I think the current system makes the most sense. To get the best cards you need either a lot of money or a lot of time. The rest of us just have to deal with whatever is in between, and it does seem fair that the best cards should be limited and not handed out easily.

My only complaint would be that there isn't much use for the best cards, besides just an ego boost. Their only advantage is in season mode, where it doesn't matter anyway since the reward is just a random epic that most won't care for. And it seems like it's actually detrimental to use the best cards in rivals or quick games since it just pairs you up against insane decks.

If they're going to make these cards so hard to obtain, there should be a good incentive to get them besides just to look pretty or show them off

I'm not going to compete for the top 20 spots anymore. I'll just stick with top 50, an epic pack may be a better reward if I get a 2nd 98 MJ or Elgin baylor

Useful tips for quick games/rivalry games...

You can win 85% of your matches at the top level relatively easily.

Use 2 common burner cards in your lineup, Make 1 of the commons level 10 with balanced stats. If you us pro versions of these cards you may effect the matchmaking and diminish the usefulness.

Use 2 common support cards, that target combo bonus and don't overlap one another.

For your cards, pick cards with a clear edge in category. Defense/BC - BC/MG - OFF/BC. Your last card should be a very well balanced card.

I personally use:
Oscar Robertson/Wilt Chamberlain/Evan Turner Pro
or
Paul George Unmaxed Pro/ Stephen Curry/ Elgin Baylor Rare Pro


Strategy is: TAKE EVERY GAME TO OVERTIME

^give the opponent the 1'st and 3rd game, unless you lose the 2nd round. In which case play out the game with the intention to win. Others use a common strategy and if they do the CPU will play their commons at the end.

1st round - use a burner (computer will always play best card here or 3rd)
2nd round - best card for round
3rd round - use a burner (computer plays best card here)
4th round - best card for round
Overtime - use best card for round

In the event that the cpu takes round 2, than round 3 and 4 must be your best cards available and save your burner for overtime. Many times the other player has a similar sandbag strategy with commons and will be left to go against your leveled up common w/ a menial support card. If the common you selected is decent (Norris Cole) and partnered with a support that helps it. You will win.

for a reference point, think of an opponent like this.

Legendary Jordan (CPU will play in Round 1 or 3)
Legendary Lebron (CPU will play in Round 1 or 3)
Rare Pro Jason Kidd
Rare Pro Thaddeus Young
Epic Jerome Kersey

Meaning that if you have some decent cards of your own and 2 burners, just hand rounds 1 & 3 over and use your best cards to win the game for yourself.

Well i won't be be playing for the top 20, i have 3 tests next week so gotta study. i just drafted epic Byron Scott. should i tank to drop low or epic pack.

This has mostly been my strategy too. Except ironically I found the tank 1/3 strategy less effective for me than regular quick games when facing 5 pters. Mainly my center (high def and mg) gets caught too much waiting if I completely ignore 1/3. And my Jason Kidd pro basically never loses. So I basically challenge any reasonable category. It kinda feels good to actually win non overtime again (well last thousand or so games). I think a lot depends on your lineup and just get a feel for what wins. I use Jason Kidd, Anderson v, and dion waiters as my all arounder (who generally is going after offense category. As a whole offense is almost always the weakest stat in most lineups)

I get away with the Wilt at my round 4 spot because of his ultra high defense and mental game, however he will lose outright to a couple other legendaries at defense alone sometimes.

The method can be used to only drop 1 round, but you win more often if you hand over 2 easy rounds. On occasion I'll see that the round is calling for something like Defense & Mental Game and i'm tempted to plug in wilt, but that's when I usually walk right into the Pro Bill Russel's floating around out there lol.

I have another line-up I want to try in
Chris Mullins, Unmaxed Pro Paul George, Rare Pro Elgin Baylor.

They are very balanced, and I might be able to improve on my ratio if I make the switch... gonna experiment a bit with the supports and find the sweetspot in what I can use. Currently using 2 common's doesn't do me a lot of good but getting an epic Offense/Defense/Ball Control would be very helpful I think.

On the topic of epic supports, I have now drafted 7 or 8....

With my nearly 20,000 draft selection sample at around 11% likelihood of a card drawn being support, I should now have 77-88 epic players on my bench.

I've thought about doing it that way. I just go the opposite route with what are my best cards. I feel like I win at a pretty darn good clip its just with something like rivals I don't have the amount of time needed nor maybe some of the other ways folks are getting there.

wow...my record is now 15060-2491 and I just got the last rare in the collection. This is not pro mind you. For he longest time I had not even seen Boozer or Paxon but I finally got both (Boozer a couple days ago) and Paxon just now.

Amazing how it took that long. lol
