Yea I think I only have 2 stars total in the LU, but 4 of my po pros have self abilities only which I'm sure is holding me back but I need them to win.

Noob question...If my card is in the right spot does that increase the chance that his buff goes off? Or is the only thing that affects it the 5% increase?

Doesnt affect anything

The only sure thing you get is the 5% if played in the right position.

I'm not sure but I think the chance of the ability activating doesn't matter if your player is out of position. I think it's been confirmed that the higher the tier of the player, the higher the chance of the ability activating.
