game in mycareer mode? no fixes for this stuff. but we have a really weird disjointed all star game weekend dlc (or pre-order content), thanks.
technology is changing with console gaming and everything is downloadable. why not make a core nba 2k game and then have DLC addons? but the point isn't about putting out a great product, it's about making money with a so-so product and since they're used to getting that money once a year (and now with VC, which i'm sure everyone underestimates how much they've made from that), why bother changing?
and please, you're telling me blacktop mode / myteam brought in a few million EXTRA sales? right.
i'd just like the devs to get more time to make something incredible. i'm not saying that they're terrible at their jobs or anything. i know what it's like working under time constraints and having to sacrifice to put something out, but at some point someone up top has to draw the line.
all i can say is that i truly hope that nba live comes out and lights a big fire (hopefully it doesn't light itself on fire, haha). maybe developing for 1 architecture will help them out so they don't have to port games. who knows!|| rv motion graphics. ||Comment

it's just amazing to me that people were anti 2k releasing on a 2yr cycle when people can clearly list out issues like the previous posts.

Re: The Tough Road of Being a Sports Developer, Featuring Mike Wang
regardless, i'm still probably going to buy 2k14 because i'm sure that it'll be better than last year and play it a ton and then get tired of it at the same point because of bugs or half finished ideas in modes.
btw, why was live able to go a couple of years without a release if they're both licensed with the nba? i mean, what constitutes a 'release'? i'm just being a jerk about it at this point and don't really need a reply but it seems like 2k needs to have it's own 'CBA' with the NBA to get some quality under control. who else would take up the NBA license, no one?Last edited by ryantheplague; 08-21-2013, 04:31 PM.|| rv motion graphics. ||Comment

yeah, i get that. it's just unfortunate for the developers and for the people that buy the games. it really is. i just don't like being told i'm playing an alpha or beta build of a game when i paid $60 for it.

STINK BOMB ALERT...........!!!!
Forget all this mess.....I just want College Hoops Back....
Ok... we can now return to our previously scheduled programming......These are my opinions based off of my perspective. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, but if you disagree, we can still agree to disagree agreeably and not fight about it.Comment

Re: The Tough Road of Being a Sports Developer with Mike Wang
One thing I loved about the old CH was that they had another studio working on the game (Kush) and when 2k took over the project, you didn't see a drop in quality.
I promise if these guys could get involved with someone that allowed them to switch off between years like what the COD games did we'd probably get a chance to see what Mike is mentioning here. I understand why people say nuh uhn, it aint gonna happen...its just something I wish they could do.
Maybe this article is Mike's way of trying to get attention of the higher ups (or others in the industry) to make a change as he probably knows all too well how unrealistic this situation is.Comment

Re: The Tough Road of Being a Sports Developer with Mike Wang
It's unrealistic to expect sports games to keep their games as polished and state of the art as the rest of the video games, and not allow the same development cycle that those games have. With every new system, games are getting more complex to develop. Furthermore the bugs and imbalances that come with every game are way more amplified, and those "How did they miss this?" moments occur more than in a battlefield or gta. Perhaps with formidable competition, the powers that be might consider changing to two different software groups like COD. But as long as they are the only kid on the block, we're going to keep buying the game, what's the point in changing anything?

Im not talking other games, im talking the best THIS game can be, and that example I gave was the closest one. People were worried about CH when 2k took the game from Kush games, but as you can see til this day folks are still clamouring for a CH game badly.Comment
