I think what's the confusion is that people think that we are blaming Leftos. I know I don't. But I do blame a shift in philosophy that seems to be occurring with Visual Concepts. I still don't blame guys like Jao or Leftos. But I am still not liking how VC is such a part of the game. Its like NBA Farmville. For the record, I don't like how Fifa has put so much effort into FUT. It's a money grab in my book, as well. So I'll even bemoan how my uberlove is prostituting itself. But, I get it. Now I am glad to see serious talent getting hired at Visual Concepts. All of thses guys are very, very gifted. And they have paid dues. Kudos to them. But the topic at hand is Vlad's tool, which is in "negotiations." If that is a direct result of the hiring or those guys, and the attention that was brought by it, big bummer. And big thumbs down for 2k not turning a blind eye to it.

You already set modding back big time in the name of making a better core game. Cool! But we still want the ability to make "awesome." If squashed, it reeks of heavy handedness, and gives a lot more weight to the theories that VC is turning into the same thing we always railed against with the "evil empire." Last year was not a good one for them with the community, just saying..... For mine, I think they should continue to foster a spirit of creativity in the modding community. All of their new talent just came from it.

Anyway, I can look at it like this, at the core 2k is hiring new blood (which they needed) to make it a better experience and they are going after the best, which I am feeling if the current team moves to something else, then the game is in good hands because they grabbed guys from the community who love parts of NBA2k.

Im not sure what Vlad's deal is but im sure if they didn't want modding that could've been done away with already. Vlad just got out of school just like Leftos before his hire, so they could've been looking to get someone like him for some time.

That said, I want some mods, so without melting down off speculations, I'm, hoping all goes well for us this year because their game can be even better, and no, It wouldn't prevent me from buying next years game if even more improvements to the gameplay come.

Leftos is rigHt to stand up for them....they pay his salary.

I don't see how modding and VC can coexist though. For example, if a modder givs us certain new shoes...........whilst 2K are 'selling' those same shoes in their virtual store in game etc, it doesn't seem likely they would sit back and do nothing.

A modder called Lutz normally always releases a new exe file that even improves gameplay. I remember one year he added his own rebounding physics. Obviously that type of file and being online all the time couldn't coexist also.

Personally, I just wish 2K themselves would update the art. Fix the faces that are off / give us a december art update and fix the courts. Modders would not be needed anyway if they did that...

2k needs a passionate art team. Last gen players where created and modelled by hand. They did a good job without the head scan feature. I don't know why they slacked off for next gen. If a player didn't get a head scan they have the talent to just model the heads.

Good post. See, I don't think I would buy PC if there were no dornas or stadium edits. I do like the face scans. This game is notorious for bad faces. It's halfway decent now, IMO. I hope to see some more from Lutz. His nets and rim mods were great. I modded the heck out of last years game. Every mod Cam put out, it was on my copy. This year, squat. I am trying to be diplomatic, but the reason I wanted this game was what could be done to it. Not what they've been giving us at retail. It's just raw materials..... Just sayin.....

Edit: To add a little perspective, I think of this game like PES, or Fifa. PES comes with limited teams, misnamed, poor signage, stadiums. For various reasons. Cool. Patch makes it something else entirely. Moddingway patch adds sign, faces, teams, tourneys and leagues. I get why the games are how they are. Well, mostly. (art team, anyone.....) But I've seen what they can be. And wouldn't buy the game otherwise. At least on PC, with all that comes with PC gaming. Especially at equal price points. Not blaming anyone, just keeping it real....

Well to be honest most PC players probably don't even bother with VC. How did that become a point of the discussion?

I don't think they even sell enough copies on PC to compensate for some my player mode, and to top it off 2k14 had VC involved and they weren't stopped from modding and adding shoes if they wanted.

Maybe time, I dont know. I know they didn't get a full year on the game. Its weird that people reference nba live all the time yet 2k has more faces scanned than them. Its at the point now where we lash out at whats not there than seeing what is.

I definitely am not a company defender though, im in wait and see mode with this just like others. Like I said all of this right now is speculation. The game has been out for 1 month and everybody is going nuts.

