I dont know if these comments were kind of directed towards mine when I said he wasn't close to Melo, but if they are, I don't hate the player or person at all. I think what he did was awesome for himself, I hate the bandwagon and perception people put on him, not Lin himself.

I mean, almost beating out Chris Paul for starting all star PG? That's just ridiculous.

In my opinion, Lin is better than people say he is. His defense isn't great, & his ball handling is avg (remember how Chalmers & Cole embarrassed him when Miami played NY during linsanity. He could barely get the ball across half court). but he's a pretty good 3pt shooter (36%) & a great P&R passer. But it's kind of hard to display those kind of strengths when you play with James Harden & Kobe..

Just like with most players, I think its more lack of opportunity than skill. His shooting avgs & ast/to ratios are still the same, but his opportunities have been cut in half. Give him 15 shots/game & primary ball handling duties like he had in NY & he can avg 18/7 easily

You're spot on with defense isn't great, cuz his best DPM(defensive plus-minus) when playing atleast 35 games in a season (cuts out an outlier in GSW) is 0.1 and all the rest are negative. For reference, last year James Harden's DPM was -0.5 and Lin has had two seasons worse than that. Yeah.

Other than Lin's huge spike in limited games in NYK when his AST% jumped to 41.0(which was pretty good, better than Curry's ever been, but hes an overrated passer anyways) his highest AST% has been 29. Jose Calderon (in his spot in NYK now) has only ever had 2 seasons with a worse AST%.

Lin's True Shooting % while in NYK (it's dropped since) is only 3% higher than Rajon Rondo's best year. Not exactly a shooter. D.J. Augustin has had one season better and one season almost tied, to bring in some reference.

You say great P&R passer, and while there's no real advanced stat for that, there is Turnover%. Lin's absolute best TOV% of 17.8 (which came in 29 games for GSW, his one for the knicks season is atrocious at 21.4) would be the absolute worst TOV% in a season in the careers for CP3, Damian Lillard, Stephen Curry, James Harden, Derrick Rose, and would tie D.J. Augustin (to bring another about average PG into the mix).

You also state a lack of opportunities for his decline, but though he did fall off from a 28% usage rate to 20.6-20.8 since NYK, his USG% isn't bad at all. It's just a few percentage points off of 5 of Chris Paul's seasons.

You really can't defend Lin as being anything better than an average PG.
He really shouldn't even start for most teams in the league.

Well. I started in leg ++and was counting. Got to roughly 120. Then moved up to star. Stopped counting because of transition. Then it was 4-5 days I think. Wanted to get it before rc. Gotta drop for +5
