I think people are over thinking this mode its all fantasy scenario drawn up by 2k. They actually created a fantasy player on Dallas who is the Lebron stopper.

The knicks are 20 million over the cap. In 14-15 they will be 22 million over the cap. Most of their contracts don't come off the books until 2015. So did Lebron take the vets minimum?

In the future superstars put their egos aside and realize money isn't everything so they take paycuts in order to play with other superstars.

So people are complaining about a mode they're not interested in playing? Ok... Then just don't play it, no need to whine about it.

I've kind of stayed out of the topics on this new mode, but I think it's fair for folks to voice their displeasure with additions to the game they feel are not in their best interests and are not consistent with what they wish to see out of a basketball simulation.

For instance, there's some people who are looking for a more realistic Association mode from the formerly referenced #1 Basketball Simulation. It's probably a little disheartening on some level to see the time and effort spent instead on a mode that is essentially a completely fictionalized storyline made up from scratch with just the slightest of realistic bases.

And to be honest, as often as 2K seems to reference listening to their fans and following what people want, I'm guessing there's also a little bit of a feeling that those who do not favor certain directions of this game recently (virtual currency push, super fantasy) feel it's necessary to voice their displeasure in hopes of not being pushed completely to the wayside.

I admit with certain features I don't like, I think, "Well, I don't really care for that so I probably just won't share. But if I don't say anything... and noone else says anything, is it going to be interpreted that we all love the direction they're going?"

Well if you watched the video Lebron was already in NY befits CP3 and Howard . The video clearly said first year the new big threee together . Smh moving Melo, Amare's , Jr's and Tyson's contract is do'able if they took less money like the heat did before

This new "fantasy" buzzword this year is making me chuckle a little...

This is a basketball video game. People have been creating their own player and running with them for years...and this is something that "sim and non sim" have enjoyed for years.

If you're content with Quick Game and Association being the only game options and want to express that, that's cool...but there is a better way to do it...

Nobody's going in your association threads saying that it doesn't matter...lol

Is this really an issue about the Knicks having DHoward and CP3? It's some fantasy team that 2k devs chose....how is this an issue?

Starting at 1:30 the guy even explains that the devs thought it would make an interesting scenario. Holy crap I can't believe how OC some of you guys are....

Still would've loved if PTG had stuff from the past to this future, cause if LeBron retired today, he would still would've been known as one of the Greats. Path is usually something to build and work for. This is more like "LeBron: Path to Greatest." Difference with "Greatest" is this is trying to get him as the greatest of all time, rather than "Greatness," which he already/

That may because the only Association threads that exist are those created by folks wishing that 2K actually paid attention to that mode in the first place.

Also, inherently, Associations are about taking real life NBA teams, with real life NBA players, and moving forward as one sees fit. There's a choice. Players can make it as isolated from reality as humanly possible (jumble all the rosters, draft made up players, etc.), as realistic as possible (follow the NBA season, transaction for transaction), or anywhere in between. Moving a team into the future is surely fantasy, but it's still based in reality to a large degree.

And yes, it's all a form of fantasy when it comes down to it, like all video games. But, again, the line between realistic based fantasy (real rosters, the potential for realistic roster management and seasons) and modes based on fictional players, fictional teams, and pre-decided (and fully fictional) storylines is clear, no? Perhaps we struggle with our words to describe the difference ("fantasy" may be the wrong label) but do you see where folks are coming from?

I like variance and I even enjoy dabbling in some of the fiction-based modes (I usually play MyPlayer for a little bit before monotony settles in for me). I don't have an issue with that portion of the game existing. I do begin to develop an issue if that type of gaming is seeming to take precedent over the more realism-based modes. And that is my worry this year. There's still a fair amount of people whose interest in NBA 2K14 is the NBA portion; as in, its ability to replicate the real league of which we're all fans. I mean, it's not exactly a Backyard Basketball title.

Long story short, I'm a little burnt out on all the focus and emphasis on MyTeam, MyPlayer, Crew, Online, VC, Euroleague and Path to Greatness because I find them to be too far removed from what I'm looking for in a NBA simulation basketball game. I also feel, in turn, that such emphasis on all the modes mentioned above may have very well reduced the amount of time spent on more of the real life simulation-based modes. With no other basketball simulation alternative, I sometimes find it in my best interest to gently voice my displeasure with reasoned and level headed responses on an internet message board. It has no bearing, I know, but I suppose it is cathartic to some degree.

Not a Lebron fan but would been amazing playing as skinny rookie cavs Lebron with Darius miles and Wagner, would love to make Wagner Lebron 2nd option for his career. WELP thanks 2k for letting me have such option like in 2k11 Jordan had such things.

Great post again. No one is advocating getting rid of mycareer, myteam, blacktop etc. Mycareer especially is a good mode. But these fantasy modes like PTG are being created when the modes that are largely based on reality and are a staple of every sports game (association) are being ignored year after year in 2k. Why can't they fix the issues in existing reality-based modes before taking up dev time creating fantasy modes like PTG?
