    Question about collisions in Live 10

    I have concerns with this video ("Rondo Ripped" video):

    </EMBED>

    When Ray Allen goes to block the layup at the end of the video, there is no contact - Allen literally "slips" around the other player in mid air and his trajectory actually shifts to the right. Rather than collide with the other player, Allen's entire body is literally pushed sideways by a force field that surrounds the guy laying it in. In reality, if ray allen goes up at that trajectory, he would slam into the other player in mid air and it woud be a hard collision and a foul.

    I have seen a lot of these "force field" scenarios where the guy with the ball causes the defender to "slip & slide" around him rather than make contact with him. This worries me. I can see this becoming very frustrating. If I am on defense and I step in front of a ball handler to block his path and he magically shifts his body around my player to score, I will be throwing my controller a lot when playing this game.

    Will there be more collisions on harder difficulty levels, or will the collisions be the same no matter what? Can EA add a slider that can adjust the realism of the collisions?

    I agree bad physics and gameplay takes away from your knowledge,skill,and ablility to play a game. And that is a good example just like when ea shipped live 09 a knew that the lock d was a cheap way to keep people from getting to the basket and killing your first step and was flawed badly.

        I'm not sure I agree with this. I don't think physics should vary depending on difficulty level. Physics and realism should be consistent on all difficulty levels. If the difficulty level is easier, the CPU players should simply react slower and not be as "smart." The CPU AI and it's awareness should decrease on easier difficulty, but not the actual realism of the physics (such as collisions)

        So, I guess the important question is: (in reference to the video I mentioned above), if the that same game was being played on a harder difficulty, would that layup have ended in a collision rather than a "slip & slide" force field deflection?

          Blues I don't think what you saw will be completely eliminated on the higher levels but that it may not happen as often. I can see this being one of those issues where ea says they have "more" contact animations on the higher levels and we get the game and see one instance of this at a higher level and all hell breaks loose.

          but of course I don't know anymore than you do so....

            I agree with you but I am sure the collision(correct me if I am wrong marcus, mike, garreth) is more of a canned animation(s). Probably not full physics with both bodies reacting to one another. Which (if it is a canned animation) would get really annoying if every other drive to the basket was met by a collision animation which altered your shot, etc...

              You have a point there....

                I shouldn't speak for Beluba here, but essentially the chance of a collision gets higher the higher the difficulty. On Rookie you have an easier chance of getting to the rim, but Superstar you need to really analyze where the defenders are.

                  Can you add a slider so we can adjust the collision frequency independently of the difficulty level? This way the gamer can control the collision sensitivity to fit their preference.

                  Another slider that would be nice is a slider that controls the effectiveness of contesting shots. a "contested shots" slider - this way, if a defender is right in a shooter's face and contests the shot, the shot will not go in if this slider is turned down.

                    I like that decision a lot. So noob players can get to the rim more often and get an easy dunk whereas hardcore gamers (we^^) have a more realistic balance. If it works out thats fine for me.

                      Yeah, I can work with that. I hope the CPU is much more of a challenge.
