Ughh is defense at all possible in this game!

Seriously it seems like the ratings don't matter at all, you either block the shot or they make the shot. Why is Jeff Foster dominating Bynum everytime down the court?

And it doesn't matter if you have two guys with hands in their face they drain the shot, defense in this game is pure luck and takes the human control completely out of it. Worst of all I just had a game freeze with 1 minute left with a tied game, after I just came back from 17 down

I came back from 12 down only to suddenly not be able to make any basket and to have the CPU Pistons become unstoppable.

On one of their possessions I trapped Iverson in a corner, the shot clock hit one, he threw up a shot fading away over two defenders, swish three.

On another possession I blocked Wallace's shot, it flew out of bounds, then suddenly there was a flash and the ball was flying into the basket.

On another possession I had Iverson trapped, he passed the ball directly through one of the defenders to Wallace. As the shot clock expired Wallace's shot was blocked, but again flash, suddenly the ball was flying into the basket.

On my offense (I played locked) my guys were basically just throwing the ball right to Detroit. On one possession Gooden threw a pass directly to Wallace, I stripped the ball from him only to basically lose control of my player who ran directly out of bounds despite me pulling the stick in the other direction.

On another possession I took a shot that was blocked out of bounds. But Detroit got the ball, it was ruled out of bounds on me even though the replay clearly showed a Detroit player blocking it out of bounds.

fjccommish, did you try calling a timeout? The momentum can be insane to the point of being ridiculous in both 2K9 and Live 09, but calling timeouts usually helps. Sometimes I can make teams go COLD in Live just by calling well-timed timeouts.

I never call timeouts, but it's good advice. Momentum that changes reality, turning a block into FLASH a basket sure is insane. Literally the ball was blocked out of bounds, and it's like the game just replayed the play, making it a basket.

I haven't played enough Live to experience this, but I definitely lost enough games in 2k series to know that its really their way of telling you to either call a TO or take a loss. Typically i'm stubborn about bending to the game's mechanics and what you get is a bunch of unrealistic stuff, though what you described is more blatant than 2k9, which does at least put up a mask of realism. Anyway there are some threads a few pages back talking about defense in this game and how its a long road if you're a 2k convert but at some point defense is defense, no?
