I was WRONG about Nba Live

Totally wrong. From seeing the 1st videos, to the players with the stumpy limbs on the xbox version i had, to the long arms and overly huge hands, and the cheesy videos that EA presented to us when the game was in the pre release stages, I never even gave this game a chance.

I completely wrote the game off, thinking about EA's past, and how they didnt seem to care much about what they released or left out of their bball games, I figured, a half finished game at 60 bucks is shown EA to have gone mad.

I decided to just DL the demo again one nights since 2k6 got severely stale
and played quite a few 2 half games PHX vs MIA

Im not exactly sure what it was this time around because i used to always mess with the demo, but something just clicked about the game. I dont remember at what moment the lightbulb went up, but it made me decide to get the game.

I still think it wasnt worth 60 bucks, or any unfinished game for that matter, but boy "is it worth 40 bucks" as i started a thread a couple of weeks ago.

This game has an insane amount of basketball animations that to me makes it the best game out there right now (with the edits of course)

I can recall one sequence, where i was Shaun Livingston, and couldnt blow by my defender, playing online against the Mavs, and i pump faked the defender and when he went in the air, i leaned against him for the contact and shot the ball looking for the and 1 call. Now of course the refs didnt give it to me, but it was such a smooth surpisingly realistic animation that i almost jumped out of my seat.

I mean i could really go on about them, such as the incredible amount of around the basket animations (that makes the post up game so much fun), and the fact that everyone can't do all of the same exact things the same exact way, Im loving basketball games again.

Im looking forward to this game for next years iteration, but this game is a must have if you didnt get it. I convinced my brother to buy it, and he called me a couple of days later thanking me for telling him about this game. I havent had so many ooohhh and yes moments in a long time

There was one time i was playing chicago, and Tyson Chandler was deep inside and I fouled him with Elton Brand because he was going to score it, and Marv proceded to say, "Good foul, he's not a great F shooter"

Steve Kerr then jumps in with, "it was a great foul, this guy hasnt hit a free throw since Democrats were in office" I was online playing my brother and we laughed for a good 3 minutes (or it felt like it).

Anyhow, I could really go on about alot of the things i saw, like the teams lining up in a straight line for the inbounds pass, but i wont blabber too much.

The main point is, It has a wildy insane amount of BASKETBALL THINGS that it just does so right.

    Im enjoying bball again.

Who is to say 07 wont take an insane amount of edits to play a good game as well? I was interested in picking the game up, but not if im forced to buy a transfer kit so it can play something like what you're describing...

I think that the game play in NBA 2K6 XBOX 360 with the patch is more sim than NBA Live, but it is not that bad. NBA Live is still a little too over the top for me.

Knowing EA, it will most likely require the edits, but once they're done, its alot of fun.
IMO, Playmakers has been great with this, and I dont see him stopping now.

You see the playes space the floor, you have time to call up plays, throw it into the post and kick out for a shot if available. Something 2K also needs to do is make that pass into the post an automatic thing, instead of the same pass that hits the defenders body everytime

I'll mail off the Legends rosters again tommorrow for you.

I would really waite to start a season and use these rosters. I think they are alot more challenging with the Legends players being utilized on teams that were once weak like Seattle, New York, Orlando and Minnesota.

Houston will really pound the ball inside to Yao, Hakeem and Sampson if you play them while New York will go to Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson and Wlat Frazier all game.

Orlando's lineup has no Legends but here's what I did to make them a power house

            C-Shaq
            PF-Howard
            SF-Stevenson
            SG-Francis
PG-Penny........(He got his old school ratings)

I put Cassell back at PG for your Rockets with Horry at SF backing up Sampson. Mobley is the SG or you could use Head at SG and go with small backcourt and all 7'0 front court with the triple towers of Yao, Hakeem and Sampson.

              hey kdre.
              do u play single player.
cause thats the only reason u need to edit this game so dramatically.
i havent played it 2player but i am certain the edits can be left at default. as the edits are done to manipulate the cpu into to playing a more conservative and realistic game of ball.
playing 2 player, this gme would play sweet. regardless of edits.

nog, all I play is single player. I dont have friends around that plays basketball,

My brother lives a good 60 -70 miles away, and we rarely get to play now, so
when we do get to play, its alot of fun.

BTW, PM I Havent started a season yet, im still trying to figure out which team i can play best with. The Clips are fun though.

Oh and in ORL, you mean instead of using D3 and Nick Anderson you gave them Francis and Stevenson?

And Thanks for those Legends edits as well =)

Yeah I was running out of space for created players so I thought it would be best to send Francis back to Orlando and pair him up with Penny Hardaway in the backcourt. They are still pretty good with this lineup:

                  C-Shaq
                  PF-Howard
                  SF-Stevenson
                  SG-Francis
                  PG-Hardaway

I'm loosing to them right now 80-74 with less than 1:00 minute left using the Hawks and Dominique Wilkins.

They have all 5 starters in double fugures for Orlando right now

                  Shaq-(13-pt's & 9 boards)
                  Howard-(10-pt's & 7 boards)
                  Stevenson-(12-pt's)
                  Francis-(11-pt's)
                  Pennny-(13-pt's, 5-Assist & 4 boards)

They are really moving the ball around and playing a very good team game.

Shaq is actually 3/8 from the FT Line so that has been his downfall otherwise the game would be over right now for me. He's been killing Kevin Willis and Theo Ratliff down low.

How do you calculate the ratings?

EA had the ratings already listed for the Legends in their old games.

I basically just left all the BIG's as is because that helps them become a higher priority on offense if they are ELITE PF's and C's.

As for the PG's, SG's and SF's they have to be reduced by 50 points for Offensive Awareness and 20 points each for FG rating and 3-Pt rating which forces them to take less quick shots and jumoers all game.

I basically reprogrammed the game to play more team oriented making sure that the top players (Scorer's) remained the highest priority so they still get their points and shots. Ea took out the Primacy Rating on the 360 version so you have to rank the players by a ratings chart to get the most important players to still perform top notch.

I also had to boost up defensive awareness to 70 and up for all players because they had the game to unbalanced and heavely in favor of the offense game. Believe it or not you can put all players at 0 Offensive Awareness on the Lakers and Kobe at 25 and he'll still take the most shots because he's the most aware Offensive player on their roster if you did that.

Basically, once you put the rating in place for each team then you go through the tons of plays and decide which plays best fits the offensive weapons on each squad that you want taking the shots. You can assign post up plays for SF's and SG's like Kobe and LeBron which is great.

But it's always important to have the Basic Post UP in most teams playbooks so that they start their offense inside out if they have guy's like Shaq, Duncan, Garnett or Brand. The original playbooks won't do anything but force the CPU to run QUICK Plays all game without any ball movement.

I think you'll really enjoy the Legends rosters because it beefs up the league and really makes every team tough to beat now. I increased the DEFENSIVE ratings for all the players an extra 5-10 points to make All-Star Level a little more difficult.

Hey PM, I just downloaded your legends roster with sliders and everything else package that was posted yesterday. One question I have is its set to superstar and I'd rather play all-star. Do I need to redo the sliders or do they work with it by just changing the setting to all-star?

Thanks and great work by the way!

You don't have to change anything just switct it to All-Star and go at it.

I honestly prefer All-Star for regular play and Super Star only if your going to use the Player Lock feature.

But the Sliders were reshaped to play on both levels.

I sent the memory card today priority mail for you.

Everything is setup accept the Playbooks changed for the Classic teams and the Sliders were adjusted a bit. The speed is at 65 and I switched the Default setting to All-Star instead of Super Star like I had it with the download files that were posted.

You should get it by Friday.

                            Peace!
