    The little things thread

Even though EA let us down with the online play especially regarding the broken fastbreaks all day. Ill be the first to admit you guys did get things right and many other different areas.

I like the emotion in the game. I'm not sure how you guys coded it but some animations are repeated while I haven't seen others too often. I love the atmosphere of the game especially in tight games closing out the fourth quarter. You'll see your bench standing up and excited. The crowd is great in these situations as well as they get extremely loud especially with there chants of DEFENSE!!!! I was in a close game today and I drove in the lane with Iverson and hit a nice layup with contact but got no foul to put me up 2. You could see Iverson shaking his hands and screaming relentlessly, that was my first time seeing that animation. Nice touch, but don't stop there continue to add on to this. For example, I havent saw an And 1 where that get extremely excited.

I also love the close out animations, this was a great addition and adds to the defensive side of the ball. Sometimes when someone is running towards me on the outside it's hard to tell if there just closing out or about to attempt the block. Which definitely forces me to not take the shot sometimes.

I also like when your guard is back off of the man he is guarding, he looks to the left and right every now and then to see what's going on. These little things add to a good atmosphere and feel as if your actually playing a real game a basketball. Nice touch

The cuts to the basket are extremely nice. You can see a wing man cutting to the basket and you hit him in stride for an easy dunk if no one is around. The whole transition is really smooth from the cut to the pass to the dunk.

Feel free to add on to the little things that you have noticed within the game.

I love the way "broken" plays work...how the CPU adjusts...

They run a play...it breaks down due to your D... but the CPU does as the real NBA players do and ISO their star / or spread the ball and look for the 'best shot'.

Other games have been guilty of the CPU going through with the play regardless.

I also love the way the CPU superstars use their SIG moves...they really stand out.

      Great observations!

I agree with a lot of it, and to be honest, I think most of us on the forums have been so disheartened by what we want Live to be sometimes that we lack appreciation in some of the other things it does very well. This on top of the spacing that's been mentioned and the development of the Rewind and 365 is really working hard on making Live what it use to be.

One of the things I mentioned in another post before was that they should expanded on the on court audio. I wanna hear Kobe and Lebron shout out when they get hit in the lane. I wanna hear Rasheed mouth off to the refs. How about "I Love L.A." after a Lakers win or "De-Troit Basket-Ball!!" at the Pistons game. Overall, don't just make the game authentic, make the teams and players authentic too.

        Re: The little things thread

        - hop animations when transitioning from offense to defense or vice-versa (though sometimes a bit overdone and slow)

        - players pointing on offense and defense, makes it seem like they are communicating out there, organized basketball

        - like bls said, head movements are well done

        - post, kick out, then repost animation sequence

        - commentary recognizing team injuries, hot/cold players

        - lockdown-d anims are really nice, like bodying-up players on the perimeter. also the anims for both passer and defender when passing out of a "bodied-up" state are nice

        - this rarely happens, but when it does, it's a thing of beauty: when the offensive player is bodied up, and I told turbo/qsa trigger as I start my dribble and go in one direction, sometimes an anim will occur where I will bump him off/shove him off with my free arm, resulting in an offensive foul. sometimes also, this results in a blocking foul

        - when a pick is set, holding down the turbo/qsa trigger while going in the direction of the pick will result in an agressive and almost perfectly lined up use of the pick, much different from when crossing the pick without holding the trigger

Agreed, esp with the patch. Before, I used to swing the ball around to Radman, and when the defender is coming a bit late, I can shoot right away expecting just a running close-out, two hands in the air anim (or the running gather then block anim, which never worked and thankfully seemed like it was removed with the patch). Post patch, I would do the same play, but to my surprise one time the defender jumped and blocked my shot. Had me thinking twice.

They also have a nice "put your hand in the shooter's face" anim, but sadly, it doesn't happen freqeuntly. Instead it's mostly the "two hands in the air where the right hand is higher than the left" anim, which actually leaves a good amount of space between the shooter and the defender still.

Good ones bluesman. I really like the lockdown interaction between the defender and the ball carrier as well. And you get good at the lockdown D, you'll start seeing the animations where you cut the defender off his path when you guess which direction hes going in.

But I love the interaction between the palyers in general from the lock down D to the post battles for position, the screens and fighting to get around them. All this adds to the atmosphere and feel of a real basketball game.

I also love the block animations. Theres many different ones and I like how some hard blocks have the ball flying all over the place lol.

-Block layup/dunk animations at the rim. They are so varied.

-The 'draw a charge' animation. The CPU was driving to the hole yesterday and my CPU controlled defender got in that animation to draw the charge and the CPU basically jumped through him, drawing a blocking foul. It was a thing of beauty. I have started using this alot more (hold the trigger Left).

-Alley-oops. They just feel and look right.

-The one-handed push-off animation that doesn't get called as an offensive foul.

-Power dunkers can bend the rim on dunks. Finesse dunkers can't. I had Nate Robinson bend the rim and slap the backboard yesterday Wanted to save the replay.

That push off animation does get called for an offensive foul as well. Had it called on me. That's a thing of beauty.

Continue to add more penalties such as over the back fouls, traveling, illegal picks, etc.

Here's an example of the contact animations during lockdown (I was using the Cavs):

Actually, it's the first time that I've seen the defender fall. Usually they just get bumped/pushed off. No call on this though.

I was playing the kings in dynasty mode, and assigned a double team to kevin martin from the opening tip off.

At the begining of the game, he was getting himself trapped, chucking up forced shots, or the cpu was having dudes like Beno Udrih or Mikki Moore, taking shots, which is exactly what I wanted.

As the game went on the CPU got more aggressive and creative in getting Martin his shots.

He would shoot off of cuts to the basket, or would shoot right off of the catch before the double got there. I "held" him off enough, he scored 14 pts, and I won the game, but I was pleased to see that the CPU didnt just allow the guy to get trapped all game.

I'm talking about the ones that do not get called an offensive foul. Like, it's good that they let us/CPU get away with it sometimes.

                        ^ agreed with both points.

I do notice you will get called for an offensive say if you're Dwight trying to post up and back down from too far out of the key (if you're forcing the backdown to get inside). That means youre out of position and doing something Dwight would likely never do.

It really is a nice balance.

YES!! I know exactly what you mean Sportguy. It works in reverse too! I was playing AS the Kings and Martin was my go-to guy for the first half, just killin' em with 18 pts. In the second half they brought Double-Team help over almost every time and he ended up with only 26 pts on the game. I dig that.

I had a pretty sweet block on a dunk in my Pacers versus Bobcat game. It was actually one of the moments when I jumped out of my chair yelling "OHHHHHH!!".
