It's preventative really. I've got a spinal injury, and that comes with some health complications. One of them has to do with my teeth (the calcium has been slowly leeching out for decades, despite fastidious oral hygiene on my part), which are in the process of being replaced with full implants (a painful process). One of the implant screws is suspected to have some infection and they want to blast me with antibiotics and nip it in the bud as an infection up in the upper jaw can very quickly go from relatively harmless to life threatening.
So, I'll be getting blasted with a ridiculous amount of antibiotics for a week or so, and endure a bunch of blood draws and at least two bone scans. I'll get a couple years worth of radiation exposure in the next week or so heh.
It will be unpleasant but far better than the possible alternative.
