Re: 2k12 Community Edit for Xbox 360
Just wanted to briefly give everyone an update on my involvement with the project. I'm currently going through each team roster and making sure that contracts/salaries, jersey numbers are correct for all teams and players. Of what I have seen players who were free agents, unsigned draft picks and/or draft pick players along with CAPS added to rosters, those contracts are not accurate (some going as far as being off the charts). I usually have three sites that I reference when looking at salaries and one of them is being updated with the 2011-12 salaries through the 2016-17 season and it includes any (incentives, trade kickers) that players have in their contracts. I believe that those incentives, trade kickers and little tidbits are important especially in association mode where when making trades you have to follow certain guidelines especially if you are playing with a team who has little or no cap room to work with.
Just to show you an example, I am going to use Tracy McGrady. Tracy McGrady signed a 1 year deal with the Hawks for the Veteran Minimum. The minimum salaries differ depending on the players experience. McGrady's total salary this season is $1,352,181 for a veteran with 10 years or more experience, but as him minimum salary contract is for only one year, but he has two or more years experience, the Atlanta Hawks are "ONLY BILLED" an amount equal to the salary of a two year veteran.
What that means is that the Atlanta Hawks are only responsible for and pay McGrady $854,389. The NBA pays McGrady the difference $497,792. So I have edited McGrady's contract from $1.35M to $854K, because that is the amount that the Hawks have been charged to their salary cap. Now that $497,792 could make a difference if trying to use him in a trade.
Now for example, Jason Collins who also signed with the Atlanta Hawks for 1 year, is also a player with 10 years or more experience so the Hawks are only charged $854,389 and the league pays Collins the rest and his total salary is $1,352,181. Now here is where the little tidbits come in...Collins because he signed a one year deal will have Bird rights at the end of the season (because a player receives his Bird rights after playing 3 consecutive seasons for one team) so Collins can "VETO" any trade he is part of. Now since he can "VETO" any trade he is part of I have edited his contract to where he has a NO TRADE CLAUSE because only two players (Kobe, Nowitzki) have No Trade Clauses in their contracts, but if they approve a trade they are involved in that no trade clause is lifted, so the same does go for Collins.
So it's those little things that for some like myself and I have been talking daily for three weeks now to vtcrb that those things should be included into this roster set to (a) give all of you the real feel of being a GM for your team and (b) be different from other roster sets.
Also, so far in the roster set there are 24 CAPS. I have expressed to vtcrb that before we release an official roster that we add "26" more CAPS that I have listed that are currently (a) in the d-league (b) were training camp invites and cut (c) undrafted rookies. The reason behind this idea is because once you start your associations if a team signs a player that is not in the roster set and to be as accurate as possible you don't want to download an updated roster and start ALL over again in your association I suggested that by either creating or downloading CAPS already made for those "26" players and putting them in the free agent pool that we have now given to all of you "possible" players that could be called up or signed already in your roster set that you can simply go to the free agent pool and sign WITHOUT starting your association all over again.
The most notable example I gave to vtcrb is Malcolm Thomas. Thomas was invited to the Lakers training camp, and was the last player to be cut and then went back to the d-league and was playing for the L.A. Defenders. Just a few days ago, the Spurs signed Thomas. There is a CAP of him on 2kshare that we can download and edit to match our roster set and you all who use the Spurs will have Malcolm Thomas and if he is cut in 3 weeks all you do is cut him and he goes back into the free agent pool.
It's my opinion that to play the Association mode in 2K you have to be able to put as many options there for us as "users" because once you start you can't add/delete players from your roster set without starting over.
Now back in November I downloaded this roster set that they put out in November and also vtcrb Draft Class. I wanted to start an Association while the lockout was going on and if/when the lockout ended and we had a season I would just create another Association and have 2 that I would play with. Well I just finished up my first season of my association and all the player movement that took place in December up to tonight, I will make in the off season after the playoffs. My team is the Lakers, so yes Shannon Brown, Lamar Odom were on my roster (and yes, both will be on the Suns and Mavericks in the off season), but I finished 57-25, 1st in the Western Conference and just got out of a tough first round series against the #8 Nuggets who took me to seven games. Now in the second round I'm taking on the #4 seed Golden State Warriors (who eliminated the #5 seed Los Angeles Clippers in the first round).
Once we have officially released this roster I will start an Association with it and keep both separate.
I'm sorry if this is a long post, but I wanted to let everyone know what my involvement was to the project and to let everyone know that I hope that the ideas that I shared with vtcrb will catch your attention and provide you with an even more realistic experience with NBA 2K12. I also hope that many of you share my view on not wanting to start your Association mode all over again because of a simple player being signed by a team which is my main reason to include "26" more CAPS that could possibly be in the NBA.
Any questions or comments, please feel free to leave me a message. I am a night owl so I am usually doing my portion of this project throughout the night, but I'm also in my 17th year as a high school varsity basketball coach and we just started league so after going about 2-3 days without sleep I usually will be out for 24 hours straight sleeping recharging lol.
Thanks everyone for the feedback you give to the others involved with the project and I hope that once it is released that your 2K12 experience is a great one.Eaglerock562

