NBA Live 07 where they went right and where they went completely wrong!
INTRODUCTION

Today I will be showing you videos and over 159 in game images of Live 07 and try to determine where they went right and wrong with the series.
Now we all remember the articles and petitions of how bad NBA Live 07 was and how the Live Nation went into an uproar on how they would stop buying EA products if the series didn’t improve or at least show some effort. Especially when the competition, 2ksports seemed to be going in the right direction and were constantly taking over the market! But while everyone was complaining about what was so wrong with the game, no one took the time to say what was good about it. In this segment I will definitely point out the good in this game, beginning with graphics, then to the gameplay and then on to the presentation and features.
GRAPHICS
One thing that can honestly be said about Live 07’s graphics is they were nice, and the player’s faces were much more accurate in this game than Live 08 and 09 combined. From the way the models faces and nose features were accurate, down to there tattoo’s and body accessories. The eyes and depth of their chins and lips etc. were all very accurate and realistic with correct shading and more. Whoever did the art this year should be given many props, because he really took the time to capture even the smallest players and the rookies as well, I have images of Devin Harris, and J.J. Redick and the level of detail of these guys are just simply ridiculous.
Also the crowd models were much more detailed, with tons of team apparel and fans of all races and sex. Men and women fans, with multiple models it’s just a nice touch of detail. Also the stadiums are accurate in Live 07, kind of strange how no one captured that or mentioned it, not just the court floors but the actual stadiums, from seat sections down to the gateways and doors. Stadium lighting was good and it was different in each stadium to give a much more realistic glare to what the real stadiums looked like from a televised view.
A few things that are bad about the graphics, are the blurring of the backgrounds and the thickness to the player models. Also the lack of cheerleaders and mascots, do draw away to making the sidelines a bit bare. And the additional fluff that they give their jersey’s is absolutely terrible and makes them super big.
GAMEPLAY
When it comes to gameplay this game is hit and miss, out the box it is a tragedy of all proportions, from poor defensive A.I., to dunks from behind the backboard.
PLAYMAKERS SLIDERS
The only thing PM’s sliders help this game, is by pacing the game, and also making the computer finally miss. Also they give you realistic game stats while finishing quarters and halves and on 12 minutes the scores coming out realistic. Some of the gameplay quirks that plague the game couldn’t be repaired with just sliders, because it was programming.
But was this game as bad as everyone made it out to be, I think not! For many reasons and if the development team would have kept building on what was here they would have had a great game in 08, and 09. I won’t go into anymore what is wrong, because the reviews and forums beat this game up. But they didn’t say anything that was right. So let me point out some things that were definitely right.
- Ball rim physics, rim shots, backboard shots etc. Made it into Live 07
- Graphics and skin tones were perfect, along with facial features and models.
- Crowd interaction was amazing and absolutely the best so far, not to mention model details went backwards on 08 and 09.
- Commentary was much more accurate and more televised in 07. Seems 08 and 09 were toned down.
- Characters licensed and individual signature accessories were in the game. Just peep out Vince Carter’s VC logo arm band along with many other players.
- Facial reactions to plays and fouls were in the game
- Free style was beginning here, then got worse in 08 and repaired in 09.
- Shoes and overall accessories were accurate in this game.
Those are just a few things that were definitely done right! Below I will post 5 gameplay videos! Along with 160 photos just to see the overall detail in this game and show why it was the best looking in the series, but the gameplay just need better programming and it would have been even better.
With sliders the game is good and it’s fun, but with longer and better programming and just a few touch up. This game as a base, would have set a open door for 08 and 09.
