The end of LIVE on PC?

This has been rumoured to be coming for a long time...

LIVE 06 will need to be made for Xbox, PS2...and XBox360...and be ready for PS3 (although, that's going to be very late in the NBA season)

With the next gen consoles bound to be determined to get every edge possible...taking the game from the PC market and getting people to invest in a XB360 makese sense from a marketing and time management point of view.

Personally, I like LIVE on the PC for the patches etc. However, if the games lives up to it's potential on the XB360...those things won't be needed anymore.

More and more games are becoming / are going to be console only. That's just reality.

E3 2005: EA Pledges Allegiance to Microsoft
    Impressions of the Juggernaut's lineup.
    by David Clayman

May 17, 2005 - Towards the middle of the Microsoft conference Senior Vice President Chief Xbox Officer Peter Moore introduced Don A. Mattrick, president of worldwide studios at EA. The two of them shared some humorous banter before they introduced Robert Gallery, an Oakland Raider All-Pro, who ran onto the stage from the audience. He made a deal with Moore, that if he could get the Raiders back into the running in the NFL, a new Xbox 360 would be delivered to his house on launch day.

Moore stated "This is the largest development commitment EA has ever made for the launch of a new console." There are more than 25 games in development and there will be at least six titles ready for the launch. These included:

    <LI>Need for Speed Most Wanted
    <LI>Tiger Woods PGA Tour
    <LI>FIFA Soccer 2006
    <LI>Madden NFL 2006
    <LI>NBA Live
    <LI>The Godfather The Game

Need for Speed Most Wanted was featured prominently with in-game footage. The other 5 titles were shown as part of a montage comprised of very short clips. What little we saw of Tiger Woods was definitely a visual upgrade from the golf games we are all used to. Woods was realistically depicted, with some fresh looking grass, sand, and other details found on the course.

    FIFA 2006
There were a few clips of FIFA mixed into the EA montage. Mainly, these shots showed players involved in quick confrontations. There were some shoving matches, slide-tackles, and a few shots on goal. The player models were quite detailed and contained very noticeable small features like freckles. The most impressive feature in this game was actually the grass. It was shown sporadically, but it was comprised of individual blades that glistened with texture.

    NBA Live
This footage of hoops looked to be in-game, but since it was part of presentation labeled as concept art, we can't be positive. The movies highlighted a full court of players tossing up the rock. The most interesting section of the footage was when the camera went in for a close up of Ray Allen (Go UCONN!) and showed individual droplets of sweat pouring down his face.

    Madden NFL 2006
The footage from Madden was the same footage first shown during the NFL draft. We've seen this artist's rendering a hundred times, but it still looks incredibly impressive. Hopefully the game shines just as brightly.

    The Godfather The Game
This game probably had the least amount of footage shown of any of the games. The camera quickly zoomed in on one character's face and displayed a quick street scene. From what we can tell the game has some very detailed character models. Marlon Brando has never looked so good in high definition.

    Need For Speed Most Wanted
While showing off their package of popular sports titles, EA slipped in a little gem for racing fans as well, introducing footage of Need For Speed Most Wanted to the world. This was the highlight of the EA presentation, showing a sizeable chunk of in-game racing footage. Combining elements from the two most popular installments of the series -- Hot Pursuit and Underground -- Most Wanted allows players to finally experience the thrill of being hunted down by the cops in addition to racing against some of the baddest players on the market today.

Most Wanted has a very noticeable difference in terms of style and presentation when compared to both Hot Pursuit and Underground. While the latter was all about the bling-bling, Most Wanted has a gritty, almost violent undertone to it. Your ride might be souped up and looking like a million bucks, but if the video was any indication, many of the areas you'll traverse are anything but. Adding the police factor definitely ups the thrill level a notch.

Sad, but true. NBA Live 2006 may be the last PC game. Good thing, is hopefully EA will let us crack everything in the last game and the PC patchers can make that game last forever. If the gameplay is solid, patchers can extend the life of the game especially if EA will let us know the code.

Do you think there will be a PC 2006 game? I really doubt it.

Can't see them releasing code...lol The whole point of taking the game from the PC market is to get the PC gamers having to buy an Xbox360.

I know your a hard core PC gamer Cocobee...so you'd be the kind of guy they'd want to "convert". If series like LIVE were dead, as likely, on PC's...would you get a next gen console?

Any word on Madden for the PC or is that gone also?

Being the tech geek that I am anyway, I will be getting x box 360 regardless. But I only play 3 PC games, Live, Madden and MVP.

To my knowledge, it looks like Live and Madden 2006 are still going to be released for the PC.

But Live (X Box, PS2, PC) will be a completley different beast from Live 360 version. I think I read that the NBA Live 360 version is done from scratch.

I think there will be a Live and Madden 06 for the PC, but I also have a hunch that it will be the last versions to grace the PC.

Yeah, I'd be interested to see that...I am not a tech guy, but i've read also that LIVE XB360 was built from scratch.

If the coding is different / what they've done on XB360 can't be done on xbox1 etc...then i guess that may mean two completely new games.

          Some interesting times ahead...

Just as a sid note for those who couldn't read between the lines with the article...

MS are offering a lot of $$$ for companies to make the games console exclusive.

The time involved in producing PC versions + extra release costs +promotional costs etc etc is considerable. The profits for PC gaming, where piracy is massive, aren't that high.

The reality is...as the next gen console wars heat up...the offers for companies like EA to make their games 'console exclusive' will be too great. That's basically the bottom line.

EA is extremely closely involved with the XB360 launch...you do the math

It is true that the 360 game is built from scrach, which is good because no ice skating and other things. It will still have the featers of the old games like freestyle, but it will be created from scratch so, they can learn from the past versions and make it really good.

Yes...it's kind of sad that the PC base + the earlier consoles will miss out on the 'new LIVE'.

However, the series has been treading water for too long. The skating...etc etc...it just held the series back way too much.

It's been clear for a while a new engine was needed.