Agreed, but 2K 14 PC was basically a tokenary effort...a basic port of an old generation game...sold for $20...and not even supported (no patches).

2K15 PC is a fully fledged $60 next gen game...being supported brilliantly so far with quick patches and dev support....full online integration the same as the consoles etc etc.

I.e. A much bigger investment on their behalf.

I am just guessing, but they probably want a greater return on that investment going forward. That means VC . Modders and VC can't really coexist.

I think it's just that most people aren't pc players. The rigs cost to make. Sony has 13.5 million consoles sold and xbox1 around 10. No way there are that many 2kplayers with gaming pcs out there. Not even half.


I can definitely appreciate having a modded sports game. Someone mentioned Vlad doesn't even play he only codes to make money so he fits right into that job if that's what it is

Yeah, I posted that. Really kind of bummed me out to see him (Vlad) post that. There is a light of hope, as Greg did post. Of course, he said he is busy and doesn't know how long it will take him to put out a tool with import functions. But there is still hope. Man, I'm thinking it might be time to call it a gaming day. I played Madden and The Show with my 9 year old, and we had fun. But the funny thing is, I noticed how cruddy both games looked frame wise and texture wise. I used to have a sense of awe and wonder with these games. Now, short of super mods and super textures these PC titles offer, it's a bunch of "meh." I see games that more about fantasy modes and other creative ways to squeeze out revenue, than about photorealism and super Franchise modes. I'm glad all of the features got put in the PC version. Problem is, I only needed one, and 2k14 actually was the most fun I ever had for my gaming money. With all the mods, decent gameplay and a good Association Mode, I was in hog heaven. Now, it seems to be one big headache. Paid twice as much for half the fun. Oh well, ten years ago I bought 7 sports games a year. Now it's two. Hoping it won't be one. Oh well, PES is really great this year. It can be my other game besides Fifa if the status quo doesn't change.

Now about my negotiations.

I am sorry, but i'm not going to read all the speculations...

As all of you know, 2K produces some really cool games and working there is a dream job for most software engineers. So, when i saw the list of available vacancies, i decided to try and apply.
The negotiations began even before NBA 2K15 got released, and it was me, who initiated them. Currently we are at quite a late stage, so obviously i must think about what is good for the company and what is not; the release was put on hold, because we wanted to double-check, that the tool won't cause any potential harm. As you can see, it is eventually released.
Noone in 2K wants to intentionally prevent modding. Believe me as a software engineer, if they wanted, they would simply ecnrypt all the files or used some other cheap method, rather than spending thousands of bucks on salaries.
Leftos and Jon got hired because they are really talented people, as you could notice. They're making the best out of the game, and there is really no any hidden meaning in hiring them. As for me, i am really happy, that i can potentially join this cohort.
It is obvious, though, that once i have my hands on the game, the development of RED MC will be ceased, but the maintainance will be continued whether by me or by one of my friends.

I am sorry, that i put it in that short manner, which raised all the speculations. The above is the more detailed version of what's going on. Thank you for your attention and i will keep you updated about my status!

1) I just joined the PC community this past summer after being strictly console. I had no idea of the depth of what could be done when it came to nodding PC games. But it was right down my alley because I spent the better part of a year with a couple other guys trying to enhance NCAA Football 14(my all-time favorite game) with a few other guys on the NCAA board. So this was a gaming dream for me. I often dreamed of what it would have been like to have that game on PC with a tool like Red MC...I can't even let my mind go there lol...Anyway after stumbling upon the UBR rosters I was in heaven and was really looking forward to seeing what could be done with 2k15. But, I understand and think it's brilliant that 2k would hire dudes from this community who put time and effort into making their game great. To me that's the difference between them and EA...and I used to be a EA homer all the way.

2) I too have come to a place where I'm not allowing frame rates and such to keep me from enjoying this game. I run it on my laptop and although it may run a little slower, I used to play Madden and NCAA on Very Slow speed becUse I liked to see how each play played out on the field. I've taken that mindset with this game and I run it on high settings to enjoy the beauty of it as well. I'm pleased.
