    NBA Live 07 Impressions (PSP)

Well, I'm a 2K player but with no port of 2k7 on psp and the other NBA game on PSP being horrible, I went with Live 07. I also had Live 06 for the PSP last year and I can say that the gameplay is improved. They finally "Icon Passing" in this versions game. Last year's didn't have an ability to choose who you wanted to pass to and it really killed the gameplay. A full dynasty mode is there also which is where I'll spend most my time. I prefer playing as the GM and simming games.

Ok, for the things I didn't like. The controls aren't really a problem but I do find it hard Posting-Up. I can't seem to do any post moves except backing down. Maybe it's just me so if anyone can let me know how it works, it'd be nice to know.

Another problem is fatigue. It seems like there is no fatigue in the PSP version. I don't see any energy bars in the Sub menu or a fatigue in the Options. There was also about 3 or 4 players averaging 48mins per game in the Dynasty. Even Yao was up there with 43mins per game:y4:. Having no fatigue hurts because the CPU will never use their bench and it takes out the realism of it during Dynasty.

Other than that, NBA Live is the game to choose for the PSP. I always wanted a portable bball game and with no 2k7, Live will give me the fix i need.

The "chemistry" feature in Dynasty supposedly requires playing time by your bench to keep everyone happy --- I have the game but haven't checked this out...

That's great news that they included a fantasy draft this year! Is there any setting to fix the lack of fatigue that was mentioned in the first post?

I am in the same situation as the original poster. I play 2k games, but this game is your best bet on the psp. I tried each one of the mini games. They seem fun, the dribbling one was kind of boring to me.

Re: NBA Live 07 PSP Impressions

I must say after playing NCAA Football (the new version that does not include the run spot bug) I was let down by NBA Live 07. It just feels clunky to me. Graphics are nice. Animations are pretty sweet as well.
I started a season with the Bulls and I was bored after my first game. Marv and Stever make intelligent comments but they are behind the action and it does not sound natural. I think I was spoiled by MLB 06 in that regard.
The animation is smooth but it seemed no matter what camera/zoom I picked I had a hard time following the action, especially on defense. And it just gets crazy with all the different buttons you can/have to use. The beauty of a game like MLB 06 is that it is simple to control but looks great and sounds great. Which is perfect for a portable version. It feels like they tried to do too much with this game.

The minigame they ripped from NBA 06 is nice and I think they really improved on the fun level with it. But the Handles minigame is as dumb as it gets. Just a gimmick to have u turn your psp sideways.

OK game but not one I am keeping. My rating would be a 71/100.

Re: NBA Live 07 Impressions (PSP)

Well, I broke down and got it the other day.

Overall, it's not bad. There is (Finally!!) a fantasy draft and multi-year dynasty. Lots of retro jerseys to choose from. The controls are responsive, but the menus are sluggish. I like the controls comapared to 2K7s Mortal Kombat setup.

The one thing that is killinng it for me is the lack of fatigue. When I decided to buy this game I was hoping the initial reports of no fatigue were just due to not finding the right settings. I looked through every setting, slider, and preference, and nothing is even close to setting fatigue. During games NO ONE is ever subbed out for either team, and I played with 8 and 10 minute quarters. I even tried going into season, hoping it was maybe just an issue with exhibition games. During the season, the simmed games do use subs, but any game you play yourself will be the same 5 on 5 for the entire game.

To me, this ruins the game. I'm thinking it's going on Ebay within days.

Re: NBA Live 07 Impressions (PSP)

I agree, the "no fatigue" is a game killer. I could deal with it in dynasty mode because i like simming games and playing as the GM, but the fatigue problem is there also. All starters on each team are averaging 40mins a game at the least. That is not cool at all. On top of that, you can't even set your own lineups. They have this new player rotation thingy but it doesn't help when the starters get 90% of the playing time while the bench guys split 10%. I could always change the percentages to spread out the playing time, but I can't do it for the CPU teams.

Also, after playing some more games, the CPU AI seems suspect. There are times during their offense when they know how to play and react to the defense and play good b-ball. And then there are times where one player will just hold the ball till the shot clock runs down and shoots a three.

Re: NBA Live 07 Impressions (PSP)

I noticed the AI holding the ball and shooting a three mutiple times.

The first few times it happened I thought it was maybe a characteristic of the team I was playing. But after playing some more games every team did it and it was a couple of times a quarter. One guy would hold the ball the entire shot clock and the rest of the team would freeze. Then as the shot clock winds down he would shoot a three. I don't remember a time the player missed either.

Re: NBA Live 07 Impressions (PSP)

I have the PS2 version of the game (holding out until PS3 comes out to get NBA 2K7) and call me crazy but I love the PS2 version of the game despite the fact that there are big time problems with the game (I thought NBA Live 06 stunk up the joint but for some reason I'm loving NBA Live 07).

I really like the new ball handling moves they added to the PS2 version of the game and I know since the PSP doesn't have a right analog that there will definitely be control issues with the game in terms of ball handling. But I would like to know is how does the ball handling fare on the PSP version compared to the PS2 version? Despite the fact that there is no second analog do they still give you more dribble moves than you had on last year's NBA Live 06 for PSP?

Also for those that happen to have either the PS2/XBOX versions of the game, how does the PSP version stack up in comparison. I'm really enjoying the PS2 version of the game and I'm hoping I can get a similar experience for the PSP. I have both Madden 07 and NHL 07 for the PSP and love both games so I'm hoping that NBA Live 07 can bring me that same joy as I have with both NHL 07 and Madden 07.

I didn't notice any new ball handling moves in 07. They all looked the same as 06. And on the question about how does the PSP version stack up against the xb0x/ps2 versions, IGN actually said that the PSP version plays better than the xbox/ps2 editions.

I just got my hands on the PSP version. It's an improvement over last year's game but I'm still going to give it time and decide whether or not it's worth keeping.

I do have a question though, how do you do the triple threat moves on the PSP? I had last year's game but I couldn't figure out how to do the triple threat moves in the game. I see the computer using them, but I don't know how to use them myself? If anyone knows I'd appreciate to learn how to do triple threat moves for the game. Thanks.
