I'm curious how the two are calculated differently. We all know shootarounds are a completely different situation from real games, and a wide open shot in one isn't the same in the other even though the mechanics are essentially identical.

How does 2K "factor in" those intangible differences? Are the shot percentages simply scaled up for practice and down during games? Is "morale" at max in practice mode to reflect the lack of pressure?

The primary difference is that the bonus you get from excellent shot timing is almost 10 times greater in practice than normal. Practice mode is meant to help you perfect your shot timing and learn the different release points, but I wouldn't use it as a gauge for what types of shots are useful in a game context.

I just hope they leave zone defense the way it is. I dunno why people still think zone D is just the end all be all but it definitely isn't anymore from what I saw.

In all fairness I only played 1 game but I absolutely destroyed a guy using the Lakers who played nothing but zone the whole game even though I was missing tons of shots while getting used to releases. if he didn't pull his cable in the 4th I was going to drop over 100 on him.

From what I experienced i'm pretty sure the days of sitting in a zone all game with no adjustments are over. Just set your offense to 3 out 2 in or 4 out 1 in if you have a 4 who can shoot and there is absolutely no way that they are going to guard everyone at the same time, which is the way it should have been all along.

Lol yet another one. 2K really made a beautiful game with 2K14 this year. This video really shows how little these "Youtubers" know about 2K basketball. All you have to do is change your defensive settings to make your team play tight D. You also should lower your help defense slider if you dont want guys coming over and helping in the paint. I bet he did none of that. Also on that pass that Lebron through away, Dwight Howard was right in front of the ball. What is he talking about? Mistakes like that happen in real life. It's called mis-communication.

Nobody wants to take the time to learn things and make adjustments these days. They just expect to pick up the game, follow the same cheesy habits from past years and dominate right away. That's definitely not basketball. It's about strategy, development and adjustments. Devs, thank you so much for NBA 2K14.

This game has everything I've ever wanted from a hoops game.

Ah, gotcha. It gives unambiguous feedback for well timed shots. Off to launch 3's with Andrew Bogut.

Coudn't bother watching this crap but does the guy at least took the time tocheck his defensive settings? I haven't had much time with the game so I can't really comment too much.

I'm starting to appreciate 2K14's defense-- not necessarily how much "better" it is, but how much more realistic it may be.

The sagging he's complaining about is normal NBA defensive spacing. Players sag off-ball to provide help defense until the ball swings to their man, then close out to contest the shot or defend the drive. It's precisely why Dwayne Wade was able to double Howard quickly, even though that's not what he wanted to happen.

Perimeter defense is much harder this year. Last year you could basically ride the perimeter guy with LT a lot more. I used it liberally to impede the ball handler's movement and regain contact. This year, it's much less effective. It's still completely necessary to stay with your man, but you have to use it extremely sparingly. Also, you need to meet your man where he's going, not where he already is. Trying to play tight and crowding up on the handler as he's moving at the top of the key will leave you in the dust.

This wasn't necessarily the case last year, as LT/tight allowed me to contest shots *and* prevent drives reasonably well, when you give up one for the other in real life. That never felt right and maybe I'm actually getting what I've been asking for.

I was getting destroyed by Kobe in 2K14 but was eventually able to check him by sagging off him a bit at the three point line and picking him up as he drove, whereas I would just play up on the ball in past games to spoil both the drive and the shot. I think I also had to set my defense to double Kobe on the drive. Feels like NBA defensive fundamentals might actually be necessary this year.

Not a big fan of how ineffective the RS hands up is though. It's super slow out on the perimeter with a weird delay, and doesn't seem to do as much inside as in last year's game. I'm not sure how realistic this is. Shot blockers are also extremely slow footed and unresponsive. I've gotten maybe 0-1 block with Andrew Bogut in several 12 min quarter games. That doesn't seem right. He doesn't feel like a defensive beast at all. Other players picked up quite a few blocks though.

The problem I see here is that 2K gave a lot of importance to theses Myplayer mostly arcade's type of youtubers by inviting them to the community team up. That gave them views and subs. It might backfires on them now that it looks like 2K went the sim route.

It's kinda of hilarious to hear theses guys complain that their myplayer doesn't slide magically behind the 3pt line anymore now. Who would want that seriously? Or watch them complain that their offbal players try to help when they don't even bother checking their defensive settings.

Next year I hope 2K changes his approach especially since casuals will buy the game because of it's awesome graphics anyway.

Question about that: do players still do a good job of getting their feet behind the line when they're supposed to? We might be referring to two different issues. 2K used to have a problem (maybe in, like, 2K11 and earlier) where players who should be squaring up behind the line would often step on the line (particularly from the corner). I'm supposing you're not referring to that.
