Impressions from EA trip
Fred and Rac from Maddennation.com / NBALivenation.com got a chance to go to EA and play a bunch of the upcoming titles. Live was one that they got a good deal of time in with, and impressions are starting to come in. Feel free to drop in and ask questions. Sounds like Live is on its way back.

Re: Impressions from EA trip
Honestly, should I even believe a word this guy says:
"-graphics are insanse. I was playing with the bulls, and told the producer that iwas pretty damn cool that ben gordon has his actual tatoo on his left arm. He said yeah we did a lot of those small details this year. he loaded up the nuggets on the next tv and showed me Melo. He has every tattoo, cornrows and even has that thin *** beard he has. For it being NBA Live on xbox before XBOX 360 comes out they really put a lot of work in the details of the game. Even the stadiums look a lot better."
if he is that exicted about tatoos, I just dont see him producing the accurate info needed, for the type of gamer that I am. -

if you know fred, hes as sim and hardcore a player as you can find. Those type of comments are just to illustrate details. When I came back from seeing Live on the 360 at E3, I mentioned that you could zoom in with the camera into a luxury box and see microwaves lol. That however doesnt negate opinions on gameplay and such.Comment

Re: Impressions from EA trip
I'm really loving the different titles of "shooter and "scorer" that players have. And the new offensive system to make any pass you want sounds like a really nice feature. Looks like we'll get 2 very solid basketball games this year.Comment

Re: Impressions from EA trip
I can see the game took a leap into the right direction, but as I've seen elsewhere, the leap was a little sloppy...
The verdict is still not drawn on whether I'll purchase this game or not...
Chances that I will Purchase:
- Madden for Current Consoles = 90%
- NBA Live for Current Consoles = 30%
- March Madness for CC = 5%
- NBA Live for Next Gen = 100%
- NBA 2K for Next Gen = 25%

But they're not journalists; they run Madden sites and are treated to an EA-hosted function. How objective do you think they're going to be given the circumstances? Anytime I see stuff from guys like that I take it with a grain of salt (more like half the salt shaker).
if you've read some of the stuff posted at MN, you would probably realize that the site is pretty objective (at least in terms of a "fan" site). One example from last night, is the slowdown on Madden's PS2 version that they experienced. Thats something right there that would tell you otherwise because it certainly is a negative. Issues arent covered up...and I think for the most part MN has a reputation for being objective (got many comments in regards to NCAA coverage before release). Now maybe not all sites are this way, but you shouldnt group every one into that category just under the assumption that they must have some sort of bias. The only bias is that yes, generally people who hang there are fans of the game. But that doesnt prevent from discussing problems.
Now I can understand taking into account the lack of time to analyze the game...as an hour and a half isnt going to display everything and for the most part people enjoy a game right off the bat. But overall it sounds good to me from what I've heard from numerous sources.Last edited by pastapadre; 07-16-2005, 10:13 AM.Comment

Re: Impressions from EA trip
1. Live '95 without names is stupid.
2. No draft class import is stupid.
3. I bet you $1 they still don't have realistic plays.
4. I will still buy this game and play the hell out of it, the way I've done since Lakers vs. Celtics.Comment

Re: Impressions from EA trip
ha, this thread is funny. As one guy stated, they are just impressions. Its not like i said the game was 100% graet. Believe what you want.
I will add, that the producer just flat out asked me what i thought of last years game. ANd i said it was ok, but it sucked for this reason, this reason, that reason. I didnt hide what i thought of the game. why should i? Because im at EA? Thats not why we are there. They bring us out there for real feedback. The stuff I pointed out were things that i had issues with in last years game and seemed to be fixed.
So i point out details like tattoos and such. Have you seen how bland and lame Live's graphics have been compared to NBA2k the past few years? seeing real detail and players shows that EA is taking a step in the right direction. Thats all i was trying to say about it.
Again, they are just my opnions. if you regularly visit MN you'll see I never sugar coat my opinions about games, and if something sucks I say it sucks regardless if its EA or not. I guess you'll just have to take my word for it. If you don't oh well. its just the internet, i wont lose sleep over it lol.Comment

One question. Is the sliding gone? Any positive features the game might have are rendered meaningless because of the ice skating.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment
