the trials and tribulations of live 360. att:playmakers.

well. i have re-purchased nba live 06 for the 3rd time as my local EB have told me that nba2k6 has been delayed here in australia yet again....to the 15th of may. that is disgusting and i cant wait that long to play an nba game so i am going to have to make do with this botched up 360 version of live.

i am going to go really hard and drastically reduce the offensive awareness and general scoring of all role playing guards and swingmen as it may be the only way to get this game to utilise its bigs better. i know this is more a bandaid fix than anythign as the AI programming is at fault. but if it can even out the tendencies a bit better.....

i am not a fan of editing players attributes to unrealistic levels. like in live02 when i had to drastically drop every players off rebs to help the shocking board crashing. but in some games it just has to be done.

i feel also that in live 360, upping the cpu offensive rebounds will help get the bigs more involved.

playmakers i am using your sliders and playbooks. u have done a great job on those, but lets try and get this game to its optimum level of play.
have u discovered anything more in your tinkering that may help balance out the bigs-guards tendencies?
    if so. please elaborate.
    i will do the same.

I've reduced guy's like Bruce Bowen down to 25 offensive awareness and strictly made him a defensive specialist.

Adrian Griffin has been reduced down to a poor mans Bowen.

The offensive BIG Men like Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, Nowitzki all have their same offensive awareness but it will be the highest awareness setting on their team. To counter this guy's like D.Wade, Manu Ginoboli and Tony Parker have to be edited for FG Rating but boosted up more for inside scoring this allows them to attack the rim more often and pass up on quick jumpers. Meaning if you stay in front of them they pass the ball which in turn will lead to the extra pass going to the big man.

Hopefully by the end of this week I'll post all the edits that I made. Believe it or not even with offensive awareness ranging from 0-50 for certain perimeter players they still are capable of flourishing. It just makes them take less quick shots because they become less aggressive offensively. Which is the goal I'm shooting for overall.

I wouldn't touch the big players offensive rebounding ratings because you can control that by boosting up the offensive rebounding slider or by adjusting the crash board slider within the teams game settings strategy.

Ironically because this game is programmed to be more offensively geared towards players reducing the offensive awareness down even further believe it or not doesn't hurt the overall gameplay. Since the Defensive ratings were so low and most players had to be bumped up to 70 or higher which was 25-50 points for about 75% of the players it balances out when you drop offenisve awarenesss of about 75% of the players down.

It makes the game more defensive but the Bigs get more involved down low for certain team because their perimeter guy's have been reduced.

I can tell you right now teams that play close to perfect already with the earlier edits I made are the Lakers, Celtics, Sonics, Jazz, Blazers, Warriors and Nuggets. There are a few others also but I'm srtictly focusing on the teams with impact PF's or Centers.

Re: the trials and tribulations of live 360. attlaymakers.

yeah, how bad was the def awar ratings in this game. i had to bump as u said 75% of players up 20 odd points. now i have dropped most perimiter guys off aware down 20 odd points. i could probably go lower. but i dont like to see the overall ratings not to a realistic standard. i am a perfectionist with rating edits. i change them every day to coincide with the real nba. but now every team except for perimiter oriented teams ie sonics.. has their bigs as the most offensively aware players in their respective teams.

i didnt mean i was going to raise off reb attributes of players. i meant i was going to raise the sliders. i have the off reb sliders now for the cpu to 35. the bigs crash the boards more affectively now.

i have only played one game since my new low off aware edits for perimiter role players and that was against the kings who are generally a perimiter team.
still big issues with the bigs and guard tendencies and i had a massive difference in my ft attempts to the cpus. i had 35ft attempts and the kings only had 8. and i lost 101-80 on superstar. missed 15ft attempts though.
but i am going to have to balance that out.
anyway. the game was decent. bibby and artest were the go to guys obviously. but miller had a shocker. he was in foul trouble all game and never touched the ball. took 2 shots.
i was happy that abdur rahim got some looks and kenny thomas came off the bench and scored some too, he even took a couple of jumpers which impressed me. and potapenko was involved too. ????but still. artest and bibby would force a bit too much for my liking when their was better options. but generally it played alright.
my next game is against the sonics so i know the bigs wont get a look in.

i played a quick game with the raptors vs suns and took turns playing with each team to see tendencies. and the suns ran and gunned every chance they got. diaw was starting sf and scored 20pts 8/9fgs. i have since swapped him and marion around so marion will get more involved.
the raptors went to bosh early then seemed to forget about him. but i was pretty game fatigued by this time and wasnt playing very well or properly.
i have noticed that if u use the bigs on defense and let the guards and sf mark their man that the cpu will look more to the bigs on offense. dont know if this is a coincidence but i dont think it is.

before every game. i drop the fastbreak and crash board sliders for each team right down. if its not i find the cpu will run and gun and force way too much.
as u said in earlier threads playmakers.,it seems the pgs with the highest awareness generally force the tempo anyway so......
what do u do with those in game on offense sliders playmakers?

Re: the trials and tribulations of live 360. attlaymakers.

i have decided to keep diaw as sf and move marion to pf as it gets diaws playmaking skills utilised and marions rebounding as well. problem being. marion wont get any touches now.

i am monitoring a cpu vs cpu suns vs spurs game to see if my new ratings have made a significant difference.

i simmed a heat vs twolves game before and the heat won but not before the twolves made a big rally in the 4th. shaq led all scorers with 23pts which was very good. and kg did lead the twolves in scoring but only with 12. and he wasnt utilised nowhere near enough while shaq was active all game long.
hassell and posey still got too many looks and forces but it is better balanced.
that stupid crosscourt whip pass to a cutting sf is still prevalant too many times and gets intercepted a lot when a low post player is in prime position. shows just how poorly programmed the AI is. but alas. it will have to do.
