    Double Team Mechanic Idea...Opinions?

I posted this in the 2k forums, but I'm an equal opportunity suggester, lol. I'm not ready to make the switch yet, but I do appreciate the strides Live has made, so I'm looking forward to next year. That having been said, I don't know how the double teams work in Live, but this was an idea I came up with when thinking about 2k's hit and miss double team mechanic.

Let me know what you think from a Live perspective.

    New Double Team controls
    LB(engage double team)
Once double team is engaged, you control it with the right stick.
    Up-Pressure shot
    Down-Swipe for steal
Right-Pressure body- may result in drawing charge, out of bounds, travel or foul
Left-hands active for passing lanes - will result in tipped, stolen or errant passes.

The counters for the double team
First and foremost, passing or shooting very early will give the highest chance of success.

    Shooting while engaged

Shooting will draw a foul if the defender is swiping.

Shooting will result in off balance shot if defender is bodying or drawing a shooting foul if the timing is perfect and the defender's awareness is very low.

Shooting will result in a lower percentage, but makeable shot if the defender is playing for the pass.

Shooting will result in a terrible shot if the defender is pressing UP to pressure. Makes only occur with the best players, if they are hot, and only in a very low percentage.

    Passing while engaged

Passing will result in a turnover if the opponent is swiping.

Passing will result in a turnover, errant pass or tipped pass if the opponent is playing the lane. Pass result depends on the timing of both the pass and the swipe.

Passing will result in a catchable, but inaccurate pass if defender is applying body pressure. Teammates will catch the ball, but they will have to move to catch and not be in a position to catch and shoot. Cross court passes will be more dangerous than normal in a pressure situation. Great passers may make a good pass in this situation

Passing will result in an accurate pass if the opponent is pressuring for the shot.

The longer you remain engaged in the double team, the greater the percentages shift in the defense's favor. The quicker you react to the double team, the better chance you have of drawing the foul or making a successful pass or shot.

sounds pretty solid. like all the available options. let me think on what those controls would mean to other controls during gameplay.

Yup, the more options, the better. I want the double teams to be more like a mini-game in itself. Good suggestions.

Btw, in relation to that, I made a thread a while back about passing out of double teams, and a new perimeter double team mechanic:

The more animations are put into the game, the more mini games, the worse the game becomes. An option to call for a double team is fine. But launching animations and mini games takes away from player control.

But didn't his suggestions actually add more player control?

Yeah, right now double teaming results in a mini cut scene. Given the choice...
