What's the most important thing in a NBA video game?

After seeing lots of guys asking questions about shoes, tatoos and accessories, I've thought it could be nice to break it down.

I've decided on several categories. Gameplay (includes controls, realistic gameplay and realistic stats as well), Atmosphere (includes sounds, commentary, crowds and arena music), Visuals/Performance (How good the graphics look, and how much fps we get), Depth (Includes franchise mode and roster accuracy - rating) and finally Details (It's different then depth, it's about tatoos, accessories etc - kind of an eye candy).

    Here goes my list;

    1-Gameplay %40
    2-Depth %30
    3-Atmosphere %15
    4-Visuals %10
    5-Details %5

The reason Visuals got so low on the list is because new era video games reached a standart on this, There is no single basketball game for years which had bad visuals (including 2k, live, nba inside, march madness and choops series).

Note: I did put this on Live forum, because it's the bball game I'm aiming for. What about you other Live players?

If the game does not play well, nothing else even matters.

for sure. game play should get a decent 30 out of 40 for me to even consider to play the game.

Consider it like a ratings system. Lets break down last year's live using my scaling method.

Gameplay: 30/40 (plays well, but had way too many issues)

Depth: 23/30 (DNA was great, but franchise mode was mediocre at best)

Atmosphere: 12/15 (Arena music and sounds felt pretty good, crowd reactions could have been better, commentary was the best when compared to rival games)

Visuals: 7/10 (nice lightning and arenas looked good as well, but players were to skinny)

Accessories: 3/5 (I don't pay much attention to that, but it got better along with DNA updates)

      Overall: 75/100.

Realistic gameplay and animation gets the top spot for me. 2nd is graphics. 3rd presentation. 4th is dynasty/association mode depth. 5th atmosphere.

Strictly fun factor...I have enough actual basketball miles on my body that I can deal with non perfect rotations and play calling....ive lived that stuff....so its all about fun...

I posted this same question back before they released the Live Demo. I noticed the same thing that the OP did. I learned that we all define "sim" or gameplay differently. Some of us call sim/gameplay the fact that individual players true style is represented in the game or in other words the game actually simulate the players. I never thought of that as sim, as I always thought sim is does the game space, react, run plays, use strategy, and have the same strategic possibilities as there are IRL and that matters more to me than head bands, shoes jersey's or anything else.

Realistic Gameplay and Presentation are the most important to me! Of course features are a close third.....After that I can worry about little things like under arm hair and headbands or the right colored Jordans smh

                              gameplay for me

Of course the game needs to be fun, but everyone's has their own definition of fun. I don't want ultra-sim, but I also want a challenge. Nothing feels special to me if it comes too easy i.e. alley oops, dunks, jumpers

There has to be a good balance, not only playing the computer, but user vs. user also.
