Re: NBA 2K16 PC Impressions thread

From reading the impressions here, I feel pretty lucky. No freezes, no hard crashes (several soft ones though at random times), and generally a solid experience in terms of in-game performance (minus the occasional replay stutter and a few instances of the audio cutout).

I'm waiting for a good base roster before I dive into my beloved MyLeague, so I've been messing around with MyCareer quite a bit. Story was alright for what it was, though given that it can be viewed on 2KTV once completed, I would have preferred an evolution of what they've been doing the past couple of years and then just watch Spike's joint separately (Really don't like being called "freq" despite changing my nickname in year 2, but I digress).

    Some random thoughts:

-Presentation is sharp (minus the audio bug). I love the shows and in-game interviews, especially when it's my guy.

-Post play is fun. I've used it a bit as a big, but I'm playing as a 6'3 SG for MyCareer and I love working the high posts to get to the rim or find open teammates. I think it feels more responsive.

-Controls feel more solid, but there are still plenty of WTF moments (I've found myself getting stuck in follow-up animations that take me out of bounds. There's still a lot of overdone bumping as well IMO).

-AI seems a lot smarter on D. If I'm abusing it in any particular way, adjustments are made (double teams, tighter coverage, collapsing into the paint, etc.). Not perfect, of course, but a lot more organic in terms of game flow.

-Some of the faces are double-take worthy...which makes the ones that aren't really stand out in the worst way.

-No "My Court" for offline careers. It makes sense, given it's primary intent, but it would be nice to at least get the cosmetic part of it for offline. Oh well.

Anyway, most of my time has been spent experimenting with various careers. I'm trying to manipulate my way into being drafted by either the Rockets, Hornets, or Celtics and then I plan on sticking with whatever of those I manage to get on. I'm having fun overall. Hopefully, with the game "officially" released, some serious fixes come down soon for everyone having issues.

It's unplayable. The freezing is awful. I haven't made it through a single myfranchise game.

Re: NBA 2K16 PC Impressions thread

Last year I thought this game was 70% pure GOLD...and 30% horse sh-t. I play HoF My Career and I would have to walk away from the computer with the rigged moments in the game. The missed wide open dunks each game, the 'stupefying' of the players on your team (Lebron, Love and Irving) so they play like morons to counter your awesomeness...it went on and on. I HATE HATE HATE when I am playing a sports game but have zero control over what's happen. That was the 30% I despised.

        So now NBA 2k16.....

I will just leave Spike alone on this because enough has been said about how utterly asinine this story crap is. I cringe at thinking of having to go through it again when I start a new position player.

        PROs:
--I LOVE the blocking. It seems so much more nature and smooth.
--Year two has been fun with the other ways to earn points, vc, etc. Just have to get past year one!
--the players move more naturally which is great

Cons: the forced misses..... OMG..... I was just playing a PG. I drove past my guy and had him but 5 feet. My guy does not dunk but instead tries a layup which is bricks. Errrr....my stats are maxed... I think I can make a shot that a bad player could make 100 out of 100 times.

The PASSING SUCKS ARSE! Now...I don't mean the speed of the passes. I like that a lot. Its that the Ai can pass with impunity. They throw it ANYWHERE they wish without worry that my ai teammates (or me for that matter...) will intercept it. Over and over and over again they would just dump it down to whoever is near the basket. My guys just stand there like idiots. Fast passes...awesome...passes that can go right over your defense at any time.....BS. They better fix it.

Fast Breaks: I am playing a pg and a center in My Career. This problem is negated because I am the one who should get back first. However, for my center we get 'fast breaked' repeatedly. If its missed they fast break me and I can do nothing about it. They get cheap basket after basket because Jimmy Buckets and Rose turn into drooling fools. Its just stupid.
        C

I have finally had my fill with 2k. Between the wreck that is Spike to the intolerable passing and fixed games...I have finally had enough.

My game runs at 90 FPS (at least that's what FRAPS is saying) but I don't think it's smooth. Got some micro stutters?

