    2K16 Card Stats Discussion

So anyone that knows me through this game, knows I'm a stickler for stat accuracy. I'd like to start up a discussion, early, just to get people's opinions on stats.

I know it's early, everyone is working through different tiers, and some of the game's mechanics still don't make 100% sense to everyone yet, but how are people feeling about base stats so far?

Do we have an idea of the stat ranges? Are they homogeneous like last year? Do they vary more? How do we feel about specializations? Are there any cards that just scream "wrong", at this early stage?

    Let's discuss.

    Re: 2K16 Card Stats Discussion

For me, personally, there are some things I like, and other things I don't like too much.

    Specializations

Maybe they changes this, or maybe I just misunderstood from the beginning, but I was under the impression that we were going to be able to select which stats we wanted to have a card specialize in. Maybe I got it mixed up with stat charging.

I'm not a huge fan of random specialization. In my eyes, either CD should set it per card, or we should be allowed to choose where we want it. Getting a Steph Curry card with REB specialization just isn't cool.

    Stat Ranges

Without a comprehensive spreadsheet, which I'm sure is still some time away, I can't speak definitively on this, but I know I have a Foil LaMarcus Aldridge card that tops out as only 4 points better than my regular Russell Westbrook. What that says to me is that Westbrook just must be way better than LMA on a base level. I like this. Even though it seems like my Foil freebie is a relatively bad card, I thoroughly enjoy the fact that it's a possibility. Last year sorely lacked variety.

    Foil

Not sure how I feel about this yet... on the one hand, it seems like a fun little differentiator. On the other hand I see potential to be annoyed by not getting good foil cards.

Also, getting Common Foil hasn't stopped being the most annoying little tease. They kinda resemble last year's Star cards, but then you realize that.... no.

Now, it wouldn't be right if I didn't have at least one card to complain about.. and it also wouldn't be right if that card wasn't Russell Westbrook.

Now, I have to say that CD did a MUCH better job with Russ, just by allowing him to actually wjn categories in this game. They're just not the right ones...

On this card, Westbrook's lowest stat is offense.

Russell Westbrook is the reigning NBA scoring champion. That's not to say that I believe Russ is the best scorer in the league, and should have the highest stat (I still put KD, Melo, and Harden over him.. probably others too), but it definitely shouldn't be his lowest stat. Also, despite somehow not having this reputation.. Russ played horrible defense last year.

The card breaks down in a cascade, going from PM>REB>DEF>OFF.

Russ is an excellent rebounder from the PG spot, but he's definitely more of a scorer than a rebounder. To me, the card should break down like OFF>PM>REB>DEF.

Still... it's a huge improvement from last year, wherein his card could win zero stats.

I like the direction so far. I haven't sat down and really combed through this stuff yet, but these are my first impressions.

Great post. In my opinion, overall the stats displayed are way better than last year but there is still room for improvement.

Let's start with the pros :

I like that cards are different from one another, even if I feel the gap between how points are splitted could still be increased to have REAL specialists. Sometimes I think somes cards (like Richard Hamilton) are too "all around".

Other positive aspect : I don't think any category has a definitve edge over another.

Nevertheless, I think some cards have stats that don't represent the players correctly. As you stated, Westbrook is a perfect exemple. I'll try to post some more examples later on.

Also, I'm not sure yet if there is a real hierarchy between players within a same tier? For example, are LBJ's total stats way higher than let's say Yao Ming's ones?

As for Spec, I enjoy the idea , even if it's somewhat frustrating when you get the worse possible one for a player you like (i.e I have Drexler specialized in reb and it's still his lowest stat.)

Gotta touch on Joe Dumars quickly also.

This was another card I felt like CD got absolutely wrong last year, by making it basically an Offense only card.

This new card is basically perfect. High offense, higher defense... decent, but not amazing PM. That is Dumars. A+

I think there is definitely an increase in pro stats, couple of my SR Pros have reached into the 400 offence range in some cards in comparison to 2k15 where SR - MJ the best SR was around 350 offence if I'm not wrong? so that's good to see! It's a step up anyway

Hold on.. So it turns out I'm an idiot.

I thought Foil cards had an overall stat boost. I didn't know it was just that they had an extra specialty.

So my "thought" on Foil cards, and on stat homogeneity are both wrong.

              That sucks.

probably about later in the game CD would release a "specialization change" card that costs credits. makes sense in a business perspective. so you could change specialization on cards you feel have the wrong spcializations.

It would but would also, makes the games less thrilling. i would so buy some though. With that my Drexler would become an off monster.
It would boost sale in AH cause I didn't buy some cards of player I love juste cause their specializations didn't feel right to me.

                    We're any cards updated?

I'm looking at AD now, and he seems to have the highest defense (that I've seen at least), and I feel like that wasn't the case before.

                      Just a quick update here...

I have pretty different thoughts on card stats after a month with the game. I'm gonna add a post to this a little later, if anyone cares lol.

I care. It's not a subject that I have strong feelings toward, but your analysis regarding stats in last year's app were pretty much spot on.
