    Re: NBA 2k12 PC Impressions.

Played three games this evening. All defaults in "The Greatest" modes in my quest to unlock all the teams.

    Game 1: Bulls vs Hornets

This is a tough Charlotte team, Alonzo is unstopabble and Curry does.not.miss. I had to play off ball whenever Curry was in the game because my AI defenders are worthless when it comes to screens he comes off of. He was open everytime with his defender and a post defender both stuck on one Charlotte player. Of course, that just meant they stopped going to Curry and I would get killed by someone else, like Johnny Newman of all people.

I did manage to eke out a 4 point victory though, so yeah yeah, yay.

    Game 2: Rockets vs Nuggets

I thought I'd have an easy time with this one, just dip it down to Olajuwon in the post and get my cheese on. No go. They denied almost every pass down low to the Dream and when I did get the ball to him, I ended up forcing some very bad shots. His percentage was down and I had to look elsewhere for my points, namely Sam Cassell (who's fadeaway is butter) and the Jet. I couldn't get Maxwell or Horry going though Eli did provide about 5 points off the bench.

On the other side of the ball though, it was no contest. Abdul-Rauf and Rodney Rogers completely abused me. I couldn't stay in front of Rauf to save my life and Rogers was money in the paint no matter what strategy I tried to use. If I double-teamed, he would kick out to the perimeter and I would get punished. If I kept one defender on him, he'd just make em' look silly.

    I lost by 12.

Game 3: Lakers vs Celtics (Kareem)

Nothing much to say except I ran Boston out of the building. From the first quarter to the last it was nothing but Showtime. Kareem's skyhook is unstoppable and even though I could have easily cheesed with him, it was too much fun driving with Magic and dishing to cutters.

    I won by 13.

Game 4: Pistons vs Bulls (Zeke)

Awesome game! This was a classic classic Pistons-Bulls game. The Jordan Rules were in effect. I beat him up every time he got the ball. Kept Dumars and Rodman on him and he had to pass the rock or throw up bricks. They got up on me by 10 early in the third but I kept at it and with 40 seconds or so left in the game, Zeke hit Joe D. in the corner for a sweet midrange jumper to put me up by one.

Last possession of the game, I'm still up by one, they go to the man....John Paxon. Dude stood at the top of the key and dribbled the ball for 15 seconds. He hit Zeke up with a hesitation and pulled up from the top of the key, nothing but net, buzzer sounds.

    I lose.

Still, had a lot of fun tonight. The game plays really smoothly although I do have my troubles staying in front of ball handlers. When they make any kind of move my player's momentum just goes foolish and I am taken out of the play a lot. I have some hope though later on when I play with the sliders I'll be straight. Still, for everything out of the box this game plays great.
    PS: You guys are great.

Yep seeing those micro freezes multiple times a game.

I can't play defense. I literally can't. I'm getting schooled by every team. I'm trying to stay in front, use the right stick and not commit to blocking shots too much. I'm mixing up defensive strategy, throwing in the occasional zone and press and I'm still losing by an average of 15 points each game...... On Pro.

Best sports game I've ever played? Undoubtably.

Most frustrating sports game I've played? Sadly, yes. I've put in about 20 hours now and I'm wondering when the fun is going to start.

Thanks to 2K for creating a brilliant sim and for listening to the hardcore. I'm just depressed that I'm useless at this game!

Time to move down to rookie I suppose...

lower the game speed to 45 and play the game this way learning the cpu moves and behaviors on the court - it'll play slower but not slow, you would have more time to react to fakes, crosses, direction changing

when you feel comfortable move the speed slider up

Thanks man. I'll try that. I like that it's hard but find the fact that any user error is instantly punished frustrating. Especially on Pro. Staying in front of your man is really tough with the movement system 2K has.

I'd say you have to learn to feather the stick and push your guy to help. If its a really good ball handler, you shouldn't be able to stay with him easily.

                      Re: NBA 2k12 PC Impressions.

Thanks for trying to help. Its not really working though. I came home from work today and tried all of the suggestions you guys have been giving me and also zeroed the clutch sliders and upped the defensive assist to 100. I still lost to the Kings. So now I'm 1-5 in my Bulls franchise. My one victory being a win against the Mavs, wierd...

It just might not be my year. I find this game to be amazingly deep, incredibly well built and is obviously a labor of love for those who have designed it. In my humble opinion its just far, far too hard on the lower levels.

I have zero issue with the game being difficult once you dial the difficulty past allstar but on Pro I should not be wanting to smash my controller into little pieces and put my foot through my monitor after 20 hours of practise.

I'm just wondering at what point I should raise the white flag and stop playing. Gaming for me is stress relief and all this game is doing is giving me a headache and putting me in a bad mood.

                        Re: NBA 2k12 PC Impressions.

I think the game is great. It's my first upgrade since 2K9 and it looks like this come has come a long way. Great job 2K !

I love to play in coach mode, and call the plays. I'm more of a GM kinda guy than a player. One problem i have encountered is the game won't begin in Coach mode after i go into a game althought it's saved everywhere as Coach mode "ON"

Other settings not saving are the music that i keep at 10. There must be a way to save this settting outside of the association, playoffs etc. i know i've tried but they don't stick which is a bummer, but not a game killer.

The historical teams are a blast. I set up an elite Playoff bracket and the '86 Celtics won it all sweeping the '86 Bulls and Dr J's sixers , before knocking out Shaq's '95 Magic in 6, and winning it all in 5 over the '71 Milwaukee squad.

                        Love it 10+

                          Re: NBA 2k12 PC Impressions.

don't get me wrong, gamepay offline is awesome and it's a lot of fun playing against my buddies. but that's pretty much it. other than that the pc version is just horrific and to be honest, i already regret that i spent 30 bucks on it.
it's not just that you can't get any sort of online game going (online asso not working AT ALL for pc, pc-users can't add friends, quick games are a mess), no , even the so praised offline modes like myplayer and association are so far off from an actual nba experience it's not even funny anymore.
right now i have a very hard time motivating myself for this game. not to mention about 60 people in my online league community who don't even bother to buy this game because they took out normal online leagues (WHY? GOD WHY?) and lobbies.

i can't speak of the console versions of the game but right now, this game is nowhere near finished and i would recommend nobody to buy this game. it's just not fun at all. even if you are more into offline gaming.

i play simulated basketball now for about 11 years, but not once in those 11 years i was so disappointed like i am this year.

i would love to write something more positive about the game, but that's just how i see it.

You're coming across as borderline trolling right now.

don't get me wrong, gamepay offline is awesome and it's a lot of fun playing against my buddies.
                            Then:

it's just not fun at all. even if you are more into offline gaming.
This contradicts everything that you've written... the gameplay is awesome and a lot of fun... yet it's not fun at all even if you are more into offline gaming, which coincidentally you have said is the most fun part.

If you have an agenda against the game, drop it here with this one post and move along.
