    The 'play set' thread...

Thought we could get this thread rolling and assist PlayMakers at the same time...

The play sets are very easily adjusted this year...all teams have 6 set plays. These consist of standard ones for all teams (post, pick and roll) as well as team specific one's.

These 6 set plays can easily be changed to whatever you like and saved. Ie, you can set Jersey to 6 motion plays...LA to 6 triangle plays and so forth.

I experimineted with Philly's plays all set to secondary break one's and they ran a lot of those plays (amongst others). Setting these seems to make them the most used by the CPU.

I think most of PlayMakers work from LIVE 05 should thus be applicable here? With all this being able to be saved from day one and no need to do it every game

We should add plays / good one's for certain players so that people can use them...PM's can consider them for his team sets.

To start the ball rolling, two great plays to get a 3 point shooting PF like Dirk or Walker free for a 3 ball are:

    Motion 9

    and

    1-4 High 3.

If we set all triangle for LA, will they still run quick plays to? Ex iso, quick post up, pick and roll.

I'm going to leave 1-2 quick plays for each team then assign designed plays for the rest of the Playbook.

But by my surprise I was shocked that the Playbooks I used in 2005 do still fit some teams perfect. It willhelp because it speeds up the process all I have to do now is take into account the personel changes from that year to right now and make minor tweaks to the playbooks.

I miss some of the plays from 06 but these playbooks allow more outside plays for PF's like Dirk and Sheed. So, I'll take the trade off.

Yeah, the 05 play books will work perfectly...

Changing the plays doesn't affect the fast breaking this time...as that was completely fixed.

Do you still have the list of the 05 plays PM? If so, could you post it please

Yeah I'll find them in the slider forum and post them here. Just remember there have been a few personel changes since 05 but most teams like Detroit, Miami and Indy ahould still be good to go.

          I found them

Atlanta-Flex Offense-(Set plays 1-3-2)/Defense Man To Man. Designed to get the ball to Walker and Harrington in low blocks. Play 3 gets Walker up high on the perimeter and allows him to break down his man usually a PF off the dribble or take one of his pattened three's.

Charlotte-Sideline Triangle-(Set Plays 1-2-6) Defense 2/3 Shifting Zone. This set is built towards taking advantage of E.Okafor's inside power game. Usually Okafor will provide a target on the weakside of the court with only the PG running a inside/out two man game. make sure Emeka is listed as the starting PF in your dynasty and not the Bobcats center because this play and set is designed to cater to a teams scoring PF on the low blocks.

Dallas-Motion Offense-(Set Plays 3-8-9) Defense 2/3 Zone. The Mavs will thrive off these three plays. It is tailored to Nowitzki placing him out high and down low. However, look for Finley and the Mavs other collection of Swingman to get their touches aswell. Play 9 is to post Dampier on the strong side with Dirk spotting up along the baseline.

Detroit-1/4 High Offense-(Set Plays 7-2-8) Defense Full Court Man. Takes advantage of the Pistons High Scoring Backcourt Combo of Billups and Rip Hamilton coming off high screens by the Wallace's also allows Rasheed to get his touches being the primary low post scorer.

Houston-Double High Offense-(Set Plays 5-4-2) Defense Man To Man. This set is all about McGrady. He will setup just outside of the top of the arc above the freethrow line and his freestyle moves will force you to eventually bring a double team. McGrady will get his 25-30 shots in these sets with Yao getting a few touches aswell. T-Mac could drop 30 or 40 on you in these sets.

Miami-Inside Triagle/Sideline Triangle Offense-(Set Plays I-Triangle 8, S-Triangle 5) Defense Full Court Man. These two combo sets best utilize Shaq in low post and makes sure he gets fed the ball consistently. Make sure D.Wade is switched to the 2G spot because he will get more touches and shots when the defense collapse on Shaq and switch E.Jones to SF for both sets so he can work the baseline perimeter.

New Jersey-Zone Motion/Zone Flash Offense/Defense 3/4 Court Man. Zone Motion keeps Kidd more invloved with distributing the rock instead of shooting. Zone Flash will get Jefferson flashing into the key up high so he can use his slashing skills in the paint. Make sure you added V.Carter and play him at the SG spot giving Kidd a perimeter scorer to drive and dish out to repeatedly.

