Re: NBA Live 2003 (Not that bad)

Live is ok, it has alot of advantages and disadvantages like any other game, but the leap from 2002 to 2003 was pretty nice.

Some things about the game that suck are:
-Fouls, the edge is ALWAYS given to the offensive player, the charge button RARELY works b/c the game moves so fast that when you set up for a charge the offensive player can easily manuever around you and dunk the ball! Also Lets say Baron Davis is driving the lane, he goes up to dunk, my PF or SF go up with him to block it, he dunks the ball cleanly...knocks me on my a$$, and I get called for the foul and he's headed to the line. This sucks soo much and gets old so fast, which is part of the reason why I can't play more than 3 or 4 games in a row. It doesnt happen a few times, but almost everytime someone goes up for a dunk. When a guy goes up for a dunk, no matter how small he is or how big and strong you are, he will always dunk on you, go to the line, or both and to add insult to injury you will always get knocked down while he stands like nothing happened.

-Can't block dunks or layups, once a guy goes up it's over.

-Zone defense is horrible, just like MM players dont know how to play zone.

-That dunk sound gets on my damn nerves lol. Sounds like someone hit a fence with an aluminum baseball bat.

-superstar mode defense is ridiculously hard and fake.

-needs better annimations for pass interceptions and fouls(I hate it when someone dunks and his foot happens to kick me in the head, I fall and get called for a foul!) At least show me grabbing or hitting the guy.

-the game has bugs but this one gets me a few times a game, the ball handler can be cutting to the hole, get deep in the paint, stop dribbling, shoulder charge the defender knocking him to the ground, pick up his dribble again and dunk or layup. This happens a few times a game to me on offense and defense.

-take away the monster blocks, and tone down steals

    -get accurate areanas

    -slow the game down!!!!

-must I say the commentary blows big time, just a bunch of random comments.

-franchise mode blows, why do players refuse to sign if your team is good and you're willing to give them a sizeable contract? I can deal with the fact that they refuse to sign but at least give a reason, maybe like he's not happy with the coaching staff or something, but not just "refuse to sign". Also franchise mode is pretty boring, you should at least be able to scout draftees. Has anyone been able to draft a good(79 plus) 2nd round player? Also player progression sucks, they should show you the progressions like Madden.

-goes along with franchise, during franchises cpu puts together impossible teams. One year the magic somehow had a lineup including T-Mac, Mo Peterson, Jason Kidd, Mike Miller, Grant Hill, and Yao Ming!!! Give me a break this is impossible!

Some good things about live 2003:

-graphics are excellent. Player models are nice.

-Lots of plays in the playbook

-teams play like their real nba counterparts

-cpu is much more aggressive than in years past

    -freestyle control is great

    -throwback unis!

Re: NBA Live 2003 (Not that bad)

I love Live 2003! With the edits, that I and other gamers did, especially. I liked it out of the box because it was fun but the edits made it both fun and realistic.

Many people just don't have the patience or time to edit ratings but it makes a BIG difference. If any of you are interested in editing NBA Live, check out the "For those of us Live players" thread, it has almost everything you need to know about editting this game. Enjoy!

Editing is great if you're playing exhibtion games all your life.

When rookies and free agents come into play in Francihse Mode, they'll all be far superior in those catergories where you decreased the ratings for the rest of the NBA.

After about 5 years, you'll have the same problems because you can't edit all of the new rookies who have far better skills than many players. Then you'll see those guys dominanting and you have no way of editing them.

Editing the whole game is great if you play EXHIBITION and you only play a 82 game season, but after that, new players that are uneditable come in and destroy all of your theories.

That's why I IMO find it pointless in the longrun.

True, you spend wayy wayy wayy more time editing than you will playing. I just want to know if the problems i mentioned in my first post on this thread are addressed in the edits. B/c right now I can't play more than 3 games of live without getting frustrated.
