Re: Steph....any word on a new roster update ??

The last couple years, Lives roster updates have been AWFUL. I know what you guys expect (as I do too) I just don't get why you expect it at this point. If you have the 360, go with tombas roster update, it's sure to be above and beyond anything that the development team releases. Don't you guys know they have priorities???? Their bread winner (Madden) has to be tweaked and updated every day of the year!!!! It's obvious that's the only game they care about.

edit: I would guess there isn't a hurdle, so much as a contemptness with the game, as is. Face it, they've given us fans a garbage product for several years, up until this point. And now that a majority of fans are more or less satisfied with Live 08 "as is", they have no need to change or fix anything about it. I think Live 08 is a good game, but a big part of me feels that way simply because they've been feeding me garbage for the last 3 years. Anything would have been an upgrade from what they released before. Sorry for the rant.

Did the Wii version ever get a roster update? I was so psyched for that game. Then it came out without many of the features of the other next gen games.

        Not the case at all.

Tomba, I'm pretty optimistic about them adding players, but I'd be foolish if I promised that to you guys.

You will for sure see the trades that have happened and when the update comes out, I'd really appreciate you guys breaking it down like you always do and telling me what's wrong with it.

The addition of created people like Jamario or I guess Dj Strawberry not being in the game because of balancing and what you rate them and blah blah blah is ok I suppose...

But 2 examples of "Why weren't they just copied over" is Luis Scola and Juan Carlos Navarro. They are both in the game on their countries teams, why can't they just move them over.

Honestly at this point it just feels like I am wasting finger power trying to talk sense into it

They will be in the game for 09 most likely

Unfortunately, that is the impression EA sports leaves. You can't honestly tell me that EA sports doesn't give more attention to Madden Football than any other game they release. That certainly IS the case. Madden gets released at midnight, nation wide, gets a ridiculous amount of hype and then gets roster updates and patches on a bi weekly basis for the first couple months after release. What has Live gotten? One roster update, which was irrelevant at that. How many players did it add? Two? Where are the FIBA updates that were promised?

Steph, I appreciate your input as much as the next guy, but this game isn't the great game that fans were promised. It's playable, yes, but it has more than its share of faults, as you know. If it weren't for Tomba's roster updates and slider changes, I'm not sure I'd even be playing this game anymore!

Steph, I know you're taking some heat, but you have to expect it to a certain degree. By posting here as an EA rep and trying to help out with this and that, you've more or less dubbed yourself as the "EA NBA Live guy" here at O.S. You have to face that fact that there aren't a whole lot of people who are real happy with where this series was and more importantly, where it is now. It should be a sad day at EA SPORTS when someone who posts online at O.S. is both able and willing to create all the missing players and tweak the game to a level that makes it both more playable and better to look at, for ALL 360 owners of the game. For someone to use their personal time to do this for the owners of the game, while Live developers sit on their thumbs and do nothing, says alot about the attitude of the developers of the franchise. This isn't something anyone who buys the game should have to do to make it more enjoyable. Developers should be ashamed.

I respect you and all, and I don't know what level of employment you have at EA, but it just seems like you do alot of asking advice on this and that and then you tell us that you're going to report the feedback to the developers, and then what? Nothing, we don't hear anything about it again! Case in point: A while back I had a loading issue, which I spoke to you about. You told me you contacted the EA team and then told me it wasn't a problem that could be duplicated, therefore there was nothing that could be done...I thought you couldn't be serious...."It couldn't be duplicated"???? How about the tons of people who were complaining about this problem on websites like this, as well as in professional reviews of the game? And it couldn't be duplicated? It just went to show me that EA didn't care enough to release any information about the problem and never attempted to appease me, the consumer who paid $60.00 for the product! Outrageous is what it was.

You're presence here is more than welcome. Don't let a little heat knock you over. It's not so much directed towards you, as it is to EA in general. As fans of basketball and basketball video games, NBA Live has let down consumers time and time again and that's on them.

It's no worries again. I'm not ever hiding anything from any of you. The LIVE developers are very much doing something right now....

