Re: My Gamescom Demo Video
1. Yes, the baseline exploit has been addressed. It was a royal pain to fix by the way. Our AI guys basically had to rewrite our onball defense positioning logic as well as a good portion of the help defense in order to squash the problem. The overall defensive AI is much more solid as a result though.
2. Transition defense was also completely rewritten and it is very strong. The proper guys get back to anchor the defense, we upgraded our check switch/pickup logic, and there's no cheap boost to the speed of defenders in order to properly defend the break. Being able to properly implement individual player speed in our locomotion engine and our integration of NCAA's team tempo feature really did wonders for our transition game.
3. Yeah, giving the user the ability to manually boxout and rebound was one of the highest priorities in our rewrite of the rebounding logic this year. It was something I personally found controller-throwing frustrating in 09 so trust me when I say it got the focus it deserves.
4. Zone defense works effectively in Live this year if you use it against the right teams and with the proper personnel. I wouldn't say it's overly effective but it does work well against certain teams. The logic and positioning of the players is very realistic. I thank our NCAA guys for that because they focus on zone defense much more than we do... and now that we're on a true common engine, it was very easy for us to share the work.
5. Not sure if you saw my recent blogs... but yes, the midrange game is immensely important in Live 10. From the start of the year, our #1 goal was to make sure that everything we did in gameplay contributed to an authentic and balanced experience. Personally, I don't have any fun playing a game that encourages people to go to the basket on every possession or shoot 50 3-pointers with Ray Allen to be successful. And one of the biggest accomplishments of Live 10, IMO, is that it rewards you for playing to the strengths of your team and executing solid basketball fundamentals. Hopefully you will agree with me once you have some time with the game yourself. But I can easily say that Live 10 is the best user vs. user (as well as online) basketball experience I've ever played. And you better learn to use the midrange game or your offense is going to struggle. That's a fact.
6. I can't speak for iminurbase because this is his area of expertise. He'll be revealing more details on new game modes and online play in the coming weeks.
Now if the League feature is based on a true NBA style format with options to play between 20-82 games in a full season I'll be extremely happy.
Thanks for the feedbackComment

Re: My Gamescom Demo Video
That can be attributed to the fact that he genuinely likes watching the NBA; A big Warriors fan from what I heard. In the offball movement video, it shows a glimpse of Stephen Jackson running off a screen and he did his quick little steps trademark right before he got the ball; at first I thought it might be a fluke that they caught that, on second thought, it is Mike developing this game.Comment

Re: My Gamescom Demo Video
I'm also curious to see how effective AI/Users are at stopping dribble penetration.
From every single video posted so far both by fans and EA, I cannot get a clear idea of how difficult or easy it is to blow by a defender on higher difficulty. If anyone cares to make that clear, it would be great.Comment

BTW, Mike is a Bulls fan man, wanted to clear that one up, lol
...and from all accounts no you cannot get to the hole at will on higher difficulty levels. They've made that clear several times..even the IGN preview told us that long time agoComment

Re: My Gamescom Demo Video
My bro pointed that out too, Jax taking those tippy toe steps..but I dont know if its his individual cut (as Czar said some were in the game) it might be the real thing

It was made clear you couldn't go in, but from all the videos I never saw anyone be able to consistently break down an inferior defender off the dribble (which would be the case in say a Dwill vs Calderon matchup). To me, it would be rewarding to see the right players get abused on higher difficulties, I haven't seen that yet.
I've witnessed LeBron struggle to get around Paul Pierce in the 2 min gameplay vid (not that PP is inferior), Kobe Bryant's moves having no effectiveness, and so on. The only times the moves worked well was on rookie difficulty in the dribbling video.
I don't think either of us can gauge how well the moves work on allstar until we actually get our hands on this game. For now, it appears to me that its a bit difficult to get around the defender, but Czar said otherwise depending on the matchup.Last edited by HeavenlyTouch; 09-08-2009, 05:57 AM.Comment

Re: My Gamescom Demo Video
They also said it depends on the individual footplants/momentum
The complaints on here was that nobody was being stopped by the defense so they showed the videos on All Star that the defense and help defense was there and you have an issue that the offense isnt just rolling to the hole at will?
This video was just a demo in Germany, not the full version of the game, and they have said to have the right balance, including reviews from brs2305 and Da Wolf and Da Czar.... Im inclined to believe they arent lying at allComment

1. You shouldn't make assumptions based on your overall perspective of the "average gamer"
2. I never stated anywhere that I PERSONALLY wished there was more dribble penetration
3. I wanted a gauge from someone with REAL game experience of how effective dribble penetration is on higher difficulty
4. I stated that I did not see enough evidence of dribble penetration from superior players, and that I wanted to see the appropriate players get broken down off the dribble
For example, CP3 had bigs staying with him on the perimeter from the instances I watched in Mike Wang's homemade video. The evidence is clearly lacking in this department to show indeed how effective it is; I don't have a personal bias on wanting it to be more effective, which you somehow concluded without any evidence.Comment

Re: My Gamescom Demo Video
True enough Nephilim, but there is a difference here to me with EA.
Regardless of whether people say they have to or not including me, I've never seen any of these guys being this open with their game.
They've showed things that would've been to their detrement and gave people time with the game alone for early reviews that could've easily done them in, but they didnt run from their original stance (core gameplay).
What EA did in the past was market, but we saw alot of fluff like Dr J jumping from the FT line on commercials, or Tmac hanging in the air on a dunk in a replay, or the whole freestyle schtick thing...but it was never about gameplay as it is being given out to us this year.
...I understand last year they touted DNA alot, and really that is something that has changed the landscape of basketball games... On the old systems, Inside Drive had player tendencies which was kind of ahead of its time at that time and place in bball gaming history, and this synergy thing seems to be that on another level, nex gen, and what has come to replace player tendencies.
They have all of that data and are able to feed some of it into games now. That's pretty sick IMO.
This year though, I've seen them do nothing short of showing us what they have, so whenif or if you dont buy Live you know what you're getting or missing, its not a mystery on what they really worked on because you can see it, especially if you played Live 09 and were able to stomach a few games of Live 08.
I cant understand anyone coming here and accusing them of gimmicks and complete fluff this year because thats not whats happening at all. Some might not like what is presented to them, but its definitely not garbage being thrown out.
Individual momentums, contextual moves, help defense, authentic shots, hustle plays , etc... if you love the game that has to excite you in some capacity big or small because those are things that we've either never seen or have asked for in the past and would make any basketball game better for usLast edited by 23; 09-08-2009, 11:11 AM.Comment

Dont post this kind of stuff in a demo video thread... talk to Da Czar because he played the full version and can tell you better than anyone. matter of fact he said he was abusing players with D Will (I believe thats right), so ask him in his thread since its a QA
... if you choose not to read or believe him thats your problem not mineComment