Got in windows full screen, deactivated vsync but still doens't do the trick. 2k15 ran so well.. the gameplay seems amazing though

Question for you guys that play Post and play player lock or MyCareer:

In the past couple of seasons, your player would automatically go into a post animation, calling for the ball. You could not get out of this position and it often times resulted in a 3 second violation. It made playing a post player not possible for me.

            Is this still a problem?

Is mycareer the same as last year where your guy talks and acts "urban"? I seen some of the Spike Lee storyline and its basically the movie He Got Game.

Can you actually see team records, rosters, season stats during free agency selection for mycareer too? All the basic things that were completely overlooked last year

I'm playing on superstar and find very easy to do a Pick and Roll and end dunking it with the player that makes the pick. IA doesn't defend P&R very well

The emphasis on defense, and the adaptable A.I has made this game a fun experience thus far for me both online and offline. Playing online I have not experienced any lag at all, which is amazing. The controls are very responsive, which makes a world of difference.

Usually playing sports title's, I tend to fill like I'm going through the motions, but not with this one. I fill a constant chess match with the A.I. dunks, and 1's fill more rewarding, especially when executed perfectly through the offense.
                      I'm having a blast.

The My career is just a huge disappointment, but could have been better if I had a say in MY players career. The game mode is called 'My Career', but I had zero control over my career. Spike Lee told me how MY career was going to start and I couldn't do anything about it.

                        ****Spoilers****
My player was/is white, but my family was black. Okay,I can can just pretend that I was adopted...but hang on the whole story centers on my twin sister I shared a womb with. Well, there goes the immersion of the story.

The HS games were fine, and able to select my own college. Once I selected my college, I had no Idea if the games were regular season or tournament games, then the last game the announcers said it was the championship game. Oh, I guess there's no march madness or anything that makes college great.

After the last college game, there are no draft projection for my player. I thought I would be able to select my agent where each one has their own perks, not I was wrong one was selected for me. At least I could decide if I would stay in college or enter the draft. Nope, it was already decided for me I am getting drafted with no say.

Alright I'm in the NBA and put in the hard work and try to win rookie of the year. Sorry, you only get to play in 8 games in your rookie season. Plus during all the cut scenes while in the NBA they make you into an NBA superstar, with tons of money and fame. Did they forget I am a rookie, playing on a rookie contract and still coming off the bench? Why would I have my own signature shoe, 3 cars, a nice house back in NY and spending $250,000 on a friend. I'm playing for the pacers, but am back in Brooklyn during the regular season talking to my family, agent during most of the cut scenes and not practicing, seriously? My owner/GM wants me to cut ties with my friend, but I have no choice in the matter. Well, my rookie season is over, but now I am a free agent? I was drafted in the first round... Now, because of my choices (I ones Spike Lee made for me for my career) only 3 teams are interested in me. However, I get to choose those 3 teams, huh? The team most interested in me was the team the drafted me, but had told me they were going to cut or trade me, because I made bad choices for friends.

The whole story took the "My" out of "My Career". I don't feel like I am playing my own career, but taking over the career of someone else. I should have been able to decide if I was going to stay in College for 4 years or not, pick my agent, decide if I want to cut ties with my friends and family; where each decision gave a boost or penalty to certain aspects, changing the story a little. The decisions should affect salary, fans support, skill progression etc. I should also be able to play the whole rookie season, pick my hometown and nickname. Since nicknames are usually given to the player, it could be generated based on the players play through HS.

I like it when you try to clear out by swinging your elbows that sometimes you can get called for a charge for that if you hit the defender in the face or chest with your elbow. Got called for that today, elbow connected with the defender's jaw.

Looks like there was an update in Steam - seemed a bit small for anything significant. Roster update perhaps?

Yeah it's small - 87.8 MB. Don't they push roster updates through the game's frontend itself though? (At least they did in 2k15)

I'll look forward to any notes that might come out, but I have a feeling this is just to address stability issues (if it is an actual patch)

I got it last night and played a little this morning. So far I am loving it. The MYPlayer story is a bit odd but I don't mind at all. I started a GM with my Pacers and I'm trying to navigate the menu and learn it. This is my first NBA 2K since 2007 and I'm hooked on it. My graphics card is a bit old as it's an AMD 7660G but it's still smooth like a PS3 giving me a throwback feel lol.