Man, this kinda reminds me of waiting on the NBA negotiations - all that anticipation.
Except I have a lot more confidence in the outcome here and there are no rich *******s involved.
Thanks for all your continued hard work, guys!

Re: 2k12 Community Edit for Xbox 360
Wow, I've thought that this should be done in 2k12 for a long time now. Finally, a roster that has pretty much everything I've wanted since day 1. So now I can actually put players that are in the D-League, in the 2k12 D-League (on top of the randomly generated ones)! Thank you guys for the work on this roster! Can't Wait!
Let's say for example you want to put Gerald Green on the D-Fenders cause that is where he is currently. Now I assume the only way to do this is to (a) sign him to a minimum contract with the Lakers (b) then send him down to the d-league and most importantly (c) make sure there is room on the roster.
The problem with "a" is that having the Lakers sign him means you add $473K to their salary cap for the season, not sure how many will feel about. The problem with "b" is that I have yet to ever try this, but is there a limit to how many players you can send down from your roster? The problem with "c" is that more then likely you will have to drop one of your rookies down to the d-league in order to create a roster spot and sign said player and then drop him down to the d-league and recall the rookie you originally sent down.
I'm about to test this right now and then I will report back to all of you.
Ok, so I went ahead and started a new association just to test this out. Here is what I did step by step...
Step 1 - The Lakers roster had a full 15 players so I sent down Darius Morris to the d-league.
Step 2 - Signed Gerald Green from the free agent pool to a 1 year/$773K base contract which he gladly accepted.
Step 3 - Sent Gerald Green down to the d-league.
Step 4 - With both Green and Morris on the d-league roster that put 12 players on the roster. I then tried to send down Andrew Goudelock and the option to send down to d-league I was unable to send him down.
Step 5 - Came to the conclusion that each d-league roster can hold only 12 players.
Step 6 - Recalled Darius Morris to the Lakers roster.
So yes this does work, although it will could be a little time consuming.
**Now my original idea that I had was to make a list of all the players currently in the d-league as of a certain date and try to make CAPS for all of them and have them in the free agent pool and then put on d-league rosters. The problem though 2-3 teams are assigned to each d-league except for those teams (Lakers, Spurs, Cavaliers. Thunder, Rockets, Knicks, Wizards) that own and operate their own exclusive team. So for example Jerome Randle has played for 2 d-league teams this season so far. He played 1 game for Texas and is currently now on the Maine Red Claw roster which he has played 7 games starting 3. Now the Red Claws are the d-league affiliate for the Celtics, Bobcats and 76ers, so in order to take Randle from the free agent pool and onto the Red Claws roster you would have to decide which of those 3 teams is going to sign and send him down (remember though, no other team can sign him from the d-league cause he already signed a contract with the team that you sent him down from).**
Let me have some feedback on what you guys think, is that to much work? Would you want the option and have those players included and it will depend on the user who downloads the roster to make those transactions? Or is this trying to do WAY to much for 2K12?
**Major Update on this situation**
Apparently you can't have no more then 2 players that are on your active roster down in the d-league. So for a team like the L.A. Defenders, Gerald Green, Elijiah Millsap, Brandon Costner, Courtney Fortson, Orien Greene and Mardy Collins...all those players either have a CAP or have the possibility of being called up, but in the game only 2 of them can be down on the d-league after you have signed them. So for teams that own their own d-league team and have more then 2 players down there that could be called up you will have to pick and choose which ones you want to have down there and the others remain in the free agent pool.Last edited by Eaglerock562; 01-14-2012, 05:59 PM.Eaglerock562

Re: 2k12 Community Edit for Xbox 360
Well, no big deal that I can't send them all down. As long as some of the better d leaguers are in the game (Free Agent or in D League), I'm a happy camper."Lamar Jackson is like when we would get too good at the NCAA Football video game and win every game even on Heisman"Comment

What if after you sign a D-League player like Green for the minimum but change his contract about to the $0 so it wont count against the team capComment
