Good Old Fun

Hey guys, I am probably asking to be attacked for posting this but what I'm saying is that I love this game. I am not even close to a hardcore gamer, half of the posts on this website I don't even understand, but I like to play games with me and my buddy's and do an occasional dynasty or fantasy draft or something. I think this game is great, graphics are great I dont think you can argue that, skinny legs a little bit, but not too bad. The game plays quite smoothly and the controls are easy to use. I hear people talking about sliding stuff and nonsense like that, I have no idea but I think this plays a pretty realistic, good looking, fun game of NBA basketball. Agree or disagree, wanna tell me how "2k is the awesomeist sim game ever" or whatever, throw whatever you have out there.
quick question for those reading this, is there fantasy draft in this game?

I am pretty much like you. I think people get too technical with these basketball games. They enjoy saying which one is better. I am enjoying nba live 08 right now for what it is. It is not a perfect game, and it never will be. But, it is fun as hell to me.

Even the 'Immortal' 2K8, has its flaws in my eyes, so I could not agree more with the Live 08 comments....

Getting mine at 10 am today, and can't wait to just have fun with the gameplay and enjoy the graphics and stellar presentation.

I agree with everything being said. I think a lot of the hate for Live has to do with the fact its EA more than anything else.

Definitely.... it's the 2k fanboys who can stand to even fathom that they now have legit competition in the ballin' video game market

I am glad you guys are enjoying Live. It seemes like you picked the right game for your tastes. Although, I enjoy NBA 2k8 MUCH more than Live, I do believe that Live this year is solid.

EA made a solid attempt this year, and got the groundwork laid for the series which is what they can build from.

The faces of the players look exceptional, and there is a very distinct feel to the game.

You have to understand when people say "sim" they mean they want to play a game that mimics the NBA players and atmosphere as closely as possible. This means:

- Animations (dribbling, shooting, driving (dunking/layup)

- Atmosphere (arena, commentary, crowds)

- A.I

- Rebounding

- Passing

I can go on. But when you look at these, NBA 2k8 DESTROYS Live in every category...... except the commentary. Live's commentary is the best in-game commentarty I have ever heard.

Now this does not mean that Live is not a decent/good game. Quite the contrary........ Live is not bad by any means...... It would be better to say that the 2k series is more refined/fine-tuned over the years.

As bad as Live 07 was, there was no way EA (or any company for that matter) could close the gap in 1 year. The main reason for this is that the 2k series keeps improving (and making dramatic improvements to the A.I) gameplay. If you go back and compare just the A.I. of NBA 2k5 to NBA 2k8 there is a HUGE difference.

Case in point, on the demo of Live 08 (which I played 30+ hours of and enjoyed), it was VERY rare the Spurs would postup with Tim Duncan. Now a person who just wants to have a good expereience is not going to care about a detail like that. A "sim" person is going to consider that as huge, because that is an INTEGRAL part of what makes the Spurs who they are Tim Duncan. In the 2k demo, they went to Duncan consistenly, and their offense flowed from him.

The 2k series is filled with moments and gameplay elements that take into account alot of details that a "sim" person views as important.

So I do not find it hard to believe that people like Live 08. And you should not feel bad for doing so.

Nah, It has more to do with the fact that they put out crap games the last 2 years. People on this site love the good EA efforts like MVP, Tiger Woods, NCAA, Fight Night. When you put out crap for two straight years and try to sell it for 60 bucks people tend to resent that. Still, this years game looks solid.

For those that have played it can you tell us how accurate the rosters are? Are there any major missing players? I hope Allen Houston is put on the Free Agent pool (I doubt it).

Live is better this year, but for that true and basketball game its still NBA 2K8 hands down.

Glad to hear some people agree with me.
To whoever said NBA 2k8 destroys nba live in every category is an idiot. NBA 2k8 is a solid game no doubt, but destroys NBA Live I dont think so, its a lot closer than that. This is just my two cents, 2k fanboys please don't go off on me for this, but I grew up on ps2 ea sports games so when I bought NBA 2k7 for my 360 last year it was just different. It's like the computer is controlling you a little more or something. I think Live plays pretty smooth and is actually quite like an NBA game.

I played some head to head today and the games were outstanding. This game is pure fun without a doubt. There are some things that could've been done better but i love the controll i have of my players.

the online games I've played have been flat out fun. Best experience from EA yet in terms of options and performance. I think head-to-head hides some of the frustrating aspects of the game which may be why I feel it plays better overall h2h when comparing to against the CPU.
