Saving them isn't a bad idea.
Thought process is, people feel complacent in top 20 that their spot won't be lost. You can blitz them by picking up speed in the late goings to overtake them when they don't have the ability to play games twice as quickly and maintain their spot.
Draw back is, make sure you can use them all. Saving 200 hot streaks and mis-timing and only getting to use 75 won't do you a whole lot of good.
The argument against saving them is, put enough distance between yourself and the competition now to discourage them from feeling like they can make an impact later... with a timed late game rush.
Regardless, slow and steady wins the race... remember that =p
Things will look a lot differently in the top 20 come Sunday than they do now. My advise is to establish a threshold for what the top 20 scores will look like and pace yourself to get in.
