    What i dont understand....

I dont get the defense in this game. Im talking strictly about online because thats pretty much all i play. Ive tried man-to-man, all different types of zones and no matter what i do ANY player the opposition uses just can dribble at will through my defense for a lay up or dunk. Ive tried controlling the center to just try and clog up the middle but it doesnt do anything different. I dont know if im doing something wrong because i cant just run around without any problems against the guy im playing but my guys stand around looking at his players with the ball.

You think maybe its the team i use? I use the Heat and before the Jermaine O'Neal trade we didnt have much interior defense. But its so much worse than that in the game. Its like their playing 5 on 2 its so easy for them to score. Am i doing something wrong? or is this just the nature of the online play?

Any help would be appreciated because im just getting frustrated losing by 15-20 each game

    Re: What i dont understand....

Online defense is tricky, if you are playing a scrub then you will hold them like you are defending NBA champs, if you are playing someone good it won't matter what you do they can exploit the baseline or exploit the shifting double team to score on you every single time.

Hopefully game changes in Live 10 will help prevent this like the changes from 08 to 09 pretty much helped

Most people online like to attack either from the baseline or straight up the middle.

So make sure you have some good defense players out there that can block and alter shots. If not than u gotta go with height.

Referring to the people that like to go baseline or straight up the middle you gotta try to take charges. Most people run around frantic spinning and all that. Play off of them and force them to shot the outside shot (Gotta play the percentages). If they try to drive, try for the charge sometimes.

For people that like to put Kobe, Tmac, and Lebron at PG switch to zones. Do not play man D. Try to force them to your shot blockers side and if they try to drive baseline anticipate it and take the charge.

If all else fails, play man and change the double team to yes for whomever the user your playing keeps going to and force them to beat u with someone else.

      Hope this helps.

Elaborating further on what I was talking about above. You really wanna make sure u find the right defenders that fit your defensive scheme. This might require exchanging offense for defense. For instance, I base my starting lineups according to the team Im playing. I run with the Pistons and there not as good defensively as they use to be and there small as well. If I play the Lakers I normally start Brown for size. On the other hand, if I play a team like the Raptors I match up better against them so Ill roll with Mcdyess.

Now what Ive noticed about this game and something they can take even further with 10 as far as seperating defenders and giving them identity is, the CPU actually peforms according to there ratings defensively in certain areas. Iverson has a high steal and intercept rating so oppponents that pass the ball his way he normally goes for alot of steals. Mcdyess is good with help defense while you'll see the CPU draw charges with Maxiell. So depending on what your looking for out there on the court is how you'll arrange your lineups. Dont be afraid to try out a player you probably never used before cause he just might get the job done for you. So check out the ratings of players on your team from there box out rating to footwork in the post rating and etc...and adjust accordingly.

          Re: What i dont understand....

Thanks for the replys so far. Ive tried switching up the defenses during the game. Usually Man doesnt work so ive tried the 2-3 and 3-2 zones. Sometimes those help and sometimes no one comes over to help on defense. Its frustrating. I wish that the defenders would realize someone is driving to the basket and would collapse on them.

I havent tried backing off and using the charge with them, that might be my next guess. Right now, sometime i try to play tight on them locked on, and they nudge past me and once their past me its over because no one else comes over to help once he gets by. And if i just play off of him he drives to the basket basically uncontested because its like there no pressure on him. Very frustrating.

It is frustrating for sure but at least it will most likely get better.

Every now and then (maybe 2 out of 10 games) I play someone that is just AWESOME at sim style and the game is fun as heck

I played one yesterday and it was a great game.. then I played a cheesing exploiter next lol go figure