Orlando-Box Offense-(Set Plays 8-9-3) Defense Man To Man. These Box set plays is geared more towards Orlando's perimeter Players Francis, Moble and Hill. They will shoulder the bulk of the scoring load and spacing created in this set allows Francis to get to the rack often which might get your defenders into foul trouble with sliders geared towards rewarding players who drw contact in the paint area on shooting fouls.

Golden ST-Box/Sideline Triangle Offense-(Set Plays Box 1-5-7, S-Triangle 3-6) Defense Man To Man. Look for these plays in both sets to get Jason Richardson imvolved early and often. His perimeter game is shaky but his set plays in the Triangle sets are geared towards getting him on the low blocks so he can over match opposong SG's down low. The Box set is also good for getting production out of Dunleavy and Murphy.

Phoenix-Secondary Break Offense-(Set Plays 1-4-8) Defense 2/3 shifting Zone. This appears to be the best fit for the Suns because it runs the offense through Amare yet it doesn't ignore slasher S.Marion on the Wing and Nash from 3-PT land. Make sure you switch Amare to Center and Marion to PF to get the best results out this set.

Sacramento-Utah/Motion Offense-(Set Plays Utah 3-2-7, Motion 8-10-3) Defense Man To Man. The Utah Set is actually best suited for running the Offense through Webber it puts him in a # of posistions to score while the Motion Offense caters to Peja more often. The Utah set does provide the best ball movement of any play sets in this game and it is ideal for the Kings especially if you edited the players Passing rating like i recommened in my earlier post within this thread. You will see excellent movement and ball distribution.

Utah-Utah Offense-(Set Plays 3-4-1) Defense 2-3 Zone. Hello Carlos Boozer because this guy will get plenty of work in the low post. Also expect Kiralenko (sp) to get some touches near the high post but for the most part it's all about Boozer.

Boston-Offensive Playbook(Stagger 4-1-5). Try running two of those plays plus one quick play preferably ISO it gets Pierce going early. If he gets hot you must bring a double team to force him to pass to a lesser threat down low usually M.Blount. Stagger 4 is the best set play for him because it kinda isolates him aswell.

Chicago-Offensive Playbook-(Inside Triangle 2-4-6) More touches for Curry but it will still get Deng involved and once Ben Gordon enters the game off the bench he will usually get most of the looks because of his PRIMACY RATING compaired to other Bulls players on the bench. They will run play 6 for Gordon.

Cleveland-Offensive Playbook-(Stagger 3-4-1, Secondary Break 6). Notice the one specialty play for LeBron if he's at SF in Secondary Break 6 it gets him involved on the blocks replacing Gooden. Try mixing that play in with one or two Stagger plays.

Denver-Offensive Playbook-(Flex 4-3-1). The emphasis is to start off with Melow working the baseline high area then Martin on play 3 works the post with a clear out if Miller can deliver the ball. Denver loves to run ISO aswell so mix that play in with two designed plays.

Indiana-Offensive Playbook-(1-4 High 7-2-8). Gets Jermaine O'Neal up high to start then he slides down into the low box. Outside shooters Miller and Jackson should get plenty of open looks aswell beyond the arc if O'Neal kicks it out to the spot shooter.

L.A.Clippers-Offensive Playbook-(Inside Triangle 4-5-1). I didn't boost up B.Simmons offensive AWR so he got screwed kinda but Brand and Maggette will be force fed the ball. Maggette should drive a lot if he's at SG instead of SF. Also, try Post Up to get Brand involved.

L.A.Lakers-Offensive Playbook-(1-4 High 6-4-1). Not sure if I posted this one before but basically it's more Kobe and some Lamar Odom. Kobe will dominate the ball in these set plays which is basically just what Kobe does anyways. He will breakdown defenders off a high screen within this set so it's best to just go around the pick and hope you beat him to his spot either way he'll jack up a three aswell. I didn't upgrade Mihm so don't expect any plays run towards him with those sets unless you go in and study a play yourself for him. Iso is a great mixin play aswell for the Lakers.

Memphis-Offensive Playbook-(Stagger 4-3-1). Mix in Post up aswell to get Gasol down low. He has a soft touch and with my sliders he'll get to the ft line often against a weak defender. Big Guy's with an offensive game are rewarded with my sliders for low post play if they get hacked.

