Re: Sim and Defense online this year? Not seeing it at all.
- I think what people have to understand is you can't turn average defenders into great defenders. The better your team or players are at defending the least amount of adjustments need to make because their DAWR prevents them from doing too many dumb mistakes.
- Coach profiles must be adjusted as the roster has them all at 50

Re: Sim and Defense online this year? Not seeing it at all.
Any idea if the CPU adjusts stuff like "pressure" on the fly due to "adaptive defensive AI"?
I'm thinking that it should have pressure cranked up all the way when defending shooters like Curry.Comment

Re: Sim and Defense online this year? Not seeing it at all.
My problems with on ball d especially have been
- For some reason when you are trying to guard the ball handler and are trying to maneuver around players you sometimes get sucked into off ball animations with players on the offensive side of the ball which gives the ball handler an advantage at times.
- When you contest it is slow and on top of that sometimes guys contest shots with their backs turned or contest like they are contesting the air instead of the guy shooting.
- One thing that bugs me the most is when you are defending a guy trying to get contact or contest on-ball or off-ball you will sometimes BOUNCE off of the guys in this stupid animation which effs your whole on ball d up. Not to mention when you sometimes contest and their is contact sometimes they do not follow thru with the contest because of some gravitational force that stop your player from jumping mid air and pushes him down.
- Stephen curry is not afraid of roy hibbert as a shot blocker in this game b/c he can just body bump him in for a easy layup(Roy Hibbert on the floor, BLOCKING OR SHOOTING FOUL), Stephen Curry (Unmoved)
Loose balls and Defensive rebounds are defense also b/c if you dont secure those you pretty much did not play defense really and the awareness of those two are JACKED.
IDK forgot who said rebounding is back but thats NOT TRUE, box out and expect not to get a rebound at times when you clearly should b/c player awarness of the ball is JACKED.Comment

Yeah, like a few of the guys have already stated, my advice would be to lightly tilt the left stick to get your defender where you want him to go. This is where I get into trouble...When I full on lean the stick in a direction. Also...instead of moving the stick where the defender is move it where he's going. It's impossible to beat him to a spot unless you know what his intentions are. What you CAN do is cut him off."I BALL FOR REAL, YALL DUDES IS SAM BOWIE."

You should not have to set anything to 100 to get it to do what it should. If the darn ai was smart, it wouldn't carelessly walk away from Carmelo Anthony to double team Ramon felton.PSN: ForeverVersatile

Re: Sim and Defense online this year? Not seeing it at all.
Thanks Jason, most of that I'm familiar with but some settings I haven't touched-- what exactly does ball pressure do? Does it just fine tune the spacing on top of Sag/Moderate/Tight, or does it cause crowd and steal animations?
Interesting that high-help can confuse defenders set to tight/deny off-ball. It'd be nice to assign help sliders to individual players, or for deny to always override help and to tight to result in help only when he knows he can (based on DAWR). Maybe it does that already, and low DAWR causes stupid decisions when making this assessment.
If you want Bogut to be the main help defender, just sag off him on both on ball and off ball situations and up the help d rotation coach slider. If you want Iggy to give no space to shooters, play him tight or deny (I try to never have more than 1 deny or would suffer from no help d) and up the on ball coach slider (then again, once you are controlling him, you are subject to your imputs; would suggest toying with assist slider and also with on ball d global sliders; for offline, adjust the contest sliders and the global SIT).
Also, dont know if they are in this year, but the pre set defensive settings, override this type of edits, so if you select preassure shooters, it override your imputs. I prefer to just play with my manual edits due to the preset not been suitable for every matchup, unless is something along the lines of rebounding.
Anyways, this game (since 2k12, am guessing 2k14 also) is so depth and with so many variables that all interact with each other, that to find what suits you perfectly will take time ... specialy if like me, you go on a matchup base.Comment

Re: Sim and Defense online this year? Not seeing it at all.
Just thought I'd chime in with my final impressions of online. I feel I've played enough online quickmatch games at this point to give some thorough impressions.
everything as already been mentioned in earlier posts...it's way too easy for people to make contested 3's and contact layups. the result is terrible players are able to hang around in games when they should be getting blown out by 30 if you consider their bad shot selection.
it's way too easy for people to just sprint upcourt at full speed and either jack up a 3 or ram into the paint for a contact layup or cheap foul. the game just doesn't reward quality shots enough. by allowing too many contact layups to go in, it encourages people to force bad interior shots and doesn't reward the defender for properly defending by sliding in front and stopping the drive. hot streaks are way too exaggerated, allowing people to easily get hot without earning it and this allows them to go on crazy scoring runs without having to get open or use any court awareness.
I was playing one guy who's only strategy was to shoot 3's (most of them were contested). first thing he did was change the knicks' lineup to an "all 3-point shooter" lineup. Felton, Smith, Shumpert at SF, Melo at PF, and Bargnani. with this garbage strategy of taking mostly contested 3's, he was still able to shoot 43% on his 3's and come back to within 9 points in the fourth quarter (don't say i wasn't playing good defense, most of his B.S. 3's were contested, but the game didn't seem to think that mattered). I should've blown him out by 30. you can still win online with smart ball, but cheese ball is still way too effective and this keeps many games too close when it should be a complete blowout.Last edited by blues rocker; 11-17-2013, 11:14 PM.Comment

Re: Sim and Defense online this year? Not seeing it at all.
I don't like Online Play at all. The main problem I have is Lag coupled with the heavy physics system of the game.
Other video games like Call Of Duty and Battlefield are playing vey good on my system, but not NBA 2k?????
We still have the problem of players sliding, being caught into animations, on fast breaks your players still not reacting good enough, etc. etc.....
When the game is playing good you see the potential, but when it's playing bad you really dislike the game.
If there is 1 THING I HATE the MOST about this game is the court spacing and passing lanes. It seems that way too many times players are running into each other which causes way too many turn overs. I would really like to see a larger court, smaller players I mean ANYTHING to help with the court spacing.... Every other play is a bad pass which leads to a turnover. The basketball has way too much physics as well, these programmers need to tone down the system as it is just WAY TOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!Comment

Re: Sim and Defense online this year? Not seeing it at all.
just wanted to mention this as well. it's been mentioned plenty already, but: WIDE OPEN SHOTS SIMPLY DON'T GO IN ENOUGH. you combine that with too many contested shots going in, and what you have is a game that doesn't really care that much about shot quality. there's nothing worse than getting wide open shots all game, and playing against somebody who just forces bad contact layups and contested jumpers....yet the score is often close or tied. such garbage. my lame opponent's making the most garbage of shots, meanwhile i'm getting wide open look after wide open look and it's nothing but bricks. the past 2 online games i used the warriors and took around 10 wide open 3's each game...and i shot 25% on 3's...this was all different players (Iggy, Curry, Thompson, Barnes)...so it wasn't like i was forcing too many 3's with one player who was cold. they just all bricked wide open 3's ALL GAME LONG. what. the. hell. the game has to reward good decision making and finding the open man. if you can't make your opponent pay for leaving shooters wide open, then why even play?Last edited by blues rocker; 11-18-2013, 11:30 AM.Comment

Offball deny will make the guys not help. They might get lazy and sag too much but they wont leave to help. Been like that for a while except 2k14 sags and helps more.Comment

Hence the best strategy is to force contact layups and chuck to hopefully get on a momentum induced streak, and looking for open shots over contested ones doesn't help much because the boost for a good shot isn't enough to overcome the negative momentum when you're cold.Comment
