So, instead of using 20 uncommons to train a ultra rare. I should put 19 uncommons into 1 uncommon then put the trained uncommon into the ultra rare?
    MLB: Cincinnati Reds
    NFL: Indianapolis Colts
    NBA: Indiana Pacers
    NCAA: Purdue Boilermakers

If I'm reading things correctly - no. You should always train directly into the card you want to train if you can. I only was using this method during Rivals Clash to train up for the cards I will ultimately win.

BTW guys - if XP is based on the level of the card not on the rarity, why does a level 25 rare only train to level 22 on UR?

      Thanks

Cixelsyd23 is right, you should not.

Info: When using an already trained card to train another one, the trained Card gets the Base XP + 60% of the cumulative XP the Card had.

See above. You lose 40% of the card's XP value when you use it to train another card.
