Never could've happened. Kobe wanted to go to LA or New York and wouldn't report for any other team that drafted.

    That said:

What if the Hornets traded Kobe to New York instead of LA?

    Other ones:
What if the Pistons treated Grant Hill's injury correctly and he stayed in Detroit?

What if Lakers traded Kobe instead of Shaq?

What if the Bulls never traded Oakley for Wellington (thus never giving them a real center)?

What if the Bulls didn't trade Brand to the Clippers?

What if the Malice In The Palace never happened?

What if Jordan was a member of the (enter team here)'s Front Office in 2001 instead of the Wizards?

What if the Pistons didn't trade Stackhouse for Rip?

What if Isiah Thomas wasn't offered a job with the Knicks?

What if the Grizzlies got the First draft pick in the LeBron draft, instead of Number 2, Making the Draft Order Grizz/Cavs/Nuggets/Raptors/Heat?

What if Bird didn't wait a year after being drafted to play in the NBA?

What if Kareem didn't get injured in the Finals, forcing Magic to start at Center and essentially speed up his career?

What if Vince Carter made the last second shot in the 2001 Eastern Semis, making the ECF Bucks/Raptors instead of Bucks/Sixers? (my personal favourite)

What if the Nets didn't have to pay the Knicks for territorial rights to join the NBA, saving them from having to trade Dr. J to the 76ers?

What if there wasn't a Lock out in 1998-99 and the Bulls were able to bring back Jackson/Jordan/Scottie (but not Rodman, since he was being pushed out of Chicago by that point by the other three)?

What if Jordan didn't return and Kwame was allowed to develop without Jordan's on court pressure?

        Bill Cartwright?

And I'd be quite interested in a roster like this. I've considered it myself, in fact.

I stand corrected. Don't know why I said Wellington.

I uploaded the roster and its based on my OS Mixtape Vol. 1.5. I re-did some of the biggest decisions from 2000 until now except not redoing the 2009 draft completely.

            File name: What-if Roster 2000

            Enjoy

What exactly are the "What If" scenarios? I downloaded this and Darko and Chris Bosh are on the Raptors so I don't get it...

That one was a mistake. But these are the scenarios I did in this roster:

-What if Artest, Brand stayed on the Bulls
-What if the Bulls never traded LeMarcus Aldridge
-What if the Pistons chose Wade No.2 instead of Darko
-What if the Hawks picked Paul instead of Marvin Williams
-What if the Pistons kept their team together (Billups, Sheed, etc.)
-What if the Suns never made those draft day trades toi get rid of Rajon Rondo and Joe Johnson and what if they kept Shawn Marion
                - What if Shaq went to the Mavericks instead of the Heat
                - What if KG got traded to the Lakers instead of to the Celtics (Timberwolves should then have Andrew Bynum, my mistake on that)
                - What if the Knicks never released Marbury
                - What if Boozer stayed on the Cavaliers
                - What if Al Jefferson stayed on the Celtics
                - What if the Warriors kept their team together (B.Davis, S. Jackson, etc.)
                - What if A.Miller stayed on the Sixers
                - What if Kings and Bulls never made that trade (Nocioni stays on Bulls, Salmons and B. Miller stays on Kings) and Bibby is also on Kings
                - What if Camby stayed on the Knicks
                - What if Pacer stayed together minus Artest

There are more to mention but thats all I can think of off the top of my head right now. I corrected the mistakes and uploaded a new one called "What-If Roster 2000 Vol.2"

Oh and if your wondering why the Pistons don't have Carmelo instead of Wade its because I did some research and in Bill Simmons' book the Pistons would of never picked Carmelo anyways because of he and Larry Brown would've clashed like they did in the 04' Olympics.

Well, that clears some things up...

You should look into the consequences of the scenarios though. The Raptors would not have Marcus Banks without trading for Jermaine ONeal, and would still have Charlie V. For one example off the top of my head.

Re: Would anyone be interested in a What-If Roster?

On 2k9 for the PC I did this, only I didn't worry about trades or FA, just the draft. I would look at the top 30 or so players in each draft and re-assign them to the team who needed them the most. It would definitely take it a step further to do it with trades, and would be able to have a better "What-If" scenario.

For example, in 2000, the Nets had the first pick and took Kenyon Martin, a standout PF from UC. They needed frontcourt players more than anything, so I would look at PF's and C's from that draft. In looking at the 2000 Draft Class on 2k10, Kenyon has an overall rating of 74, 4th best player in the draft, so they would still get him.

The number 2 pick wouldn't be that interesting, but the Clips at #3 would get Michael Redd, Turkoglu, or Jamal Crawford instead of Darius Miles. It gets more interesting in drafts that were actually good. That draft? Not so much.

Another wrinkle would be no trading of draft picks. If teams would pick in the order they should have, there are some that would be VERY different.

Edit: Actually, I'm going to start this project on my own. If I am able to complete it, I will upload an Excel document that shows what happened each year.

I dont want things to be complicated, but if Chicago had Brand/Artest they wouldn't had been bad enough to get LeMarcus Aldridge with the 2nd pick. You don't have to do this if im making it to complicated.
Another idea: What if Jay Williams never got hurt from the motorcycle incident and he was still in the NBA.

Actually, this is a consideration for a lot of the what ifs. For example, if the Hawks drafted Chris Paul then they wouldn't have stunk that much that year and it is a strong possibility they did not have the 3rd pick in 2007 (therefore no Horford).

Also, would they still be in Chicago after all these years? If you look at the league VERY few players stay with their original team for too long.

I think the "consequences" part of doing a project like this was the hardest part. Cause if the Bulls kept Brand and Artest then who knows how many guys they wouldn't of had (ex: Rose) and the same could be made for other teams as well.

I suggest you read a lot of old articles. ESPN has an archive. Maybe you can see what rumors has teeth. Also look at the roster for each year and determine each teams' needs.
