I bought a physical copy for the PC, but I can't remember the last time I used my optical drive for a game. Don't like it one bit.

I just checked UPS and my copy is on the truck out for delivery. UPS guy comes by work around noon, so looks like an extra long lunch for me today...I'm just glad we are slow right now...

Might be a stupid question, but does the disc spin the entire time when playing from optical drive or is it like installing it on the 360? Never played a computer game from the optical drive before...if so I will be getting digital download when it goes on sale for cheap.

Disc should only spin during game boot-up, to verify that it's the original one. Game is fully installed, so it shouldn't need the disc at any other time, unless 2K implemented random disc checks while you're playing the game.

Called everywhere I could think of yesterday, trying to find a disc version for PC. No luck. Didn't really want to wait another two days (Prime shipping) to get it from Amazon. I also just do not like the idea of having to keep the disc in the tray.

So, I did the only thing I had the option left to do (no, I didn't pirate it). Picked up a XBox360 copy. Can't wait two more weeks for the DD. So, you win 2K. I got thirsty for the game and settled for the (more expensive) console version, and to top it off, I'm 101% sure I will in fact buy the DD in the near future(probably during the next Steam sale).

For whoever gets their PC copy during the day today, impressions would be much appreciated. If its a real disaster I won't open my PC copy and return it for the 360 version.

2K12 was my first time playing NBA 2K on PC...had the 360 version originally and downloaded the PC version for $10 in April. I immediately traded in the 360 version, the PC version was that awesome...although I did get it after the late patch and other problems had been fixed.

If this game is as much of a mess of PC in the beginning as people on here claim, then I'm not sure its worth the hassle....I could just get it down the road on Steam sale and rock the 360 version until then.

I will beable to give some impressions of the game on pc, but it will be later today/tonight. If someone else doesn't do it, I will let you know.

Mainly the following:

1. Is the disappearing scoreboard bug present?

2. Is the PC version still lacking self-shadowing? How is the performance?

3. Is the online a mess like previous years?

I should have the game when I get home from work. I will check here to see if anyone has updated with impressions or bugs...if not I might just crack it open.

@Mbalmer - If you have had access to the console versions as well I would love to know if it plays the same i.e. are the responsiveness of the controls and the CPU AI up to par with the other versions?

Did the exact same thing...traded in some games, and preordered yesterday, picked up at midnight. Totally worth it, and I'll pick up the pc version when mods start coming out

I shouldn't even comment because I have played 1 5min quarter with the celtics against the Nuggets, and I am blown away by the graphics...I am running at 120fps and only using around 55% of my gpu.

The controls feel better then the demo on 360 felt to me...I don't have the retail version for a console, and don't plan to...

"self shadowing" refers to the feature present in the console version where the player models cast shadows on themselves dyna,ically thus increasing the level of visual fidelity.

Sadlly these shaders have been ommited from the PC version of 2K12, and judging from what I have heard- 2K13 as well.
It is a shame. but as long as the versions play the same I do not mind as much

Okay, can't remember seeing the self-shadowing, but that isn't a reason to not get this on pc...the game looks awesome.

You will be happy with the controls.