Milwaukee-Offensive Playbook-(1-4 High 1-4-5). Basically just watch Redd launch from outside. I threw in a play also that gets him down low on the baseline but the Bucks PG's are so ******** it might not matter. On play 5 Mason is more effective than Van Horn because his atheletic skills allow him to freestyle and manuver a lot better. Van Horn will settle for jumpers.

Seattle-Offensive Playbook-(Motion 9-3-6, Secondary Break 6). I only assigned Seattle and Dallas the Motion offense because their perimeter players are very skilled. The Motion offense tends to break down more so than any of the other sets I've studied and tested. That being said a team with this offense most have very good perimeter shooters and Seattle and Dallas fit that bill perfectly. Also, kinda like Cleveland I assigned Seattle one set play out of Secondary Break which is tailored towards Rashard Lewis from his SF spot down low. If they call this play against you using Lewis his height and jumping ability will be unmatched versus most other SF down low. The Sonics will take three's anyways in the motion offense but if you really want them to launch them around 30 plus times then throw in the 3-pt play aswell. With my player edits and the low to medium defensive pressure I reccomend for perimeter shooters you'll see them spread the court nicely and setup for three's.

New Orleans-Secondary Break Plays 1, 4 and 8. Select two of those three's and run it with ISO aswell for them.

Minnesota-1/4 High Plays 7, 4 and 2. Utilize those combos with Pick N Roll if you want them to use Cassell and Garnett in that situation.

Philadelphia-1/4 High Plays 2, 5 and 3. Also reccomend Iso aswell for AI to go one on one.

San Antonio-Sideline Triangle Plays 7, 3 and 8. Inside Triangle Plays 4, 5 and 9. Utah Play 3 also functions good for Spurs.

New York-Sideline Triangle Plays 1, 5 and 7 combined with ISO for Marbury.

          Toronto-Flex Plays 1, 2 and 4.

Washington-Double High Plays 6, 2 and 8. Make sure Jamison is at PF and not Jefferies.

              Re: The 'play set' thread...

I saw this thread and your plays PM and decided to give it a go using Detroit vs Houston since those two teams didn't have drastic changes in personel. I know you said these are old playbooks but holy **** man Detroit really looked like the Pistons against me. I didn't touch sliders because I'm waiting on your set but you should really do yourself a favor and save time by using some of these playbooks you already created. I couldn't believe what I was seeing out of Billups and Hamilton. The Pistons where moving and spreading the ball around on me. If you need help I can test more playbooks for you to speed up the progress. Well it's getting late I played a 10 minute qtr game after I saw this thread and just wanted to give some feedback. I look forward to your work PM

                Re: The 'play set' thread...

Can someone help me out here? I set the plays for each team. The problem is I don't know if the cpu actually runs them. Ex I played vs Det who has 1-4 high sets. However they never once set up in the 1-4 high set, not once. So I played against Minn, who has the same sets. They never set up in the 1-4 set. What gives, do the cpu teams run the sets or not? Please help

I played with Playmakers test set of plays for Miami in the slider thread and they do run plays. I just setup the playbook the way he described and Miami was running plays for Shaq down low and their wing players Wade, Posey and Williams were all passing and moving. Playmakers has 3 camera views and I used the Press Camera view how he listed and saw the CPU players running the Triangle plays.

                      Yeah, they definitely run plays.

I put all Philly's to secondary break and then ONLY guarded Iverson (ie, controlled the man guarding him) and he was moving all over the court / going baseline.

The plays are deceptive for two reasons:

                      1. They move sooooooo slow. A player should 'sprint' along the baseline / cutting etc. They all sort of 'shuffle'.

                      2. If you so much as move off the CPU for a mili second...they break the play and shoot / go to the hoop.

You really need to get all the defensive settings correct. Loosely guard non scorers / tightly guard scorers.

Sidelines Triangle 6 is great play for SG's who can post up on the left block.

The Lakers use this play for Kobe and and it would be a good play for players like Jerry Stackhouse, Vince Carter or Micheal Redd SG's who can play down low.

Zone Stack is a good play for PG's who like to play down low on occasions like Gary Payton, Sam Casell and Andre Miller.
