Tried a bunch of them. They all made the cpu play worse. Do u have any suggestions? Most roster dudes make their rosters for realistic stats, not realistic gameplay. I edited the midrange and pullups for 2 teams, and put mid range on 100 for the coach profiles and the global sliders. Durant nor Melo took a j off the dribble with everything on 100. I'm almost sure it needs to be hardcoded.

I was with you until this post...Coaching Profiles and the Mid Range slider combined are pretty sure fire....not sure how your not seeing any mid range jumpers with those settings...

Profiles and sliders help with players taking open spot up jumpers, but the pullup game is pretty much non existent outside of the late-shotclock script. I've tried players with midrange/close/pullup/stepback maxed out, and it doesn't help much. The problem is probably that 2k didn't adjust the AI to the new way momentum shots are triggered. The sig animation gathers and escape shots are gone, and the AI seems to be unable to anticipate moves in order to chain together animations for momentum shots. Looks like a deeper issue with gameplay mechanics to me.

That reminds me of 2K8 where it seemed like the CPU would just relentlessly dump it into the paint or drive, almost as if somewhere another person was controlling them and just spamming points in the paint.

On current gen, the "sag off" setting is the typical distance most NBA players defend at. It allows them room to angle off the drive while using their length to contest.

On the other side of the coin, that space is often used by the offensive player to pull up on the mid range.

Consider most people don't select "sag off" on onball defenders because it seems odd, but that's part of the reason the midrange is lacking is that space isn't there.

On ball defense is overpowered and there isn't enough consequences for constantly playing tight.

Another solution is to lower On-Ball Defense for every team's Coach Profiles. This will create more distance between the defender and ball handler when you play against the CPU.

I've only seen Steph Curry and Monta Ellis do it. Maybe Westbrook as well.

I thought the same thing...i tried that, but i only found it to lessen the resistance the defenders put up (bumping animations), rather than creating more space.

Just last night I tried something to try help try and give the cpu a mid-range game. What I have done is gone to the edit player screen with the point guards and under the tendency screen completely zero out the drive lane spot up tendency and left the pull up or penetrate slider at default. What I have seen so for are the cpu running more plays and seeing them pull up in the mid-range. I think the fix could be between these sliders. In my example against Philly on all-star in 12 min. quarters they had just 14 pip out of 47 pts. and the cpu shot chart actually had variety. Will try to test more but don't have loads of time to test. Any way just wanted to try something while waiting on Beds roster.

The cpu has a tendency to drive into the paint no doubt. I'm using 2k's 11/27 roster with my own coach profile edits to team shooting tendencies (inside, close, mid,3pt) and even some teams I have with high mid range tendencies tend to want to drive, and drive, and drive till they get close to the bucket. WizFan2 is probably on to something when he says certain individual player tendencies play a huge part in where guys shoot and how they attack even more so than team profiles. I see players like KD35, Westbrook(Think 2k did really well with him), Paul George, and Rudy Gay pull up repeatedly in my games while others no matter how much space they get will force themselves into the paint despite having good midrange ratings.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Simple answer to your problem is to Edit Each Player's Tendency. 2k Has NOT done this for years and if you are waiting on them to fix it, get ready for a Long wait. Slider and Coaching Profile edits can help with the problem but the Player's Tendencies are Most important. IF you Edit ALL 3 (Player Tendencies, Sliders and Coaching Profiles) then you will see the game Play ALOT better. Also need to edit Playbooks as there are a TON of Broken Plays in them Out of Box Playbooks.

I think the toughest teams to get to play correctly are ones with two dominant scorers who play similar styles. For example, if you have Dwight Howard inside & Harden outside, it's a bit easier since their styles are different. If you have Pippen & Jordan or Wade & James however, it's tough to hit the right balance. One will often dominate the ball & the other will hardly touch it. I'm pretty content with other areas but this is one I'm still working on. That & getting a player like Jordan to not take so many floaters.

And role players play like superstars.

Jeremy Lamb, despite like a 73 overall is averaging 17ppg on 45%+ shooting because he drives on nearly every single posession he gets the ball.

Also Westrbrook is only averaging 18 ppg because of that kid.

On an unrelated note: Adjusting and Setting the Help Defense to 100 for every team in the Coach Profile drastically improves gameplay, how the CPU plays and reduces PIP!
