Re: game trailer vid w/ some game play
i have to admit a couple of years ago i thought ea would (should) just close down the live franchise and get out of the basketball game market, the game was that bad and that far behind the competition. live 09 is looking good and with the innovations it could make a strong comeback. with that being said all this dna and fresh daily stuff won't mean jack if the gameplay is not there...Comment

LOL, this video is an unfinished version for real.
Anyone check out Tmac chasing whoever that is on the screen?
Look at his shoes, and how they arent even connected to his body, but they're still running and propelling his body like invisible magnets.Comment

Re: game trailer vid w/ some game play
Hate to be so negative, but this showed me nothing. Every year all this is shown in slow-motion, everything looks good in slow-motion. Speed it up and let's see the player movement then I might be a little more positive. Peace!!!The poster formerly know as "FLIGHTWHITE"Comment

Re: game trailer vid w/ some game play
THeyve taken a huge undertaking here imo. Tendencies is one thing. something that has taken many teams 2-3 years to just get working in the fabric of the gameplay. were talking static tendencies... But ever changing tendencies, for both teams and players takes on so much more. computer teams used to have instructed into them, a set # of exact plays to run for that player. it was scripted. this has free flowing execution written all over it. you have two obstacles. not only how well the tendencies FUNCTION in the game as gameplay, but the decision making process to alter those tendencies.. do they become concrete in the CPU players mind that I HAVE TO DRIVE because my tendency is at 100, because the game before i let them drive. Does the OPPOSING team who youll be facing next contribute to the tendency decision process? Chris paul may have had a 100 tendency to drive in that one game, but against that other team, does he force the issue?? this can get to be complicated stuff. the last thing we need is a scripted feeling, knowing that CP will drive no matter what.... losing the game for that team
ive asked for many years when they had Q&As before the games released with the delopvers that if im in franchise mode in year three and the CPU drafts a # 1 certain type of player, will there team change the calls and how it plays? Can it immediately go from slowing it down into the paint, and into a more open court team? every year the answer has been the same. considering that one of 2k8s limitations is that playbooks are locked into your team, that if in year 4 youre team may longer not even need plays for the SG, which is half of your team.. so to have the CPU recognize that and recommend you plays, i assume the CPI AI on the other side will do the same.
throw out the nba 365 idea for dynasty players, that dynamic DNA is where its at. execution will be a challenge. have they been holding this back for 4 years? this is something that 2k9 wouldve gradually evolved into.
live has taken 3-4 takes UPward... how small will that fall be?Last edited by RubenDouglas; 07-15-2008, 02:26 PM.Comment

Re: game trailer vid w/ some game play
Well Wally, depends on if its implemented right and i agree that would be great for the CPU to make on the fly adjustments to the playbooks and who plays are run for and at what times of the game.
Again, it all depends on if they implement it correctly if it can be done, it will truly be a nex gen feature, and it can/will keep the gameplay fresh alone from the unpredictable unscripted-ness of the code.
That's a big IF right now though.Comment

Re: game trailer vid w/ some game play
another thing i just got to thinking about. will player tendencies also FOCUS on future/current opponents, there defense, and ratings of players.
I dont want suddenly confident scrub PF who for the past 10 games was playing against some of the worst teams in the east, to get a tendency boost which will have him attempting more shots than EVER against a new opponent featuring a dominate PF prescence in a tim duncan. this guy may have had 15 pts in each of the past games but now hes facing a real opponent. does that tendency override the opponents numbers and the FACT that he's shooting 0 of 20 in the game? is there recognition in any regard?
you really open a can of worms here. Hot and cold streaks are fine, thats from past games and does reflect how a player is shooting.. BUT past tendencies should NOT neccersarily reflect how a player was playing and SHOULD be playing, as each opponent they face may be different.
tendencies for the most part are about CURRENT opponents, off of past experiences against like teams. A kobe bryant may face three straight games where they can EASILY fastbreak all game and drive.. now in game 4, hes facing the pistons, where he CANT so easily drive? recognition and a non scripted feel is key. will he play like how the tendenacies may be now, with a skew against those crappy teams? trying to force the issue making the AI suck and be extra sloppy or predictable??
sounds almost too good to be true. I need to ground my expectations of what I can truely expect to see. my mind has gone wondering again.
Id almost much rather see tendencies within the confines of a teams player ratings, and its opponents ratings. Im talking a dynamic shift PREGAME... I want to see the cpu recgonize that chris paul is being guarded by old sam cassell.. its true player ratings may dictate how well he can score, but it should be set into the tendenacies for that game, that he may be able to score alittle easier... and have that dynamic tendency change with whomever is guarding him. I want the CPU to see that CPU chris bosh is being guarded by my scrub center, and maybe for that ONE game, be dynamically changed and geared into getting bosh more points. now this is where tendencies come into play.
THATS DYNAMIC DNA to me... past games can only get you so far imo.Last edited by RubenDouglas; 07-15-2008, 03:02 PM.Comment

So it may not see the matchup as soon as the game starts but as the game goes on it will pick up on things that are working and run more plays to exploit that weak part in the defense.
For instance one of the developers said that if one of your players is hot from the three point line the DNA feature will pick up on that and choose more plays for you to run to get him more three point shots.Comment
