Am I the only person who believes in '06?

I can't help but feel like the pessimists are dominating this board.

After watching all of the videos I could possibly find (more than once each), I am actually quite excited for this game.

My beef with '05 was that there was little strategy beyond a certain point. For me it was fast breaks, 3-pointers, or feed the superstar and let him do spin moves and dunks. There was little variety in how one went about getting buckets and to top it all off the animations were limited and often repeated. That combined with the sub-par graphics and choppy framerate made for an enjoyable, but short-lived experience.

Along comes '06 and it seems this has been solved. First, the superstars thing adds variety both to the ways of scoring and the animations involved. Secondly, the graphics have been improved (although I understand they still aren't great) and it seems that the flow and framerate have been smoothed out as well.

All in all, when I step back and look at the product that is to come, I see a fun game to play that captures the showtime elements of the NBA perfectly with enough realism thrown in to make it a legitimate basketball game.

I guess time will tell, but in the mean time...

After playing the demo version. I believe!! I agree with what you say. And as unbelievable as it may be I for one don't have a problem with the graphics....I play waaay to much basketball myself, to really worry about whose muscles don't look perfect, or who has big hands or some of the other things. I loved the variety of offensive moves that are available. And the feeling I got playing against nash that he might throw a pass that I didn't see coming. It is really fun....just my opinion though.

Damn, I wish I could get my hands on the demo to try it out. I guess I'll just have to wait another month or so to play it.

No, you're not alone.

I think the problem is that people choose sides too often and knowingly or unknowingly try to persuade others why thier choice is better. I was guilty of that when I first joined OS but I've tried my best to stop that.

If you don't like it, please for goodness sakes, don't post about it.

I've tried my best to stick to this mantra as hard as it is. People will always come up with "Oh, these companies need to know what we want" which is just a B.S. cop out for their rant/flame.

Also, there are alot of new posters who magically spring up around release time. Who knows what their agenda is but they show up like clockwork.

To me, both games are simply preference. One has great graphics, the other has great control. And to me, that's what it boils down to.

I am with you. I am looking forward to this game as well. I thought last years game wasn't as bad as people are saying. The fast breaks was a problem though. However the game overall was better than espn.

Even though it had problems last year, I am looking forward to the game.

When i popped in 2005, the first month was pure bliss. The atmosphere - from the opening song, Maintain, to the last quarter - really took me back to a place where I used to fiend for Live (back in the mid to late 90's). I can't explain why.

some have claimed there are actual plays and teams play somewhat like their real life counterparts. if both of those DO ring true, its a buy.

Its ultimately come down to that, for me. nothing else matters

Well, except for the way PGs would take over games, I feel like Live did a good job of that last year - playing against Shaq, the Heat went to him a ton. And the same can be said for many other stars - stars got their touches in '05.

i like strategy and using real plays, likewise playing against a CPU who uses team plays wisely. Liek I said, I heard its better this year, thats a plus.

Live 2005 wasnt a wreck of a game and it looks like they fixed those errors. Now its just a matter of if youre willing to spend 50 bucks for an "update" and if youre willing to stay on the messageboards hereing more complaints about the "monetary price" of the "update" rather than how good the game is.

agreed. i have enjoyed live 04, and 05 more than espn 04 and 05.

i will buy both live and 2k for xbox again this year and hope both continue to improve.


if live has real plays, and balance for defense against the superstars, it will be fun to play. graphics good enough for actual playing. closeup replays not as pretty as 2k.

for 2k, if they deliver on their promises, it will be a great game. they are on the right path by totally redoing iso. iso 2 was horrible. they need to fix the major bugs and bring a deep franchise mode(which sounds like they have done).

I owned up until July and it was pretty good overall. In fact I should have kept it until 06 was relesed and just updated the rosters. But trust me you are not alone because after not playing Live for about 3 years the 05 version was really solid and got me back into the mix....

Funny thing, last season it was 2k that got all the pre-season hate. Several guys posted how horrendous 2K3 was, and how it couldn't possibly be any good....now its Live. Personally, I like Lives fluidity and controls better, but I always enjoy playing both.
