How's the game for offline only play?

Exactly what the title says. I haven't played an NBA game since '13 and I was considering picking up this one because of the expansion feature. But all the reviews I can find just complain about the online play. How does the offline association (or whatever they call it now) play?

I really like it. MyLeague, MyGM and MyCareer offline give you plenty to sink your teeth in. Gameplay might feel even better than online since there is less cheese.

Thanks for the reply. How does the expansion feature play out? Is it realistic or way to easy to start with a great team in season one?

My GM and My Career are guaranteed to eat up countless hours, in a good way I don't bother with online.

I buy 2k on PC because of the offline play. I don't care about online. My GM and My League are great and My Career is pretty fun but not realistic enough for me.

I play exclusively offline. Primarily MyGM if I'm managing a team through the seasons. MyLeague to control more than one team and to play the role of commissioner more than anything.

Plus with PC you can mod your version which sends the value to another stratosphere.

Offline is rewarding since there is more pure basketball moments and decisions to be found as you play. As opposed to a broken scrimmage experience shared with other users online. Whether it's 2k servers or users that exploit the game's broken systems you just find frustration and just way less basketball to get enamored over.

If the flow of the game might not be your style out of box while playing offline the sliders do a fair job at bending the game to suit a particular style. I currently have a slider set that emphasizes and encourages more physical and a slower paced game. More attempts at/near the basket and more driving. Lots of physical contact below the rim. Also turned up the slider that increases their tendency to put the ball back up after rebounds. Etc. I don't have hand checks but you can body up so I turned down the refs tendency to call blocking fouls on both user/cpu that way the defense has more tools to be aggressive and push the offense back on its toes. Competitions are fierce.

I haven't really played 2k a lot since 14 and I couldn't get immersed in 14 like I have with past versions. With 17 the freelance offenses dynamically making reads on the court finally captures running a motion system as opposed to running set plays and thats it. I definitely felt that addition was a huge change from previous versions. Never had more fun designing a playbook and assigning plays than in this year too. I got way more into the game's systems and how it works as well. I also really like what they're trying to accomplish with ACE logic. Although it shouldn't have been touted as a feature to be fair. It's logic that a user can turn on or off. The computer has it on all the time as it's essentially how it reads and reacts towards the users game plan. This will only get better over time. Defensively they need to work on some of their lingo so the settings you're changing has more context and there needs to be another degree of control there. Will probably see that addition in 18 since it's the big gripe on this years version of the game. (Half 2ks fault for not educating users on the dynamics of the defensive settings since they're so important to the player AI to perform subpar. Also half users fault for thinking these settings should be a global solution to all their defensive woes in games... Which is just flagrantly silly. You should be making adjustments through out the game with your defensive schemes and how you're utilizing press/trap/zone/double teams in your defense.) the end, I'll probably never go back to this on a console ever again. No joke. Offline and online are two separate experiences. I can get frustrated when my team isn't in rhythm but it's more chess on the court than it is dealing with a user exploiting some lag. Womp.
