Is it possible for any game to replicate that players don't always shoot the same?

Below are two videos that show LeBron jump shots that aren't shot with his usual hitch (0:22 for the second one)

Would it be possible for any game at all to somehow replicate the fact that a player's form is not always the same on every shot? The closest thing we have to that now is set shots being differentiated from leaners and fadeaways. But could we ever get multiple set shots for one player depending on momentum, distance, time, etc?

I've thought about this, but it would be extremely complicated to program plus you have to figure in user control as well.

Probably something we won't start seeing until the developers are able to get a handle of whatever hardware the next generation of consoles are going to be equipped with ( i.e. 4-7 years).

Paul Pierce is another good example. His 3 pt shot is a lot diff' from his midrange jumper.

I think they can probably give players 2-3 different shots, like a set shot and off balance jumpers like a pull up jumper. I have no idea how they program and do all that sig stuff but how much different can that be to say signature dunks or free throws or go to moves.

I'm not sure if it was Live or not, but I know on one of the pre-next gen consols, if you tapped the shot button or didn't hold on your follow through, you got a very awkward looking shot which had a low rating in percentage as compared to hitting that perfect release point.

I'd believe that that would be the closest to giving a player two different types of shots. One with a nice fluid release (closer to there true form but harder to acheive) and one where the release isn't quite on point (giving you a shorter animation or different animation altogether)

But then I'd guess the question would be do you change player shot animations or release animations?

Actually if you read the espn article it states the following
"This year, the Synergy stats will dictate how guys shoot in the game. Everything from how guys shoot the ball when they're open, to how they shoot the 3, to how they shoot off the bounce, to how they shoot when they're contested, to how they shoot from the post.
Well, its not that detailed but its a start

Tendencies, not animations they're talkin about

Good thread. I've always thought about that too.

Some guys like Steve Nash like to shoot a lot of floaters, leaners, and offbalance shots. In video games, he always squares up and shoots the same way every time. I would like to see a lot of variation.

Same with Kobe, and guys like Wade. They hit a lot of different angles, leaners, and use footwork to get off a variety of shots.

This is just nitpicking, but I would like to see different shot animations.

Especially for when you need a quick shot, as opposed to a regular jumpshot.