                        Creating NBA LIVE 09

It's never a fact of the dev team going "we wish to screw everyone who's paid 60 bucks for NBA LIVE 08." If they had the time to fix all of the issues people come up with (this goes for all games), they would. They simply don't.

I don't expect anyone to understand that b/c they don't have the luxury of sitting in the studio seeing it on a daily basis. BUT-- I do expect to be believed. I have no reason to lie. I can honestly tell you that I would never come to OS if I were paid to lie to you guys. It's like a mouse walking into a Lion's cage here. I'm not stupid...I know what OS is.

It's one thing for people to mess with their own rosters and create players and make them the way they want to. It's another thing to code things into an overall build, and hope it goes right for Microsoft and Sony to approve so that the update can go out.

Man don't go anywhere, you cool with me and have been doing us a justice by at least keeping us informed.

People patience was worn thin, way before you go here. Live's other team never gave us anything besides 2 crappy next gen games. And no response to our rants.

Don't let the minor disputes or arguments run you astray. There are some of us, Me, Tomba, Whittle, Pared, WTF and a few more than like the fact that you are bring us info and gave us a good Live game this year.

Stick around and we'll continue the friendship. And hopefully the upcoming patches, additions will help the popularity grow.

It's really no problem. It's a serious question for you guys. I'm here to collect feedback, report issues, and interact with all of you.

If you get an answer like "the team can't duplicate it, that's what they told me." I'm telling you the truth aren't I?

Imagine what it's like to go to our dev team everytime a "joel0078" (just using your name as an example) has an issue with something in our game. It's a piece of software and wacky things happen all of the time. That's beside the fact though. I do understand where people are coming from b/c I was there too.

But I think it's also important to understand how companies are. The dev team is VERY busy (I can assure you) working on NBA LIVE 09 every day. The minute LIVE 08 is done, they start working on LIVE 09 (I expect you guys to know this better than anyone). If we have the resources to fix problems, we will. If we don't, we can't b/c they are devoted to NBA LIVE 09.

Once again...It's never an issue of the dev team wanting to help you. They do.

As far as player lock is concerned you may as well not be here. I have written half a dozen questions about NBA Live's Player locking option, and I have not gotten one reply.

Did you know that the player lock in NBA Live 2008 is broken? If you have a player that plays multiple positions the player lock will sometimes cause you to switch players. When the player resumes his normal position you are still stuck at the 2nd position. The only way to fix it is to pause the game and go into the menu.

Did you know that NBA Live 06 for Gamecube and PS2 had working player locks, yet the 2008 versions of both titles don't? I read some where that it was a space issue. Speaking of space...

Did you know that the Gamecube version of NBA 2006 had a full dynasty mode and create a player all on a tiny 1.5 gb disc? The Wii Version doesn't have either on a 4.7 gb DVD. What is up with that? Seriously, what is up with that?

We like having you here. It gives us hope. It makes us feel that somehow someway, maybe the next version of Live will be better than the last. The problem is that we don't know what you realistically can do, or what you honestly can not do. Please, help us understand your position with EA so we can stop badgering you with unrealistic ideas and expectations.

Steph, I get what you're saying....."The development team is working on 09 as soon as 08 is released"...Thats all well and great... But that can't be used as an excuse to write the game off for the rest of the year, especially when Madden is getting updates and patches frequently. I expect their development team is working on Madden 09 as soon as 08 was released too. In addition to that, I'm sure the 2K development team is working on their next release too...But the difference is that Madden and 2K have been giving updates and patches, whereas Live seems to have been forgotten about.

It's a good game out of the box. But one person updated the rosters and tweaked the sliders and made it an even better game. That shouldn't be a consumers responsibility to do. It should be the best game possible, "out of the box". It just bothers me that you sit here and tell us 09 is being worked on right now which basically leaves no time for 08 to be paid attention to, meanwhile Madden got more patches/roster updates within the first month of it's release, than I've seen in all of the next generation Live series since the 360 came out. That's unacceptable.
