    Better video card worst performance?

    Hey guys

    I upgraded my GTX 260 to a 6950 2gb DDR3 card.

My game gets better FPS, but it still stutters a bit when playing. Not sure what it is but, it seems not as smooth anymore. I did not change any settings but it still seems a bit slower. I updated the graphics card drivers when I got the card. I re did the benchmark test as well..

    Any other ideas?

Re: Better video card worst performance? FIX

I had the same problem with my 6870. I decided to live with it but oneday while goofing about, i maxed out all settings in Catalyst, just to see what NBA2k12 would look like.... and Voila!!! the game actually played SMOOTHER than ever before!!!

so i guess the trick is to max out all 3D settings in your catalyst driver. AA, AF, tessell, Everything. Doesnt make sense, but it works for me.

......and other games play smoother too. its crazy.

I think it is more a issue with my TV. Since on my monitor it works fine..
but that wont hurt, doing it now. And i'll let you know results.

This is something I noticed on my Fifa12 game. There seems to be a problem with stuttering with ATI chipsets. I know that I had a H5770 stock in this PC ( HP HPE-250f) and had stuttering issues with 2k11. As soon as I downgraded to the GTX260 that I now have in it, the issues went away. Maybe it's a driver issue that a newer Catalyst, meaning not yet written, can fix. But I thought maybe this is a persistent issue with multiple titles based on this setting I found. Hope that helps.... Brian

That freaking sucks... I think I may need to return this card for something else... I am uninstalling my software AMD software and if all else fails look else where.

Yeah, I feel you. I actually love AMD products. A lot more bang for the buck vs. NVidia. I bought this card and swapped out the stock ATI for an ill-fated PC to PC capture project. But now I need at least a Nvidia 4 series or HD5770 to run my new version of Sony Vegas (11) with Hardware Acceleration. so I can run games smooth but need to get a new card for my video projects. Why can't everthing ever just work out right? I think I'm gonna try and find a GTX 460 as cheap as possible. Seems to be the best of all worlds; price, performance and smooth gameplay....

              I love Vegas.

I want to play BF3 full settings on my HD tv. lol... I saw the 2gb and that is what had me pick it up. I want to future proof is as much as possible.

              FRUSTRATION.

Yeah, I've used Vegas a ton over the last 24 months. Paid $399 for it. (9) (wife's a teacher...) I get to upgrade to 11 for $149 for a hard-copy. But I'm thinking asbout getting this card, it's got pretty good reviews....

I have ATI and logging into the games online section (even if you just pick a date of birth under 13 years old) got rid of the stutter for me.

                    Are you serious?

I'm getting rid of this card. I didn't have to do none of this with my old card.

I have the exact same video card and have the exact same problem. Forcing vsync through CCC or third party software can help, but in my experience, it still doesn't consistently play well for whatever reason. I really have no idea why it happens, but it seems specific to AMD cards (maybe even specific to 6950 cards, who knows).

In any case, I'll let you know if I find a workaround.
Just out of curiousity - How does your card do with other games?

I am downloading bf3. and I'm having issues w/ GTA4 as well. I'm getting rid of this card. PRONTO. Too bad I did like the 1 gb of video ram. For that price range 2gb what else could I get?

I just did a test I panned the camera around in circles and it shuttered halfway around the person.

so did the "max all catalyst settings" thing work with your 2k12??

.... and i also experienced the same issues with Fifa 12 too. Its most def a driver issue. AMD is dropping the ball these days. ....talk about that "N/A AA Quality setting" in NBA 2K games. sucks!

I'll give it one more try. installing Catalyst 3d. If not.. uninstalling returning and sending the card back. Going to look for a new card.

Does the DDR3 Ram matter? This is the only card i saw with 2gb. Does it really matter that much?
